I want to go hiking up in the mountains but don't want to slip on snow and ice and fall. I've heard there are spikes called clampons you can put on your shoes. Anyone try them? How easy are they to put on?

You are obviously a person who will not need these items. Please note that you will not need any food nor a tent or other shelter. Just go out into the wilderness, and let nature take care of you. Thank you.

They are actually called crampons, and yes Ice Tea taht does sound alot like tampons. I am no a profesional mountain climber, so they may be called clampons too, I honestly do not know. I have never used them, but I will this winter when I go ice climbing. If you still want to know how well they work and all of that stuff I will let you know when I become a profesional. Another sugestion is do a yahoo search or a google search, there most likly is a sight all about them

Just in case this thread wasn't intended to be a joke:

Depending on how much ice and snow you are dealing with, crampons or snowshoes would be helpful. For small patches of ice and snow you can do without.

CA: Your question is really hard to answer more specifically, because you don't say what mountains, what season or how much ice and snow you are thinking about taking on.
