What have I forgotten?
I've not backpacked in almost 10 years,,, I am tooooo ready to get back out!! I've dusted off the equiptment, everything works (after I replaced some things!), now I ask "just what am I forgetting", I've checked my list twice, but I'm sure you are all like me and when out on the trail you discover the one, or more things that you've forgotten!!!! Help me out, please what do you suppose I've neglected to remember??

If you are like me, you've forgotten to dump the stuff you really don't need.

don't have a list ready to submit, I'll work on that!
I was thinking I could get input on the most likely things that I might be forgetting !!!
What did you last wish you brought that you forgot ?????

Creativity
Forgetting stuff and having to "think outside the box" to make do is part of the fun!

the more pertinent question is what is the most disasterous to forget. Ask chili36. He had to do some fast talking and a little bartering at one time.

I always start with the basics...
Food
Clothing
Shelter
rain gear

and then think of what the essentials are in each of those areas. But if you have those things covered, you can generally do without some of the things you'd like to have. I keep a list of what I use/don't use on each trip. and what I think I needed that I didn't bring. That helps me define a list for the next time.

Another thing is to search the web for other people's lists. I get a lot of ideas from those. There are a LOT of people who publish their gear lists!!

I forgot my checklist once.

I forgot my tent poles once, also. It's a good thing it didn't rain... but it was kinda windy and the plastic clips on the outside of that Sierra Designs tent whacked me in the head all night.

Now do you really think the government is going to watch me in the backcountry??? hmmm... do you think they have a fix on my GPS signal?? Or do they have "other means" ??? Just what do you suppose they suspect me of?? I'm teasing, or do you know something I don't know ????

Thanks for the coffee reminder !!!!
I only drink coffe on the trail, not at home,,, I get my caffine from Mountain Dew at home,,Two cold "Dews" in the morning are just what I need to wake me up,,and get my day rolling!,, I just can't find an extinsion cord long enough or a portable refridgerator that will fit in my pack !!!!! ...hehe.... So I'm a coffee dude on the trail !! (caffine is a very nice drug!!)

duct tape
Never, never, never leave the house without a good ol'fashioned roll of duct tape.....absolutely indespensable when ya need it,anything N.A.S.A. trust to hold spacecraft together in orbit is something you don't want to be without in the weeds.

duct tape and J.B. weld
J.B. weld another indespensable thing to have when ya need it. Last year i sat on my only pair of sunglasses on a charter boat in the key's, the guide had some jb weld and fixed'em right up in about 5 minutes...i always have some in my pack now after that.
