We just looked at airfares to SF and it is only $243 per person, round trip from Philly to SF! (That was based on Saturday to Saturday travel.)”

I'm not familiar with the Western Sierras and their permit system (I don't go unless someone else organizes it - I ALWAYS get lost on that side). Bring this thread to the top next week and someone will answer. I'll be leaving in the next 1/2 hr or so for the Sierras.”

“I think it's a 5 day trip. One $10 permit covers 15 people. The permit can't be ordered until next March. The quota on the trailhead is 25.

“The good airfare I saw was for Sat/Sat travel (the 5th and the 12th) to SanFran.

Someone mentioned this earlier in the thread: for many of us easterners, this is a once-in-a-lifetime trip to the Sierras. We'd love to do 6 good days of hiking and see as much as possible.

My son is in outstanding physical condition for hiking, and I can hold my own, I think. So in your planning, don't skimp on the good stuff!”

“Starting on the 5th of July (SAT) would give everyone a chance to make it to the trailhead.
This will be a great trip!!”

“The 5th would be good for some, but others might want to start on the 4th due to a limit on the amount of vacation time they can use. Either the 4th or 5th will work for me.”

“It depends on what time of day the hike begins. If it is in the morning, the 4th would definitely not work for some of us flying in from the other coast.”

“I could take the 3rd & 4th off, to get down there, for the 5th, but that would be about the earliest. I plan to drive.”

“No Pep, I love flying, too. But, I've never actually done that entire coast drive thing. I think it would be a great road trip. Especially if I can connect with a few TTers, along the way.

“If there are more than twenty five TTers, we could easily go in on two different days, say the 4th and 5th of July, and then the folks who come in on the 5th could meet up with everyone at a prepicked location.
