Rock Climbing

“at the end of the day i was exhausted and every muscle in my body was singing, and it felt great!”

“made two 5.8 routes last night, and not quite on a third. big diff in the 5.8 vs the 5.7 i did the other night - holds a lot smaller, forces more technique.

man, this stuff is fun.

the kids go into an intro class next week. If they like it, i'll have built in partners!”

“Made my first rock climbing attempt this past weekend. The office I work for was doing some conditions assessment for a blast furnace built in the 1850's. The only way to look at the top of the furnace was to climb to the top of the 50' furnace. Here's a picture of me climbing up the side.

“First time for me on Sunday as well. Ralph Stover State Park has some great rock. My forearms and calves are killing me. I look forward to doing it again.
No one ever told me it was so much fun.”

I took a class this summer at a local gym and then my 11 year old took the kids version too. She's hooked and is gonna sign up for an after school 'club' they have at the gym.

We both love it - its gonna become a friday night outing for us.”

“yeehaw! I'm taking a trip to Moab in November to climb and do some slot canyons. I'm so stoked!”

“manuka, we were about a half mile from the lot. We crossed the road, proceeded to the fence, turned left. We ended up near the creek which was a great place for lunch
(in other words, I din't know where we were!)”

“What did your leader use for pro that chosse pile?”

“I did a 5.9 route today that has been giving me fits for months. I stood looking at it and said to myself, "Stop doing this the same way you have been trying to do it over and over." So I tried a different way of shifting my weight at this ledge and bang, I was at the top. Then just to prove it wasn't a fluke I climbed the route three more times. Now it's not a challenge anymore. Climbing is funny that way.”

Sometimes just starting off with your other foot (left instead of right) will change the whole dynamics of the climb.”

“One of the things I find most fascinating about climbing is that it's very physical but also very mental and time plays a big factor. If you spend too much time thinking about that next move your arms will get tired and you'll peel off. You have to make decisions quickly and efficiently. I find that a 1/2 day of climbing leaves me as much mentally exhausted as physically.”

“went climbing tonight... 2nd night in a row. i couldn't climb worth damn... i knew yesterday was a hard workout. i was sore this morning. it was dumb to think i had recovered so soon. still missing a fair amount of skin on my fingertips.”

“Sometimes knocking off some easy 5.5's/ 5.6's can be great for recovery.”

“the joints in my fingers are still really stiff. my friends and i were sort of egging each other on and i guess i sort of overdid it... a "hold my beer and watch this" sort of thing except on belay.

i should have taken the day off of from the wall and run. it was sort of a wasted day.

i took the little climbing rat (my youngest son) with me and he had a good day, however. that little bigger can really climb. i am quite the proud poppa.

i am taking all three of the little jimmy/ette sons to red river gorge for a few days between the 1st and 6th to climb. should be a hoot... for them... nobody there to belay me. that's ok. it will be fun. i can boulder and lazy around. the spousal unit is visiting friends on the east coast so i figured why not get out with the kids and have some fun. it's not her scene anyway.”

“So that's what I'm doing for New Years, so Cool! With my awesome friend Stacey too! and about a dozen or so other rock climbers!”

“top rope, but i am hoping to learn more than that this week, staying until tues.”

“i went on a four day trip with my friend Stacey for new years, we had a blast! i'm getting better at belaying, but i still have to be tied down. being tiny is a problem.”

Ravens is where we were. i'm trying to think of the names. i climbed Rob's Rambunctious Ride, and i can't remember any of the other names. i got hurt a tiny, i made a sideways move, lost grip, fell two feet and bumped my face into the rock. had a fat lip with a little cut, swellings gone down but i'm bruised. it stung for a few minutes and brought tears to my eyes, but real women don't cry, LOL!

“that's me at Raven. i can't remember the name of this climb, but it's right next to CandyO. they call it a 5.9, but it's very easy.”

“i don't know how far, i'd have to mapquest it.

there are a few jugs, but not as many as you think from looking. and the flake mostly faces down. what looks like a good handhold, slopes downward just a bit. it's very slick hard rock. together it makes a great challenge, so really it's fun climbing!!!

Rambunctious was 5.8, but trickier in more places than this particular climb. I don't have any pics of the third or fourth climb I did.”

“hey Roam, i have to pic a start place in las vegas, can you give me one?”

“Ok Roam, the closest I can figure is 2 hours and 38 minutes and maybe 173 miles. I just picked out the North Las Vegas Airport and went down Barstow Rd from the 15 towards New Jack City which is not listed in Mapquest at all. The directions are easy if you want them.”

“Hey Roam Around, if you want those directions let me know, I'll be back on the computer later today.”

“I'm going climbing again, twice this month, WAHOOOOOOO!”
