The Story of the Lucky Earrings

“Hello all just a little trip report.
Last Sunday we had a mission to complete in the Cumberland Gap National Park.
A little background, on June 1 I went on a backpacking trip and as we were putting the tent away, Steve, turned the tent upside down to clean it out and my lucky earrings were in there!!!! Well I didn't think about them until we were down to the car! So now 2 months later I went to find them after all they are lucky!
We hiked up the Lewis Hollow trail which is only 1 mile but what a mile! This leads up to the Ridge Trail. Well onto Gibson Gap backcountry site. This was a great 3 miles on the ridge crest. Lovely forest and views along the way. We were tryin to get there in a hurry I had to get down and work Sunday night. When we reached table rock I knew it was 15 minutes to the campsite then to find the earrings.
Well in the last 15 minutes we started hearing loud thunder in the distant over the ridge.
When we got there I started looking and had no luck. Almost gave up but hey just a little more and what luck I saw on so I knew the other had to be close and behold there it was just under some leaves.......I was so happy I sat down and enjoyed my find.
Just a little history on the earrings. They are lucky because I purchased them on our first AT section hike at Trail Days a few years ago. Well I wore them on that trip and no RAIN.... when we reached the car a downpour and flashflood happened..!!! So everytime I wear them we stay dry..
And they worked again....The thunder that day was moving very close so we took off back down the trail.... soon the blue sky came back and no rain..as we hiked back to Lewis Hollow we saw the dark clouds again in front of us but as we turned to go down the hollow the sun came again...and as you should have guessed by now when we got home wow! a storm like none we've had so far this year....
So there you have it lucky earrings or not? I say yes they are. I have lost them before once in a museum with 150 girl scouts found them, once in a campground found them... after this time of 2 months without them I know I will have them forever.
