Replying to a post . . how to ??
I am an avid camper and day hiker,,,, but, this backpacking thing is new to me. I have just about got my Lowe Alpine 90-15 "house" packed and ready for fall hikes. I would like to know how to reply to posts here on this BB.
There are some very interesting threads that I would like to reply to and be involved in.
From the shores of SouthEast Georgia, Thanks for your help!!

Trekker John, looks like you've figured it all out.. congrats!

Best of luck with the backpacking. The regulars on this thread can be a comical bunch, but are also VERY knowledgable and more than happy to share information. You can post a thread with a question(s) and you'll have lots of responses very quickly. You can also search the threads to see if a topic has been covered before. There's a search box at the bottom of the screen on the the main Trail Talk page.

Happy trails! :-)

Backpacking will be a whole new way of life. You will soon find that "car camping" just won't be the same.

Good luck,,

Thanks, guys for such a warm welcome. My "day job" requires me to be at another BullBoard on www.letterhead.com if you want to visit. It is for, and all about, signs and signmakers (such as I). Maybe the managers of this forum would like to visit and maybe get some nice hints on some additions to this board.
Oh, yeah .. . the car camping (15 passenger Dodge van) is fun and comfy, but, I really like the full outdoors. I will just have to get that extra long extension cord for the A/C and color television!!
Thanks again for the warm welcome.

Starting a new thread would be 'Post a Thread' on the main TT page, but I assume you figured that one out by yourself.

I'm not trying to be a jerk, but did you call tech support to find out how to turn your computer on?

;-)

we get lots of trolls around this joint, Trekker John...you'll have to excuse. unless you ARE a troll; then Eat It!

actually, i never posted to a message board before this one, and it seemed to come easily. maybe this format is a lot different from message boards you're used to?

Yes, Lyra, this format is very different from other boards I have visited. And, by the looks of some of the responses like violin, I can see why folks only visit once then move on. I shall watch from a distance for a while to see if it is only a few jerks that spoil it for the newcomers.
And, for someone that is "not trying to be a jerk"..... sure knows how to pull it off!! (you succeeded) Just think what he could do if he put some real effort in it!!
And as the saying goes,. . .. Happy trails to you TOO

Don't let them chase you away Trekker. There are quite a few around the board from your part of the country.

TJ, just about everyone here is a good person and a good hiking companion. They're just not always well-mannered. ;)

If you stick it out through the hazing/initiation phase, you'll make good friends and learn a lot about backpacking.

Seriously TJ, this does make you look pretty lame. But, I'll assume you are asking a serious question, therefore I shall have to ponder awhile in order to give you an insightful answer... ;-)

Trekker John - you ain't seen nothing yet. Wait till you ask about taking your dog along or what kind of water filter you should get. You just need to sort through the snobs to get the good information that is on this board.

There are a lot of people on this BB from your neck of the woods and they seem to plan a lot of hikes.

Welcome, from the Golden State.

Trekker John,
Like yourself, this is all new to me and I've been sitting back taking it all in before checking in. I'm not new to backpacking, but it's been awhile so anxious to meet a few new folks as well as gathr some knowledge. Hope I can get a post, or two in, before someone bites my head off.
