I bought a new tent and the only thing I don't like about it is that it's very saggy near the botton of the tent.
Everything else is pretty taunt. But, it's very loose on the bottom. So my question here is,
is there a way to make it tighter?

We are a load of help, aren't we?

Maple Leaf, when you say sagging at the bottom, do you mean the sides are sagging down? Or that the floor of the tent isn't tight?

<English pedant mode on>
taunt - To reproach in a mocking, insulting, or contemptuous manner, ridicule.

taut - Pulled or drawn tight; not slack.

<English pedant mode off>

Are you pulling it taut to stake it at the corners?

The walls are sagging in? are these the side walls or all of them? Hows the floor? Are you pitching it correctly? Are you pulling the stakes as far apart from one another so the floor is good and tight. Some tents will have a connection from the tent wall to rainfly and then on to a 'fly' stake to keep the lower part of the tent wall from sagging in. I'm sure there are many that have plenty of solid advice to give about your saggin walls.

Can you say CHEAP?

I bought this tent just to use for the summer months.
It's a

Knollwood Bivy Shelter tent

It sags at the bottom of the body of the tent.
I have it staked out as far as it can go and it still sages. I guess this is whats happens when to buy cheap.

Good point L...

May be the routine to pitch the tent is the problem...I took to trying to shortcut the procedures for setting up my North Face VE-25 but had similar problems...When I went back and read the directions, and followed then to the letter, the problems disappeared...turned out that staking out the bottom BEFORE inserting the poles was a no-no. I inserted the poles and THEN staked out the tent floor...no more problems...Go Figure...

Re-readthe instructions...then try again...

Are there extra tie-outs that they didn't provide lines or stakes for? Even the expensive tents will short you on stakes sometimes. My Sierra Designs Clip Flashlight has about a dozen guy-out points, but only came with 8 stakes.

Aye! There's the rub! What flavor of tent might it be?

That moldy old SD Lookout of mine tightens up and goes slack because of temp and humidity variations to the point that I had to add loops of shock-cord to the guylines. Now I can tune it to Mountain Modal or an open G.

Sorry about that other... it was just Too Damn Easy, LOL

If that IS the tent she is talking 'bout, I agree with Slut. I bought one of those as a cheap first tent. I got a tear in it the first time I used it and the main pole snapped on me the second time I used it. There is really no way to make it "go". It's not a very good tent, there's no good way of getting around your problem.

NOT

thank you stovestomper, i may have to take you up on your offer if it rains. sorry guys but money is not what I have alot of. Im trying to save $ to buy a house. Damn those kids for wanting fresh air and there own room and a backyard to play in.
So thats why I went with this cheap thing even when you all said DON'T DO IT.
I should have listen to you all :(
So far ive been lucky with no rain. I have a big tarp that I can put over it. But I think i'll try the bra thing cause that might work.
When I did put it up I did insert the poles first, so maybe when I go camping this weekend I will try to stake it first.

A couple of points about cheap tents, ML:

1. if you can sew, you can add extra stake-out loops (be sure to seam seal all the stiches). This could help with your tent's sagging problem.
2. Use some waterproofer on the rainfly. Seal all the seams on the rainfly as well.
3. Be gentle with it, and pitch it in somewhat sheltered areas like you would a tarp.

My contention is the same as it has always been: cheap gear is fine. Know its limitations and adjust accordingly.

Gear Slut, the way I see it, you touting high-end gear in such an obnoxious manner means you lack the creativity to use anything but top of the line gear.

In other words, if your gear fails, you fail, so you do your absolute best to make sure it doesn't.

You seem like a parody of a backpacker to me.
