“Heading out to Hal Scott Preserve just east of Oralndo for a dayhike tomorrow. I'm going to give the new G4 a test run. I've never been out there before but I think tango recommended it. Mini-trip report to come...” 9:33:26 PM 8/17/02 “It's nice there. I work just down the road from there. Have a good time.” 10:47:16 PM 8/17/02 “watch out for mosquitoes! Especially Asian Tigers.” 10:48:55 PM 8/17/02 “Yeah - I might OD on Deet.” 1:28:59 AM 8/18/02 “Hit the trail at 8:00. The trail was immediately wet, so I gave up keeping my feet dry early on. It has been raining quite a bit here lately and the water has no where to go - it just sits on the surface. I have experienced the same conditions in Tosohatchee and Blue Springs. Just trudge right on through the black water - it never got above my knees though. Hiked the 4.2 mnile blue blazed loop. The "Curry Ford" on the Econ river was far too wide to cross alone. They say you shouldn't try it in rainy season. I'll have to wait to see the homesteads on the other side another time. Saw a wild pig/boar. Saw lots of bugs. Humid and hot. Great Moment: Halfway point break. Standing in the shadow of a tall pine eating my breakfast bar. The breeze kicks up and cools me off - and I hear the wind move through the pine needles.” 4:19:59 PM 8/18/02
