Perhaps I wasn't clear in my posting on the intent of the post. I am not offended by the thread, I am genuinely curious why it's considered ok--why Catholics aren't considered taboo to joke about, but other religions are.

Catholics comprise about 30% of our population - it is the largest denomination of the largest religion in America. In short - we're the majority.

I've come to the conclusion that in America, majorities are fair game for a host of otherwise indefensible acts and jabs.

For example:
Remember the dragging death of the minority guy in Jasper, Texas? Of course... who could NOT remember that horrendous act? Well, about a year ago, in that same town, a majority guy was deliberately ran over by a carload of minority guys - a genuine "hate" crime, but nothing ever came of it (in the national spotlight, anyway).

Remember John Rocker? Majority guy slammin' minorities. HUGE national stink! Then, just last weekend, a minority NYC councilman stands on the D.C. Mall, before a national audience, and proclaimed that he wanted to "slap the next white person I see". Hmp.”

Gojo, I never thought of Catholics as being a majority (which shows a little bit o' my own bias, since I tended to lump all Protestants together for some reason)--that's a valid arguement.

Bacpac--though I am proud of the fact that I finally found something to agree with you on (actually two things, I think all of this is funny too), I am not too sure Catholics=White Conservatives...at least not out here in CA. Although, I can certainly see how that is the image the church portrays.

Ped-as for being an equal opportunity bigot (joking), again, that's not really the concern of my post. I was more curious why the "censors" of the board (or the outspoken "I'm offended by all this" contingent) didn't get their hackles raised by this thread when other joke threads about religion/race/sexuality/etc. get quashed.
