Congrats, Buddur. I did the same thing a couple of months back, a consolidation loan- Debt payments went from about six fifty a month total to less than three. Used the extra cash every month to pay off the loan even more, I'm down to owing almost nothing. When that happens, I can afford either a nicer place to live, maybe even a decent heroin habit. Can't wait!

ME TOO!!!!!!
This will be the last truck payment this month. Then it's mine, all mine!!! Got it paid off almost one year early.

Then only about three years left on the house. Had a low interest 25 yr loan. Will be paid off after 17 years.

Then the oldest starts college, hopefully.

Hey, Chief, you could always put them on the Bitpusher(TM) Plan!

Young Bitpusher: Dad, I start college this fall!

Bitpusher's Dad: Son, good luck!

That's what we've been telling her lately. Bad grades..no money.

If she only had a teacher like gojo. When he was at my house they seemed to really hit it off.

Well, heck, why not the bitpusher plan. So many of the kids nowadays feel like it's their parents obligation to provide them an education.

For them I say, get a full time job and pay your own way. I had to do it and I survived so WHY NOT???

Yah, I'm saving for my kids' college because I don't want them to have it as hard as I did. (It took me 12 years to finish) But they've gotta get good grades and scholarships, otherwise there probably won't be enough for them to finish up. Plus the carrot is, when they get their Bachelor's degree, if there's any money left in the fund, it's theirs!

But the prevailing attitude seems to be that providing for your kids' college education is the same as providing food, clothing and shelter. If you don't, you're being a poor parent. Of course, to that I say, bull#&%!$.

Well, I'm a kid who has parents that are not helping me pay for school (they didn't help before I was a parent myself either) and I am here to tell all of you that you are doing the right thing. The ones who have to pay perform much better in school. It's your own money, so you ain't going to throw it down the crapper. The trustafarians (the ones whose parents pay for every damned penny) are just ridiculous. Do your kids a gigantic favor and don't pay.

Good going Buddur. I paid off my vehicle 2 yrs. ago and I'm almost done w/ the credit cards (big mistake I made there, but I learned). Yeehaw!

Good job, Buddur. Here's a rule of thumb for financial happiness:

Pay no interest on anything that does not appreciate in value.

Buddur
Now that the vehicle is paid off, the makers have implanted a little device in the car so they can make everything start failing. Maybe you should get a tin hat for the car? So now your mechanice will say "you need a new 'johnson rod.' That will cost you $$$$$!

But best of luck on your financial recovery!

Buddur, congrats for sure! Sass and I will have her car paid off this month, nearly a year early. Its a good feeling for sure. Oh yeah my house (30 year fixed) will be paid in 13 more years (only 4 years of payments so far). Its funny how just a little bit of extra money each month adds up.

Paid mine off last spring.

But at the rate I'm putting miles on, I might have to upgrade. 3.5 yrs old and its got 98,000+ mi. SnowDude's is 4.5 yrs old and I think I might have passed him in mileage.

Well...I probably can't remember too many specifics, but...I just think you are way cool.

OK, no, I have to do a little better than that, so let's see...

- Wisdom beyond your years
- Hard worker
- Responsible
- a good mom
- Ambitious
- Bright
- Articulate
- Good sense of priorities
- Care about other people (e.g. teaching teens about being sexually responsible)
- Great sense for what kind of assistance should be expected from others
- Not driven by peer pressure

It just seems like you are making lots of good decisions about your life.

My earlier comment was triggered specifically by your acknowlegement in this thread that it is not healthy to have too much handed to you, that you recognize the value of working for what you get.

I know about internet stalkers. I had one show up at my house. Don't break their wrist on your front porch. They won't go away until after the cops show up. Then you go away, with the cops.

Good luck.

Well, after 8 years of driving a mac-daddy van I've decided it's time to move on. So to make a long story short...

I am now the proud owner of a NEW (my 1st new vehicle) steel-gray colored Subaru Forrester.

Back to making payments...
