This is the most radical hike we've ever done!
Backpacked Mosquito Flats(10,300') to Mills Lake (11,600')on Saturday. Dayhiked to Mt Abbot (13,704') on Sunday in 9 hrs 40 min, which included 40 minutes at the top. Packed up, and was at the trailhead by 7:15pm.

This is the toughest I've ever done! 4 out of 7 made the summit.
All of us had close calls on this trip. Two slid on the glacier but
was able to stop, I had big boulders sliding towards me (bruised my rib dodging it the first time, 2nd time caused a mini-rock slide), and our leader's pack got
caught while he was on a ledge. Only 15 entries in the register
this year! Can't wait to do Ritter in a few weeks!

Ok. Been hittin the site a while, seen the website and the pix. Gotta ask one Q:Does Snow Nymph work? Is she some sort of heiress? And why doesn't she have a fan club yet? Seriously, this person rocks. Do people really live like this? Is she a cyber hiker created by Bacpacker.com?

Your photos never cease to impress me Snowy. Great stuff! Granted, the areas you hike in are so scenic it would be hard to take a bad photo, but your compositions are excellent. Crampons in August... how cool is that!

ps... kudos on being the featured gallery for the Bearikade site.

I didn't mean to spend the last hour looking at SN and SD's photographs but damn.....once you start you can't have just one!

You guys amaze me. Great composition and the quality gets better and better. Tell us, what camera(s), len(s), film, A6 developer?

PS: I'm looking forward to next weekend's adventure! What do have in store for us?

I haven't met Snow Dude yet but I can vouch for Snow Nymph she's real all right...met her on the Whitney Dayhike ....At the end of our 22 mile hike she looked like she could do it all over again...no problemo!

She works...but I think she plays twice as hard as she works! Is that about right Snow Dude?

Ask around ...I'm pretty sure she has a fan club :)

Pennsy...nice photography for someone with hair ....eh?

Throwing down the gauntlet....
Snow Nymph, Snow Dude and the Sierras make for some awesome backpacking adventures. The obvious question is: Why aren't more TTers planning a Sierra hike in their future so they can see some of these lovely panoramas themselves??? Get some altitude!!

Snow Nymph can speak for herself, but she works and lives quite a distance from the trailheads. That makes her adventures even more amazing to me.

(I think I'm tense because I didn't get a Sierra hike in this year)

You and me both. I can't stand the fact that I haven't been able to see the Sierras this year. Looking at SN&SD's pictures really rubs salt into the wound too!

I just ran into Snow Nymph's boss's boss and he confirmed that she does in fact work. He said her boss raves about her! Must be how she gets away with month long vacations.

The secret to her success is never sleeping.

WindWalker - Sounds great. One place i have wanted to go is to start at South Lake and go up for a couple of days of fishing at the lakes up above there. I would be open to something in the Southern Sierra with an easy pass and some fishing. The hike I missed with Mel in the July was to Cottonwood Lakes.

Not sure when I could go...might have to wait until next summer. I already have four weekends committed in Aug - Oct. for my forest service patrols in the San Gorgonio Wilderness.

Hodge/Sol: The drive back and forth is rest for me. SnowDude is taking this weekend off, but not me. Next weeks adventure: I have to retrieve the stuff I lost 2 weekends ago. My name is on it, and I don't want anyone finding my "litter". Plus my camera didn't work, so thats another reason to go back. The pics I took would have been great, had the camera worked.

Sol/Tango: This weekend my Canon Rebel 2000 (28-80mm lens) is inthe shop. Last weekend it quit working for awhile, then started again. I bought the 5 year warranty so "if they can't fix it they'll replace it!" They didn't know they were talking to Snow Nymph!

So this weekend I used my backup camera, Canon Rebel EOS (35-80 mm lens). The bottom of the body has a crack, but it still works.

SnowDude uses a Sony PC 5 Digital (7 oz). He carries two 128 mb memory sticks and 3 battery packs, depending on how long the trip is, and how much zooming he'll do.

"Ritter..eh..Thats a fairly technical climb isn't it...Sounds kinda risky..Good luck though . . . wsdavies"
That's what we heard about Abbot. Looking at the description, it should be a little easier than Abbot

"ps... kudos on being the featured gallery for the Bearikade site. . . . Pennsy"
Pretty cool, huh?

I work 9-6 M-F, at the same company for 23 years. The weekends are mine, all mine! No fan club, but sometimes people recognize me on the trail. While descending Whitney a few years ago, I heard a female voice on the trail yelling "You're Snow Nymph!!!" Yes, People think I'm nuts, doing this every weekend. My boss still shakes his head on Monday mornings if I'm stiff, sore, limping. . . .

"There is a Mt. Abbot!!!! Kewl beans!!! . . . Briar Rabbit"
Thought about you up there! Knew you'd get a kick out of it!

"we don't want to see you on the news . . . ldhiker"
The guys at work always tell me that!

Cmon, guys! Lets go hiking!!! We can do a mini-Sierrapalooza

Snowdude before you used your digital what kind of camera did you use? I bought the newer model of the Olympus c-700 took it out west and didn't like the disconnection I felt looking through the viewfinder. Did you like the digi. the first time you used it? (sorry about thread degeneration.)

Thanks

Phil...do you have a particular weekend in mind? Did you run it by Mrs Phil yet? What did she say???

Southern Sierra? How far North are you willing to travel? Lone Pine, Big Pine, Bishop??? How many miles do you want to hike? Inquiring minds want to know!

Tango - I wasn't taking a camera before I got the digital. Snow Nymph took all the pictures.

I'm happy with the digital (Sony P5), though I have the same problem with my viewfinder in that it doesn't accurately reflect the exact framing of the picture, but its usually too bright to use the screen. I've learned how to adjust the shot based on what I see in the viewfinder.

We hiked Clear Creek to the petroglyphs and beyond. Did a loop that went up and around a mtn, then finished with Angel's Landing. Hiked the Narrows (my Nikon 6006 took a dive, the end). Bryce, Zion, Sand Dunes (forget the name, sand was pink). I have a Utah album on the webpage somewhere.

Exhilirating trip. You've grown with this one, I can tell. Your report prompted my read through Secor's account of Abbot.

Class 4 with out protection? My fear of heights might've required that. Getting up and around that notch from the North Couloir looked airy. Things can get sideways pretty easily.

Snow Nymph

All those hikes are down south from me. I've heard great things about going down south. I saw a show on OLN about Angels Landing pretty nice. All my hikes/backpacks are up north in the Wasatch Mountain range and the High Unitas. If your ever up this way let me know. I belong to a mountain club and we do things all year round. We have probably some of the best dayhikes in the US and their only about 20 minutes from SLC. The dayhikes range from NTDs to EXTs. We have a few 11s up here with an MSD rating and with exposure. Getting to the High Unitas takes about 2 hrs though, but alot of 12s and a few 13s. In the High Unitas we have alot of lakes, seems about every 2 miles or so.
