I've been browsing the archives and looking at the earliest TT threads, or at least the ones still in the archives. Earliest is from 1999. See a lot of folks who aren't around much anymore:

Sierramel
Nigel
Colorado Dreamin
CaNmArK
Radagast
Naked Ape
SARboy and Trailartist
AmyG
Tarp Rat
lizs (just nudgin ya sweetie)
and others …

It’s getting to the point I’m starting to feel like an oldster here, being drowned by newbies. Who else is “missing in action?”

sierra mel is just mel now, I think and the site takes too long for her to load. Radagast comes by still, almost like he was conjured out of the shadows. Nigel got fed up with this site, can be found on the other site. Naked Ape moved recently and was gone for a while, but has been on a little just lately. AmyG got married and forgot about her friends. I may be mistaken, but I think Evergreen used to be Colorado Dreamin.

It was hard to stick it out when matt changed the format...but I'm glad I did, 'cause now there's way more people here from the northeast - and their willing to come to Maine!

I miss Idiot Bob the most, along with Tarpy and lips (and the rest of the AWOL gang).

With the odd exception, we seem to have lost the entire Pac NW. Where's Lipstick, Strider, Tekky Nomad, Meerkat and Old Timer. Only occasional appearances from China Chas and Alpine and Kleetn

Off hiking, maybe?

I dunno if I buy that. Snow Nymph goes out every weekend and still finds time to post.

Many people move on to post on other sites. It's like migrating wildebeast, sometimes there's fresh grazing if you keep on moving.

The PNW crowd sound like they have taste.

Weelllllll when I wuz a young-'un, we didn't have yer fancy World Wide Web to post to...we had to connect up to bulletin boards with 2400bps modems over ANALOG phone lines for Pete's sake...and if'n you wuz lucky, you could get to a server with a mirror of the Usenet newsgroups...and if you think that Ice Tea's spelling is bad, well, back in my day, little missy, you had to have a dictionary of abbreviations an inch thick to understand what was being said, and it would take you 10 minutes to download one post anyway. And uploading! Just as bad! And half the time your message wouldn't make it because some picky little SOB of a sysadmin didn't like that your .sig contained more than 4 lines of text. And email! Ha! half the time it didn't get there, which is why some of us old-timers still call each other on the phone to make sure our email got there.

You whippersnappers have it easy, that's for sure.

I drop in to check TT and see if there's anything happening. I see a thread about old threads, and lo and behold I'm mentioned!

I'm still about, hitting the occasional trail. Hiked with Nomad & Meerkat earlier this summer, and we ran into Lipstick Hiker and Lookingglass while on that trip (they were dayhiking Mt. Townsend and we climbed it from the back side). Will be seeing Tekky in a couple weeks to help him celebrate his wedding day, and I expect SARBoy and Trailartist (who now go by Marmot and Otter) will be there as well.

Lessee, who else.....

I heard Cork found a man, but I guess they fell off the earth (evidently, since she's not replying to e-mails). I have traded mail with Alpine, Old timer, Chas, and Hiker Boy a bit, but haven't connected with them this summer. I do wonder what happened to Freedom, haven't seen mail from her for awhile.

If anyone has e-mail addy for biz, please mail her and ask her to mail me - I owe her a trip to the beach sometime. Speaking of....

Winter ocean hiking season is approaching, maybe some of the old PNW crew might be up for some wet and wild beach time.

Gear Slut, I'll be presumptuous and speak for the PNW crowd - thanks for the compliment. If you're ever up this way I'd be pleased to demo some more or less palatable trail chow. Show ya what PNW taste really means (grin).

Well, since I'm here, I'd better peruse a few more threads and see if there's anywhere I can make a meaningful contribution.

Reflections
I knew strider was lurking out there. Old Timer lurks as well. I miss the posts from the PNW. I miss those guys.

Heard from Idiot Bob about two weeks ago. He's doing OK, but extremely busy (but that is probably not why he doesn't post much.).

Creekjumper is back. She started a thread yesterday. I'll have to check it and see if she answered my questions! What a career path: nurse-publisher-meatcutter...gotta find out what she is doing now.

I miss Nigal. He is a fun dude. Hope to hike with him again.

Freedom is still posting. She is planning on going on the Sierra Trip in October.

Dunk posts occasionally. He is a buff hiker if I ever saw one. He can outrun Mel's llamas.

I suspect Mozark lurks about and keeps up with the trip threads.

Solitary - Think you can get out her next year for another Sierra trip?

Sure a lot of cool people have come and gone from being regular posters. I have been posting regularly for about 5 years. Hobbit is one of the early posters also.

Well, better get some rest. Leaving tomorrow for a two night backpack in the San Gorgonio Wilderness on the Vivian Creek Trail.

I think I've been around since fall of 98 or so.

Knew Amy G. was going with the guy who was her friend... didn't know they got married. Good for them!

Guess I should post her since I haven't been around for awhile.

Had lotsa back probs that I have recovered from recently. Still doing lotsa overnighters, but haven't done any big trips since Utah last year. Climbing twice a week, and planning more.

Feeling great and hoping to hook up with some of you good folk soon.

Still not crazy about the new format. The old Trail Talk was just so homey.

Hey there Old Timer? How's the knee these days? Healed enough for a drive to the NW coast this winter? You gotta let me build you one of my coal baked onions....

I've tried e-mailing you a number of times recently, and the mail keeps bouncing back. How about dropping me an E so I can re-check the address I have for you.
