I am planning a trip to the Roan Highlands area about the 3rd week of September. I was wondering if there would be any TTer in the area or interested in that trip. I was thinking of staying a the Laurel Creek Lodge and getting them to shuttle me south about 40-50 miles. Walk back north at about 10-12 miles a day. Take a rest day then may be a day or two from the north down to see Laurel Falls. Anybody interested?

Sorry, it's on the Appalachian Trail north of the GSMNP. It's the area around Erwin Tn.

There was some old threads a while back. Arclite had some cool pictures of the place. Towndawg has a trip report about the place on his website.

So Tex I hear your a EMT or Paramedic now? My oldest son starts EMT training on Thursday, he is really excited.

Yup, passed the state test last month and I start Paramedic School next Spring.

Your son will have a blast..let me know if he needs any information, I have some cool websites for EMS related stuff.

I'm studying for the National Registry Test now and hear it's tough. If you get that certification, it's recognized in something like 45 to 48 states at the EMT level and you can move and still be certified in the other states to without having to re-test or re-certify. Tell your son to get it too if he ever plans to leave Florida.

Wish him luck for me!!

So much to respond to here...

Flatlander - As you know I have been eyeing a fall AT trip. I've been considering the "Old Farts on the AT in October" trip. I don't think I can work in the Septmeber trip as well. I'll catch you in Myakka, Big Cypress or Ocala this winter though.

Tex - is this a career change or a career augmentation? Sure you can save my life - but I'd rather have the Snickers!

HPM - get your priorities in order man! Congrats - you're gonna love this. How is the "gear" list (crib, diaper bag, etc.) coming along?

They are Coop, they are.
Gear is coming along fine. Just waiting for the guest of honor to arrive to get the festivities started.

the flatlander - Have a good hike on the AT. Hope to see you again at an ECT ONF-2.

Big Coop - I though the "Old Farts on the AT in October" was for members of the wrinkle club. You are nowhere near qualifying. Hope to see you again at an ECT ONF-2, too.

[Hey, two twos in a row. Reminds me of when someone asked the ticket seller at the movie theater, "What time's the cartoon?" The reply, "2 2 2 2 2 2.*

Tired Old Farts is a state of mind, not a number. Anybody is welcome to go, regardless of age, but keep in mind that it's a laid-back, low mileage trip, not a greyhound race.

LOL

Four days of seven-plus miles is not a laid-back, low mileage journey for this old fart(my usual evening state of mind and actions!).

Have z great hike.
