Tent Advise, Please!
Looking for a good quality solo tent. Getting back into backpacking after 10 years, and the 2 person Eureka is just too heavy now that she has decided not to go with me!... Need advise on a good light weight,1 person 3 season tent, with a vestibule. I trust users comments over the manufactures claims!!!

I bought a used Black Diamond Megamid.

It has no floor or bug netting.

It weighs a hair over three pounds with pole and stakes. It has a 9 X 9 footprint. It is great in the rain.

Do you want it free-standing or not?

Marmot Nutshell if you like a mesh ceiling.

Free standing does not necessarily equal light weight.

I have the REI Solo lite and have seen several variations of it from other manufacturers. It's the two hoop design but not free standing and weights just over 3 lbs. I love it and it has a HUGE vestibule. I used the vestibule to stash all my gear and to cook supper when it rained 3 nights in a row in Montana.

Good Luck.

This is a hard one. Finding a lightweight single person, 3 season, free standing tent with a vestibule when for only a few ounces more, you could be into a two person tent.

While there are a few out there, I would recommend the Wechsel Pathfinder Solo tent. I saw one of these in action last year. It's reasonably light, good quality, very weatherproof, and attractive looking tent.

not freestanding, but
i have the canyonlands from the north face. bout 3.5# i think without the compression stuff sack that it comes in. nice tent, small vestibule but you can rig it up like a porch, even in the rain, just be careful how you do it.
i also have the id silshelter. no mesh or floor but only 16 oz. sets up on trekking poles. awesome, can sleep 2 with gear i think, haven't done it yet but plenty of room in there. not good for summer though, but i did look into getting some kind of bug netting, few things out there that would work for around 5-8 extra oz. you could use a space blanket for the floor also for 6-8 oz. making the whole thing with stakes around 2#.
how much are you lookin to spend? i've been in all kinds of tents. whenever someone has one i haven't gotten to check out i raid their pad to see what's up.
by the way, i used to carry a 2 person eureka, #&%!$ that.

i'm looking at either the eurika bevy, or a brazilian hammock. the eurika is around 2#8oz, not freestanding.i know there's WAY better tents out there, but this one fits my budget for now.

.......hammock; it has a bug net & i will get a tarp for rainy times, under which i could cook. no need for a ground cloth. there's lots of trees where i usually hike. can't remember the weight but it's very light & is tiny in it's stuff sack.

I CAN't DECIDE! ! !!

If you are loaded and price is not a big concern get the Titanium Zoid it's not free-standing - but still a sweet tent. Another option is the Sierra Designs Ultra Light Year CD . Again - not free-standing, but that is tough to find in a good, light one person tent.

I currently use the Coleman Exponenet Inyo 2. Gives me a little more space than the 1 person tents.

Anything free-standing will go 5lbs+. The Marmot Nutshell or Moss Outland, are solid one-person shelters. I saw the Nutshell go on ebay last week for $140.oo.
I use the Sierra Designs "Light Year" as my 3 season choice, but if I find a "Nutshell" at a good price, I'll get one.
Oh ya, the Moss is now MSR "Sentinal"

DONT buy the zoid!!

My opinion but the rain fly doesnt cover the entire tent floor, possibly causing a wet night!!!!!

Im looking at jerbears Marmot Eclipse or the nut shell!
