mountainmaster2003, most seafood must be alive when ya cook it. As far as clams from a red tide area - paralytic shellfish poisoning in high doses will kill you. I've never heard of anyone getting sick from it, or dying from it for that matter - other than the mice that are injected with it. I doubt a comercial dealer would be digging in closed flats, also it's extremely unlikely a clam shack would be serving PSP contaminated clams.

I've noticed that you flatlanders don't clean your lobster quite like we do. We're taught that if you eat the "butt" or a$$hole, you will die, so we pull it out of the tail. I guess you really won't die, since everyone I talked with who is not from Maine is still alive after eating many a$$holes, so it must be ok. Maineiacs also eat the liver, the meat behind the eyes and in the ribs, and the roe (the best!). I think I'm gonna try a lobster pizza after work tomorrow. yum!”
