Bill
Remember on these group outings it's very important not to
forget your clipboard...another valuable lesson learned from the Sierra Club LOL!

Don't forget your beanie... it's gonna be a little chilly!

Ditto CMB :-(

But it looks like I might be able to squeeze in a quick overnighter in Nov. if the weather is OK....

I think I will leave the clipboards for the Sierra Club hikers to carry. :)
I will be bringing a hat of some sort...

Where are you, whingding0? It has definately gotten here in the Sacramento Valley but it doesn't look much like rain any time soon.

Got a message from Mel. Maybe some of you got it also. She has offered her place to hang out, party, and stay overnight Friday before hiking out of Lake Sabrina. She lives just past Tom's Place. It would be a little drive to the trailhead on Saturday morning, but not bad. Anyone interested?

I would love to meet Mel...but it might be really late when I get there. On the last trip in that area we didn't get to South Lake til 1:30 AM and Snow Nymph rolled in at 3:30 AM. I'm planning on leaving quite a bit earlier this time though. How many miles to Mels place from Bishop?
Wind Walker

Mel's is about 25 miles past Bishop on 395. It would be about a 45 minute drive to the trailhead on Saturday morning.

Yeah, but you could eat breakfast at Jack's in Bishop.

Nav - are you interested in carpooling up there, visiting Mel and having breakfast at Jacks (or Tom's Place...either one)?

If you drive up I can split the gas. I may be coming out on Sunday with someone else.

FYI
Obi isn't going.

Naviguesser is picking me up on Friday, leaving LA in early afternoon. We will stay the night at Mel's. Then Jacks Restaurant in Bishop for breakfast and hit the trailhead around 9 to meet up with everyone.

Any others interested in crashing at Mel's?

Hope the weather holds out!

I'll be driving til late Friday night. I'll be ready to start at 9am. Will wait til 10 if I know there will be straglers. So let me know if you'll be late. I can leave a copy of the confirmation for you.

If I know we're leaving later, I can drive to Bishop for a mocha (or even meet Navi & Phil for breakfast?) What time are you going to Jacks?
Snow Nymph

I'm thinking of TRYING to get away from Mel's a little after 6:00am (with mel that's more likely 6:30). Then breakfast at Jack's at 7:00? Then trailhead at 9:00? Or...

Would love to breakfast with you and any others.

Snow, if you're thinking of coming back to Bishop for breakfast, have you thought of staying at Brown's Town, just south of Bishop? Camp in a park and showers. Reasonable rates.

I'm going to leave home (250 miles south of Bishop (4 hours)) very early on Saturday, so if others are meeting in Bishop for breakfast at Jack's I could do that depending on what time you meet.

Who is staying at Mel's and what time do you plan on getting there? I'm coming in from Yosemite so I gather I'll be passing by it. I've never been there so if I decide to stop in, I'll need directions.

I have to sleep in altitude to acclimatize. As it is, I've haven't been high for two weeks (Joshua Tree 2 wks ago, and AZ last weekend). I hope it doesn't bother me. I'll try to sleep at 9K-10K. The drive doesn't bother me. I'll try to meet for breakfast at 7.

Phil or Snowy ...could you e-mail me directions to Mel's place.
Wind Walker

Mel's place is at over 6000 feet.

Dixon & Aleksandra are coming to Mel's also, but very late. Mel lives about 200 yards from one of the Hwy 395 exits near Lake Crowley. I can email directions later.

I know I really won't need a topo map, but I like them anyway. My TOPO! CD doesn't cover this weekend's location. Could someone e-mail me the JPG map to my work address?

Replace the (at) with @ and take out the spaces...

Slight change of plans - my friend Olive Oyl (say hi to Olive Oyl, everyone. She has been lurking for a while) convinced me of the wisdom of taking our time getting there on Friday and getting a little used to altitude and hiking in on Saturday morning. We will still be hiking out on Monday. I'm afraid that that might mess up WLD a little - as I recall he was the only other one left who was planning to hike in on Friday. Anyway, we will probably get to the campground on Friday PM. Look for me in my silver Forester with the little red cattledog.

Wind Walker - I suspect there are several permits floating around. The more the merrier.

I sent a E to WLD to check this afternoon. As far as I know, there's one more opening. He's collecting $$, so we need to hear from him for the final count.
