Let's Buy Some Tyvek!View MessagesI want some “Who else is interested in buying a roll of Tyvek Homewrap? I think the rolls are about $100 at Home Depot. I think the rolls are 100'x 9'. I would be willing to purchase the roll and mail it out to people in exchange for splitting the cost of the roll plus a nominal amount for shipping (this stuff is lightweight, afterall). I'd probably take about 20-40 feet of the stuff as I'd like to make a sweet tarp and a couple of ponchos. If you have seen this stuff in person, you know it is burly and will serve you well. You can wash it in your washing machine. It is pliable like material, waterproof and breathable. NOw who wants some?” 12:31:43 PM 9/03/02 “email me!!!!! the info.” 12:34:31 PM 9/03/02 “I want 22'. Some other guy's website says he can get up to 22' into a U.S. Postal Service Priority Mail shipping box. Email me at wksmith1000@hotmail.com” 1:18:19 PM 9/03/02 “I need 20+” 1:19:30 PM 9/03/02 “O.K. I think that about does it. Thank you for bidding and I will contact the two high bidders.” 1:41:23 PM 9/03/02 “I LIED! There is still room for one person to commandeer the remaining 18' of Tyvek.” 1:42:16 PM 9/03/02 1:47:56 PM 9/03/02 “Done! Sold to the ex-lawyer from Bama!” 1:56:53 PM 9/03/02 FYI “Dupont doesn't claim that Tyvek housewrap is waterproof - only that it resists 'bulk water' when used as a second line of defense and is highly breathable.” 2:05:23 PM 9/03/02 “After HPM has tested a Tyvek tarp, I am inclined to think that his design is the way to go.” 2:12:53 PM 9/03/02 “Tis true Violin, but I haven't read anything that indicates it leaks. All the accounts I have read is that people under it stayed bone dry. Maybe if you held a firehose to it...” 2:16:44 PM 9/03/02 “DuPont, like many, many companies, is probably too smart to claim that the product is "water proof". That is a huge statement.” 2:19:17 PM 9/03/02 “I would say that if it holds up to a Florida downpour, its close enough to waterproof for a tarp.” 2:19:33 PM 9/03/02 “I would be interested if you get more. My tyvek ground cloth is pretty worn (~120 days). I have a 2nd piece, but would like to get more for when that wears out.” 2:32:33 PM 9/03/02 “O.K. SN, will keep you apprised. Doubt I'll need the full 40' but just wanted to make sure. About how big a piece are you looking for?” 2:35:16 PM 9/03/02 “RM, SN, I can get by with a twelve foot section if the other 6' will fit SN's needs.” 2:37:24 PM 9/03/02 “Just how many Tyveks had to die to make that 9' x 100' pelt?” 3:42:52 PM 9/03/02 “I'll have to check. Can't open the Stephenson's website at work. Its for the 2R Warmlite. Probably 5'x9'. 5' because I can fit across the long way, and 9' because I think that's the size it comes in. I shouldn't even be here. Back to work! ----->” 4:08:54 PM 9/03/02 Snow Nymph's tent: “ ![]() 4:18:21 PM 9/03/02 “well did you go to Home Depot yet??lol hurry!” 7:23:33 PM 9/03/02 “Mine has never leaked in a rainstorm and it has been in some big ones. One of which was a tropical depression. For those of you not familiar, tropical depressions dump more a LOT more water than a hurricane can. I did however find out that the Tyvek tarp will stretch in heavy rain comperable to nylon tent material. Another weakness is that it abrades easily but that is easy to avoid by guying it out well and easy to fix with tyvek tape. I have read a claim somewhere that Tyvek will absorb moisture but that has not been my experience. Tyvek IS porous so if you use it as a ground sheet in a very saturated spot water might creep through. I use a plastic ground sheet. It's heavier but I feel more secure with it. But yes it does repel bulk moisture (that's rain y'all) quite well.” 7:25:24 PM 9/03/02 “Price?? You getting it??” 4:41:11 PM 9/04/02 “Sweet! Thanks for the update, HPM. Just to keep everyone in the loop, I've been busy rebuilding an engine and haven't gotten over to Home Despot yet to buy the Tyvek. Heading out for three days in the backcountry this weekend but when I get back on Monday, I'll head over there and buy the stuff. I'll let you know as soon as I get it. I'm ready to implement a NEW, lightweight shelter for the fall! Hurrah!!” 12:01:05 PM 9/05/02 “cool, me to!” 1:31:04 PM 9/05/02 “i saw a house being built today . it was covered in tyvek. i was all schemin on how to got some, ,lol. i stopped and asked the guys if they had any left over & they told me to come back tomorrow and they would prolly have a piece for me. they thought i was nuts! i could hear them laughing as i walked away. they couldnt hear me laughing.” 3:28:51 PM 9/05/02 “You're lucky Strat. I always see the knock off home wrap around here. It sucks and stays all crinkly and noisy.” 3:35:01 PM 9/05/02 “our home depot only has it in the 3' x 100' rolls. $39.98” 6:57:43 AM 9/06/02 “My boss is building a camp and I asked if he had any pieces left over - he just looked at me like I was a silly woman. I checked out Home Depot last night and they carry 3 sizes. I'm thinking of buying one of the smaller rolls, but wonder how it would hold up if say, I taped two pieces together with the tyvek tape to get whatever width I want. Whaddya think? I'm thinking of using it for 1) a groundcloth for my tent, 2) a cover for my winter sled, and 3) a tarp to cover the opening of a lean-to in winter. I also likethe looks of hpm's tarp. Would a tarp hold up in wind if it was taped?” 8:22:45 AM 9/06/02 roseymonster “Well?” 12:38:07 PM 9/12/02 “Ahem. I'm on it! I'm on it! I haven't fogotten. I go to sleep every night thinking I need to go buy that damn Tyvek. I have this weekend free so it's bound to happen. I, um, promuumble, mumble...” 12:47:23 PM 9/12/02 “Could use a fresh piece, I'm getting "Fuzzies" on my old trusty piece. Make the call, I'm in on the cash part. Just need a 4x8 unless you need use the buy more. What happened to the Kite stuff??” 4:01:12 PM 9/12/02 “I didn't really pursue the kite stuff ever.” 5:44:07 PM 9/12/02 “I'll get you all builder price...” 6:48:45 PM 9/12/02 “So what's the minimum Josh?” 10:10:32 PM 9/13/02 “I did the same thing Strat did. Stopped by a new subdivision project and one of the workers gave me a piece about 8'x14' Try it before you buy it” 10:43:25 PM 9/13/02 “I'm looking for some also. My home Depot doesn't even carry it. I need about the same size as SN...just in case someone has some for sale.” 12:11:47 AM 9/14/02 roseymonster “Well? Hurt toe delay?” 9:27:34 AM 9/17/02 “He is listed as "day to day" in the Tyvek buying arena.” 9:28:29 AM 9/17/02 “LOL” 9:30:19 AM 9/17/02 9:40:22 AM 9/17/02 “I'm soooo there...” 10:20:28 AM 9/17/02 “Has roseymonster been upgraded to "probable" yet?” 12:25:20 PM 9/26/02 “Chili: Let me find out if I can get an Inyo Exponent for $35 and then I'll let you know if the deal is still on. Really, I do want some Tyvek and it's still at the forefront. Stay apprised...” 12:37:01 PM 9/26/02 “LOL,,,, just checking.” 12:45:08 PM 9/26/02 “Hey, and if JOSH can work the better deal, maybe we can all benefit :) What's story cut-rate-Tyvek-access-having-dood?” 12:48:31 PM 9/26/02 “The 8'x14' piece I got for free at a construction project shortly after this thread was started is nearly worn out. By the time you guys finally make the move it will probably be obsolete, ;-)” 1:28:10 PM 9/26/02 “It must have come worn out then because my understanding is it has a pretty long life when new...” 1:35:48 PM 9/26/02 1:55:08 PM 9/26/02 “That sounds like a better deal than rosey was doin' ya for and here you actually get it.” 2:02:59 PM 9/26/02 Now I Need To Hit Him Up ALONE And Ask For Some “Some guys from the panel (wall) shop were at the mill today doing some work, and one of them is someone I use to work with. It occurred to me to ask if they had any Tyvek wrap at their shop, and the answer was...YES!” 6:27:16 PM 9/26/02
