Up and Down and Down and UP “We decided to dayhike up Vivian Creek to San Gorgonio 11,502'. Then after reaching the summit we had a quick lunch and hiked to the Dollar Lake Saddle. From there we traveled down to Momyer Trail to the Mill Creek Wash Canyon. The trip was pretty good until we hit Momyer trail. This trail which is listed as a pack trail on the older maps. Has the longest switchbacks I have ever seen. Plus we would go a mile and descend 200 feet, then the trail would take a turn and go back up 198 feet. We crossed camps like Saxton, Dobbs, Algers on the way. What a tough trail! Although it was only a 19 mile dayhike. It certainly was one of the more demanding one I have been on. For those of you who are considering this trai. There is 3 streams. One at each camp. And plnety of water. You can take Momyer trail which starts at lower Forest Falls and hike 12 miles to the San Gorgonio Summit. Then 7 miles down Vivian for a shuttle. We did it the opposite way.” 9:54:56 AM 8/19/02 “"ONLY" a 19-mile dayhike?? sheesh, somebody would've been carrying me by the end of that. some of you people here are unreal! :-)” 10:02:09 AM 8/19/02 WLD... “After doing Whitney...that should have been a piece of cake! 8)” 1:14:38 PM 8/19/02 “Whitney is an easy hike compared to Momyer.... My legs still feel like rubber.” 5:30:00 PM 8/19/02
