You're right.......
"After giving this a couple of seconds thought, I think the list would have to include Los Angeles.....Dunadan"

And people wonder why I drive so far every weekend.

Grants Pass, OR
Quintessential redneck town going back yo beatnik literature. I know it's been over 30 years since they removed the "niggers out of town by dark" sign. But still wouldn't wanta go there unless for a good bar fight, and then, only if I could bring enough beefcake to back up my big mouth.

Okay, Olongapo and the whole subic bay area don't count.

One continuous mold-infested cardboard hut surrounded by a sewer-river does not count as a town.

Especially since it competes with Angeles in Pampanga Province, or used to back in the day.

Those were '90 prices. There was a great deal of inflation right after the coup attempt on Cory Aquino.

Back in '64 that all could have been had for less than 5 pesos, which converted somewhere around $1.39. We had a SammyGoo beer dispenser at our rehearsal theater that dispensed the PI's finest product at something like 40 centavos, which was slightly more than 10 cents.

Even with inflation factored in, that was a damn fine price for St. Michael's brew.

Yup. San Miguel for 20 cents a bottle when I was there.

If you are ever in Pensacola FL, go to the Naval Aviation Museum. (Great Museum!)They moved the Cubi Point bar there, pretty much intact, and operate it there as a cafe. It felt very weird.

Isn't San Miguel the only PI beer that doesn't have formaldehyde in it?

Nooo... There was red horse as well.

Of ourse, if you were a daring man, you skipped the beer altogether and had Mojo.

Bit, Mojo is many things in many places. It is a house recipe in most places, and the only thing all the recipes have in common is cheap PI liquor flavored with something.

Cheap, deadly, and sometimes tasty.

geez, baume. didn't ya read the "ECT dates" thread? i tried to be nice! it must have a strange sentimental pull on people. except lyra, who seems to be freakin' allergic to it.

this was my post...

"ok. ok. it wasn't THAAAAT bad. just old. old and not well kept. old and clean is good. old and dirty is crap.

it's a shame, too. it lies in a beautiful valley. it looks great from the mountains, but when you get down in it, you just want to go back up and look at it from a distance."

treebait - I went to college in Flint also. Downtown was nasty. I lived outside in Flushing most of the time.

I tried to drive my Volkwagen in downtown Manhattan during rush hour once. That was NASTY.

I didn't think LA was nasty, but then I avoid going downtown at all costs.

Butte, MT, surrounded by beautiful mtns., but unfortunately the site of the country's number one superfund clean-up site. Can anyone say, "Huge pool of toxic goo?"

Aachen, Germany. Skeery. It was real skeery. I felt like the Third Reich was right around the corner, esp. after we went to McD's at 2 AM. Bad choice.
