Hate not having wood
Anyone carry firewood in the trunk of their car? I'm thinking about it after going without a fire a couple times this year.

Does it bump around too much?

My father and I would bring wood on our car camping trips when I was younger. We never had any problems. If you're worried about it moving, tie it all together. It shouldn't roll around then.

A camp fire isn't LNT, but it is sure nice sometimes.

No. Don't ever put wood in the trunk of your car. I did once, and when I got home, I got a little lazy and decided to back the car through my living room wall and just light the wood while it was still in the trunk. Turns out I had the wrong house on top of all that.

What kind of question is this? It's always been my understanding that the trunk of a car is used to put things in so you can take them places- Not people though, believe it or not, that's what the seats in your car are for, in case that was going to be your next question.

I don't have a trunk, but have brought firewood to camp many times. No problem, never thought about it.
In my experience car camping, there's too much other stuff in the car for the wood to roll around.

duh, troll...
why do I always assume these questions are just incredibly naive?

Don't lose your faith in how dumb people can really be, twig- some people out there really are expecting some excellent advice on things like how the trunk of their car works. Sad, but true.

I would figure the wood may have bugs living in it then they would get into the car!

What will it sound like to others?
Twigeater I don't have a lot of stuff in the trunk and am worried what it will sound like to passengers. Don't want to take a girl out on a first date and have her think there's a dead body back there or something.

I get laughed at
i carry camping gear in my trunk all the time, the firewood never comes out, i have a chair and even a sleeping bag, along with playing cards, matches, a cribbage board, frisbee and a football, heck it's a car... you don't have to carry it on your back, there's room, so why not, it's almost like extra storage space, and it's nice to have the extra stuff with.

thank you simer!
No kiddin' - I had two bundles of firewood on the floor of the passenger seat until I used it. Seems normal to me. My bike helmet and gloves live under the driver's seat.

I agree deathmarch, but if you've got a big one (truck, that is) please have a step up in case she's wearing a skirt.

...and if you put one of those fisheye mirrors on the passenger side, sometimes you can catch a glim....

Never mind.

I didn't say that.

I carry a chainsaw in my truck. If I need wood I cut it. I usually need to start a fire early, early in the morning.

Antenna Boy
Why would a chick be concerned about "a dead body in the trunk" while having to put up with the deadwood in the driver's seat?

If you take a girl out, take the wood out of the trunk! Duh!

I put firewood in the back of my Dodge Raider one time. Turns out the firewood had a pregnant mouse in it. We used all the firewood and the next day when I returned home I heard something sqeaking in the back. I pulled up the snapdown carpet and found mama mouse and eight babies. The cat enjoyed all nine lives.

When I bought my car, the idiot who had it before me had put a tire in the trunk- I mean, come on, tires go on the wheels, right? Then I tried to find a fifth wheel, since I already had four tires on all the wheels I could see, and after a couple of hours, I noticed that the tire from the trunk was smaller than the others. What a moron! He bought the wrong sized tire for a wheel he didn't even have!
