Hey, I'm still a maybe on this trip and I have changed my status on the trip page. My ex "says" he is going away that week, but I have a feeling his plans will not materialize and I'll still get to come. I might not know til 2 weeks before.

Pepperdog, did you say that Sacramento a/p was easier/more convenient for you? I'll start looking at fares just to get an idea of what routes are available.

Check your email woman!

Tx - tell the ex that he will have to change his plans!!! Sacto airport is 20 minutes from my home. If you want to ride with the Northern Gang come to Sac. If you would save tons of money to fly into SF or Oakland we might be able to negotiate but I hate to drive down there. You also might save money flying into So Cal and riding up with those yahoos. Scout it out.

Tex, if you come I've got a hiking pole for you to use.

There are 2 or 3 campgrounds on the way to the trailhead.
Might be hard to get a camp site that close to the "weekend".

Oh. Bear can! 8^D
If you want to buy one look at the Bearicade. It cost alot more, but it's alot lighter. Snownymph can give you the web site.

Trekkngirl, I believe Yosemite rangers rent them out for only $3 a day, ain't bad at all. Anyone know if SeKi rangers do the same?? That'd be the way to go if you don't find a purchase in time for the trip, or wanna save up for one'a those hi-dolla Bearicades.

Campgrounds? Do you need reservations?
ldhiker

You can only get reservations at Lodgepole and Dorst, which are not in the Mineral King area. The MK ones are first come, first serve.

I believe there will be lots of snoring coming from vehicles parked at or near the trailhead the night before the trip starts.

Over the last couple of years Yosemite would rent bear canisters for $3 for the length of the trip. $3 for a two-weeks is pretty nice.

Did it change to per day this year?

I plan on attending this event. Since I am going to purchase a Bariccade. I can probaly bring my Garcia along if anyone needs to use it. But they will have to be on the same trip as I am. Since a few weeks after this trip I am on the JMT. And will need to get it to my resupply people before hand.

Thanx for update tango. Sorry Rockman, I was informed that it was $3, and wrongly assumed it was that per day. Or I was misinformed from the get-go, dunno.

How cheaply can ya get the Bearicade now?? $250 is a wee high for me.

WLD - Great that you are going on the 7 day trip!! Bring along any extra bear cannisters to see if anyone else needs one. I will start working on Olive Oyl to see if I can get her to come along but I think she is thinking of taking a long trip east at that time.

How much time to drive to the trailhead?
If we spend the night of 7/2 in Fresno and get up early, would that work okay? How much time does it actually take to get to the trailhead if you're a cautious driver?

Visalia is closer and has a few ok motels. 3 Rivers is even closer and has a nice Best Western (stayed there after my last trip, the hot tub was great!).
I allow 1 1/2 to 2 hours from Visalia, just so there's no reason to hurry.

You might remember Kent although he doesn't post or lurk here. He asked me to put him on the seven day list so I'll go on now to trips and add him.
