Im a @ss!!!!
I was going to go to the Red River Gorge, but at the last moment(putting the gear in the car) I decided not to!

I had one of those feelings when you know you shouldnt go.

I dont know if its the beer idea of Josh's or the fact that we couldnt leave until 8:30pm and then hike to where his friends are to drink beer. Which I DONT want to ! Dont forget about the insane dog he has!!!!!! He wanted to start our trek tommorrow morning but.......

Mostly its the bad feeling and Ive been on vacation for two months........... Most of all Ill be gone to the Buffalo River all weekend and Ill mis the family!! I feel bad going on all these trips with out them, so Im staying to do the family thing!

owell Im a @ss!

Maybe and perhaps your feelings were a precognition that you would screw up Josh's trip the way you screwed up the trip for several of your other "friends".

I will meditate on this and report back when I have come to a realization of your worth.

Bailing on a friend you promised to go with without a good excuse is the only turn-off I have for backpacking buddies. If your premonitions have been accurate in the past, like picking lottery numbers or the stock market, then you have a good excuse. If you did not promise you would go for sure, then everyone has to "hike their own hike". The question that comes to mind, would your wife be happier if you went backpacking or if you stayed home?

Nice Going!
I use to hike with a dood that would back out of trips, at first he said he'd go, but sure enough he'd change his mind...I gave up on even inviting him. It was OK till it got to be a trend, and the more the "at the last minute" the more it would pizz me off.

Bad you!

The "feelings" that Prowler has are almost always true. Its kinda like womens intuition, I had kinda a bad one about this trip too for some reason..I told him to NEVER ignore that feeling...

Last time I got it really bad when he was on a trip It just came on so strong all of the sudden when he was gone. I worried sick untill he got back..come to find out that he had almost fallen off the side of a trail, and caught himself by a thin branch.

Not saying that or like it was going to happen, but you get bad feelings for a reason, and if you dont listen to them, your crazy!!

Plus, Prowler NEVER backs out
he always does trips he says hese going to do..the kids were getting sick too, and hese going to be gone next weekend on a trip they cant go on.......

Okay, Im done, Im just tired of everyone making him out to be bad, because he is not :)

Your devotion to you family is comendable however your commitment to you word needs a little work. The jury is out on this one. I suspect that you'll learn to be a little less impulsive with age and wisdom.

I think I agree with Gear Slut. It's great to choose family over backpacking. I didn't backpack at all when I first had kids, I waited until my kids were old enough to come with me. Of course choosing family over backpacking and beer is better when you do it before agreeing to come on a trip and not at the last minute.

Still - I can't say Prowler made the wrong choice in cancelling. I'm assuming that Prowler had a chance to let Josh know he couldn't make it.

I'd say its really between Josh and Prowler and most of it is, but here I am posting and here is this thread that Prowler started.

I think it is a little strange that prowler needed to unburden his sole (if that is indeed the reason he started this thread) and even stranger that people debate if he did the right thing or not.

Give prowler his own reality TV show!

I agree with you dude!I could not go backpacking this weekend becuase of work which sucks but sometimes we have to do things that we don't want to do.

As for the family thing you and Kym have a great one and more power to you for being there with them insted of going backpacking.

You and Kym Rock in my book so I think you did the right thing.

prowler IS a ass
i got beer since we were getting there late and not walking anywhere. i did not go on this trip to drink beer. i went to hike. he knows that, i think it's just an excuse to make it ok that he bailed on me after i was at his house for an hour ready to go. i had a good trip anyway, no hard feelings.

anyway
2 Scoops and i got down to the gorge friday night and shuttled the cars to where they needed to be and went to meet a few high school buddies of mine a little ways off the road. we hung out for the night and got up and walked back to the car.
our parking lot was only a couple minutes away but we passed it up and went through Nada Tunnel to get some water from a little spring on the side of the road. we went back to the parking lot and 2 scoops had left his leki at the water spot. knowing the feeling, i took him back down to get it. it was like 11:30 before i took my first step on the trail, which was pretty brutal.
the trail went up the gorge and back down to the bottom 4 or 5 times with very few flats in between. the going was slow at first, i just couldn't get into my groove and 2 scoops takes his time anyway. he likes to take rest stops every 20 steps sometimes. the second last uphill of the day was an asskicker, it was like straight up for a half a mile or so.
i had just started to fall into my pace finally and 2 scoops wants to end the day early, no way buddy. he said he didn't know if he can do the last uphill section. i left him knowing he would follow and thank me later.
we switched trails at a parking lot and descended into Clifty Wilderness to camp on Swift Camp Creek. i ate and sat around for a while waiting for my dog to dry off. it was a pretty early night. 2 scoops was in a horrible mood and i was just wantin to go to bed.
today's hike was really rough. not as much ups and downs as yesterday, more rolling but the terrain was very rugged. huge slippery rocks adn tree roots and everything. most of it felt like a game trail. it took a lot longer than i expected because the going was so slow.
i had to leave 2 scoops in the dust today. that boy was just walking too damn slow for me. i got to his car about an hour maybe a little more before he did, just as it started raining. i sat in the stinky bathroom with my pack propping the door open waiting for him. correction, stood in the stinky bathroom, thinking he'd be along any minute. he did not come along nearly as quick as i would have liked him to. long story short, it was 4:30 by the time i was in my own car.
he said he was stopping at the first place ot eat and i told him i was just gonna go through the drive through so he took off while i was getting changed and everything. he was not at the food place yet when i got there(there's a food court in stanton, where they have all the restaurants together) i thought it was funny he wasn't there yet, so i hit the hardees, which was the only other place, on my way out. not there. im thinking he got lost. being the selfish #&%!$ that i am, i went home.

Pepperdog, you make a good point, but he did set himself up for debating.............Now where can I get started on the reality show?? Okay, it wouldnt be that interesting unless it was based from TT..
