50 tonight. Started out tired and thought I'd quit at 45, but didn't.

Been in a holding pattern between 45 and 50 for the past two weeks. Sort of like circling between 19 and 25 some months ago when I started. These "pups" should help when I hit the A.T. in a year or two.

Bude,try alternating yer hand position.Try bringing yer hands real close or spread em far out.U can do em close grip (instead of palms use yer fists-pushing off knuckles).
Try doing clapping pushups.Its just a coordination thing.
Anyway,im sure theres a place on the web thatll show all the diff. type of pushups.
I go in and out of exercise cycles right now im lazy.usually i go down to the beach-regular basis-and do a bunch of dips and chin ups.
What im also doing now is no- weight squats.Man those burn and can kill if do it slow and also stop in the middle and hold.I do it till my legs shake like a leaf...
Sometimes work interferes with my exercise...

No but if I have to push a tree or mountain out the way to get there faster I'll be in good shape.

Here's what you do. Place your hands firmly against a tough stretch of uphill that you'd rather not be in your way. Wedge your feet into the mud. Now, start doing your 50+ pushups, and you're at Katadin in no time.

I'll try some of those variations later davex, but for now I'm sticking to the basic pups until I find my limit (if there is one). That way if Sgt. Hartman get smart and says "DROP DOWN AND GIVE ME 100" I can throw it back at him and call him Sgt. Puss when he only does 14.

if you change yer routine for 3 or 4 days youll prolly come back and be able to do 65 of yer reg style pu's!Especially if you do the narrow grip where yer hands are close together and yer pushing off yer knuckles(closed fists).

Count every-other-one and you'll fool yourself into doing more.
Do this every few days to mess with your mind.
It works with pull-ups too.

Drill Instructor Hartman does at least 65 every morning. Last wk he did super sets, started at 21 then rested for 21 seconds then 20 then a 20 second rest. He did this till he could do no more, about 208 all total. He hurt for a few days...so I hear.

In the county hotel we used to play cards for pushups. Turn over a card and do that amount. Face cards = 10, an ace = 15. Just keep going around as long as you could.

I've noticed doing a set of ups raises my mood. For the first time in awhile, I missed my pups last night. Was feeling rotten and tonight too, so I decided to get back with the program. Did 48 ups, and my mood went up too. Almost good as beer!

SUPER SETS
Finally tried the 21-20 super sets tonight. (21 pushups followed by a 20-second rest, repeated till you can't do anymore.)

105!

It WAS harder than I thought. In the last set I really started running out of steam in the 90s, but pushed on to complete the fifth set.

I don't do supersets...I do 10 or so sets of 50 during the day...startin right before the shower and then right after...then all day long whenever I think of it...50 at a clip, minimum of 10 shots a day. but I do much more than just pU's...I pull tractors too...and canoes, loaded with gear

Yeah stikmon, I heard about them canoe pull-ups. LOL

10 sets of 50 during the course of a day. Interesting. Right now I'm just at 47-50 at a time, I'd really be in shape if I could do that 10xday.

Hell stikman, since you're in such good shape why not stick that girl in your pack when doin the canoe pulls. Then when you get to camp you could both do pulls together.

Bude, those supersets are tough arent they! I try to do that once a week. Every (90% of the time)day I do 75 p/u's before work. I started at 30 and have worked my way up. I am sorta at a plateau right now.

A few years ago i took a physical for our DNR to be a fish-cop. I did 8 sets of 50 pushups per day for 2 months in advance. I did better than the other 125 candidates,77 in one minute.

I love pushups. Hated em in the service, enjoy em now...go figure.

F___U!!! you really are the dip$hit. like nothing disasterous every happened to you in life...maybe maybe not...but if this had happened to you...you probably would not have been able to haul your sorry old a$$ out of the woods...you would have gone home cryin like a baby...or even had a freakin heart attack onthe trail...Moral of the story...is that I did it and made it through...I didn't turn back...the goal was to go from point a to point b...I did that...how...irrevelant...in the army;;;they don't turn back from obstacles...they say "deal with it" I did...and you have the audacity...yeah...I can spell too...to criticize ME!!! you worthless peice of human excrement...crikey!!! if you have kids...I hope they get better treatment...never insult someone from the internet...you never know when you might meet them...and certainly don't know what they are capable of...I don';t mind laughin with,,,but "AT"...no way...that I won't take. Hope ya won't be at TC2...I might just "pull" your head off and go bowling with it.

53 tonight. Missed last night and was worried about tonight, but they started strong and steady and I knew I'd make it. Nonetheless I ran out of gas at 53. Am on a kind of plateau around the 50 mark.

Figure I'll do more of the super sets to loosen things up, break out of the pattern. Did 105 (5 sets) last week. Don't know how Drill Instructor Hartman did 208, but maybe I can get there and better over time.

One time, DI Hartman did a physical fitness test for the Department of natural Resources in his state, (he was applying for a job), and he managed to do 77 pushups in 60 seconds! I hear tell Hartman is a stud, with a fine, fine chest,firm and full of muscle. (ooo-la-la!)

One day Bude, you may be just as fit as DI Hartman.
