How Can You Ague With THE MAN??? “So I'm riding my longboard to work this morning at ~4:45am when I came up to a blind intersection. I saw that it was a green light, so I pumped and pumped to get enough speed to catch the light. Well, as I made the left turn (road I was on T's into another...Main Street) a Police car was moving slowly up towards the intersection. He rolls down the window and asks me to come over...I had so muchspeed I had to pass and go around the back of the car and I stopped at the passenger side window. He says "You know, if I were to run that light I would've run you over?" So I says "I saw the green light and figured I'd ride the street rather than go onto the sidewalk as I usually do." So he says "The light was turning yellow, and if I were to run that yellow light, I probably wouldn't have seen you in time and may have hit you." So I says "I had the green light!" So he says "The light was turning yellow!" So I says "I'm not argueing with you." And that was pretty much it. The Police officer was rather nice, and I really didn't hit a bad tone of voice, I just asserted I had the green light. But the dood insisted that his way had a yellow light!!! What could I do???...Nothing but concede and move on. I know what I did and I had the green light, and the oficer was obviously mistaken. I believe he said the light was yellow to make a point, but when I returned with my comments, he could not then back down from what he said. I've been riding skateboards for more than 25 years now. Been on a team, travelled, done demos, judged contests, and entered many contests. I try to be a model skater. I have learned to be keenly aware of all that's around me and especially when in areas with traffic. What the officer was implying by saying his light was turning yellow was that I blatantly ran a red light on my skateboard...INTO A BLIND INTERSECTION, to boot. What a fool am I to do that if it was true...but that was not the case. He never even mentioned that he could give me a ticket for running a red light or anything else he could've written me up for. You know why?...Because I believe he knew I was correct. Anywho... I'm glad he didn't run the light!” 6:16:30 PM 9/06/02 “That's probably the only reason he even called you over- Being a cop, he had probably wanted to run the light. Hey, any day you don't get a ticket or a bullet in the ass is a good one.” 6:31:23 PM 9/06/02 “too many cops become richards when they are bored... Budder have you seen "Dogtown and Z Boys" yet?” 6:35:03 PM 9/06/02 “Buddur, I commute to work by bike as well as do a lot of road and mountain biking. One thing I've learned over the years is when your on a bike, skakes, board, etc.; even when you're in the right your always gonna lose when going against cars and trucks. Like Corporal said, the cop was probably going to run the light and you scared the pi$$ out of him at 4:45 a.m.” 6:39:30 PM 9/06/02 “Buddur, you coulda told him that if he had run you over that when the dust settled, that there would be a new police chief in town...Chief Buddur!” 6:58:21 PM 9/06/02 “Buddur, don't get your longboard taken away too!!!! EEEEEEEEEEEEEEK!! >8-O” 7:04:04 PM 9/06/02 “What if the police officer was an an emergency assignment with or without his lights and siren and LEGALLY ran the red light. Splat. I got pulled over for speeding last year and didn't mention what I did for a living and where. When I merely disagreed with the officer, Dr. Jeckle became Mr. Hyde. Your story Buddur has the ring of truth. I will spare you the ugly details of my story and my ticket. Most police officers have a lot of stress in their jobs. F.B.I. studies show that the assertive police officer is less likely to be killed in the line of duty on street and during traffic stops than the less assertive police officer. Try to keep that in mind and don't add to their stress.” 7:05:59 PM 9/06/02 “Avoid little hitlers whenever possible.” 7:26:31 PM 9/06/02 “I could not have said it any better Tilt! 8|” 9:38:47 PM 9/06/02 “Listen to the cop...the next time, it could be a drunk driver, someone who just had a heart attack or just some scofflaw that wanted to burn the light. Like Geezr said...against a car, biker, skater or boarder will lose.” 3:07:45 AM 9/07/02 “Face it, Budder, you're just a f-up. j/k ;-)” 5:13:54 AM 9/07/02 “I didn't even have to open the thread to know who started it. Still struggling with authority, eh Buddur.” 9:27:53 AM 9/07/02 “friggin scateboard police SAWK! can't they go find a terrorist er sumpthin?” 9:40:59 AM 9/07/02 “Aren't skateboards for children? Buddur, I can understand, if you are trying to maintain a youthful exuberance, but let's not forget our maturity. That police officer, by the way, did he have six fingers?” 11:24:01 AM 9/07/02 “My dad is a retired cop. I can vouch for the assertion that some cops are total jerks. However, some are also good guys. Kinda like the rest of society. Believe it or not, I've never been pulled over. If I ever do and I believe I am in the right, my plan is to politely ask the cop if he's interested in my side of the story. If not, I'll shut up. If he is, then I will politely present my case. Some cops are willing to listen, some aren't. Seems fair to ask in advance.” 11:29:27 AM 9/07/02 YouMeanYouDontEnjoyActivitiesYouDidWhenYouWerYoung “Aren't skateboards for children? Little Bird 11:24:01 AM 09/07/02 You may be surprised to find out that there are many out there who, when they were very young participated in an activity, and still enjoy that activity into their aged years. What about Little League?...Lots of baseball players, and many more fans who still enjoy playing catch! Midget Football?...Many armchair NFL fans who are diehard fans and still will get together for a game of tag! Playing Army or Cops & Robbers?...Lots of servicemen and police officers out there! See my point? And the board I ride is a longboard, not your "ordinary" skateboard. It is much longer, making it more stable, has larger & soft wheels to make for a comfortable and cushioned feel and will ride over most rocks and road surface imperfections, and loose trucks for "on a dime" turning response. These setups are meant for speed, cruising and getting from point A to B...not your kickiddy flipiddy moves you see on TV. You may also be surprised to know that there's many out there older than me who still participate in this activity...check out the Northern California Downhill Skateboarding Association - Rediscovering the Soul of Skateboarding! site I frequent. Frankly, I'm feel fortunate I can still participate in an activity I've enjoyed throughout my life...unlike many armchair athletes out there!” 11:56:06 AM 9/07/02 “Buddur, you should do something that matters with your biometric energy. Try investigating the various subterranean caverns near your home. Be sure to carry a firearm. We are hunted, you know. Fate have mercy on our species.” 1:49:55 PM 9/07/02 Even Little Birds Grow Up To Be Big Birds “What matters to me is doing the things I enjoy...no matter what others think of that activity. That's why I spent my Friday night jamming my banjo to old tyme tunes with a dozen elderly folk on guitars, 1 violin, 2 banjos, 1 woman on a mandolin and another woman yodler, and about 3 dozen elderly in the audience. I ended the session with Amazing Grace. Ohmygawd...If most of my friends knew! (Ask me if I care?) And More than 10 years ago I purchased from the Pennsylvania Geological Society the Book w/maps "Caves In Western Pennsylvania" after which I can assure you I did my fair share of investigating the various subterranean caverns near my home. I do the things I please with my biogenimetetric synergy because those activities please me, regardless of what others think. Life is too short to worry about trivial things such as how you are percieved by others...if I worried about what others thought of me, I certainly would NOT leave the house.” 10:10:37 PM 9/07/02 “man, this one time....at scateboard camp, i stuck a .......well nevermind....” 12:00:20 AM 9/08/02 “Corporal Nasty makes a very good point but... I once got stopped for going too slow in the lefthand lane. Of course, I was passing someone at the time who had decided to speed up while I was passing. I was in exess of the posted speed limit when the baby blues lit up so I thought I was going to get a ticket for speeding. Imagine my surprise when he started chewing me out for going too slow! I pointed out that he had been so close behind me that I couldn't see his headlights in my rearview mirror (which was in fact the case) and proceeded to chew him out for endangering me and my son. I really let him have it. By the time I was done he had appologized to me. I probably should have complained about the illegal stop but I let it go. When you're right, you're right. If you don't stick up for yourself, who will?” 12:19:33 PM 9/08/02 “If my car was a little older and I was alone in the car, I'd be tempted to "tap" the brakes a little and let the Friendly Fuzz explain to his superiors how he caused the accident by following too closely.” 1:41:38 PM 9/08/02 “Hey Buddr. There's a UPS driver in my neighborhood that rides a longboard to work, in fact, there's quite a few around town. I think they're pretty cool and look stable a hell. I mean, that guy gives it a few solid pumps and glides for half a block. If a cop is bustin' your nads for that, there's obviously not enough going on or he's just an a-hole. I've gotten a running a red light on a bicycle before and I KNOW that light was yellow. I didn't stop the next time it happened :)” 11:17:15 PM 9/08/02 “Buddur, you attract cops like a magnet. You may as well admit it and adjust your life accordingly. They are everywhere, so it's not paranoia!” 7:15:51 AM 9/09/02
