C'mon go easy on the windbag (Rush not strat LOL) I mean he is an addict, maybe he can qualify for some cush government rehab program that he always railed against while bashing those with drug problems. Those chickens do really come home to roost! Good luck Rush, enjoy your early retirement.

So when people have compassion for drug addicts, like needle exchange programs, conservatives call them liberals. And conservatives call the addicts: criminals.

But now you want us to be compassionate to Rush. Wouldn't that be, you know, liberal?

Strat, before you go getting all mad at everyone on this thread...

I have no compassion for Rush. I have empathy for him in the fact that he is an addict (my sis is in recovery for alcohol and has been sober for years). I dont have sympathy or anything else for him. He made the choice to take his pills. He also made the choice to belittle drug users on his program. To deny that is simply ignoring facts. I listened to him for YEARS.If you set yourself up as the standard bearer and make the boastful claims he has (taking on the world with half my brain tied behind my back....talent on loan from God...) you better be beyond reproach. The same way conservatives held clinton accountable for his sins, conservatives need to hold Rush accountable for his.As a conservative I will!

He is not some hapless victim. Rush speaks clearly about personal responsiblity (he oughtta take some) he speaks about the need for tougher drug laws and enforcement (he should be in prison by his own standards) he berated addicts, he deserves no better himself.

Pride cometh before the fall. Rush had massive pride, here comes his massive fall.

And strat, I seriously would get caught up defending him. His actions are NOT defendableThose peolpe who speak out on his behalf sound like Clintons people during his monica mess, its just weak. And it really makes conservatives look like fools.

Rush played the public for fools.

So dont go turning this around and making claims that are nonsense like "man, wouldn't it be funny if ya'll were hooked on drugs...then we could make fun of you and dismiss everything you've ever said...that would rock....now wouldn't it? maybe your brother could get hooked, that's be great. how bout your kid? we could all make fun of her and wish her prison time and public humiliation......." No one said anything (or even eluded too) along those lines. Rush put himself in the spot-light.

Peace dude, from one conservative to another.

i know birch but here's how i see it.

i agree that he screwed up royally and that he should have known that he'd be huge target if he ever did anything wrong. it's his fault, i agree. but i think that he is a good hearted person and therefore deserves compassion. if you were his friend, would you turn your back on him now? no, because you are a good hearted person too. see what i mean?

but i also think he IS taking personal responsibility. he didnt lie about it or blame others. he boned up in a way that must have been incredibly difficult. i can't imagine how hard that had to be.

the bottom line to me is, having a flaw doesn't negate his opinions and views.

and my point i was trying to make is that people ought to be kind because it could happen to them, or someone they know and they would support them if it ever happened to someone they know. my other point is that everybody in here has flaws and has made mistakes. it doesn't negate everything they've ever said. this has happened to many of my friends and family members. i'm not trying to defend the indefensable. i feel sorry for him cause i've seen it with my own eyes.

peace right back atcha birch

Sooooo..... when exactly did Rush display his "good-heartedness" on his show????????????
The dude was nothing more than a paid attack dog for the non-thinking conservatives. He spewed more misinformation than the Tass news agency.
He "boned up" when his housekeeper ratted him out, not before.

Strat,

I am one of the more ardent conservatives on this board. I have enjoyed the fact that Rush has exposed the fallacies of the Democratic party and it's socialist policies.

His approach is very caustic, but effective. His credibility is perched precariously on his foundation of ethically and morally superior behaviour. Once this foundation is cracked his postion as an advocate for conservative values is gone.

If he sought treatment for his addiction prior to being outed he could have retained some credibility.

strat, Rush may be a good hearted person. I dont know, I have never met him, I base my opinion on his radio personality who is a mean and arrogant man. I am not turning my back on Rush, I never had loyalty to him. I know he has a tough job ahead and I hope he is successful. I also hope he learns about humility and the danger of pride and a super-inflated ego.

Great post, Bacpac. I only hope both sides of the political spectrum can bring what the president said he was bringing with his administration: Compassion. It is not glorious for anyone to gloat on the misfortunes of others. Therefore, we should not gloat about Rush's weaknesses. I just wish Rush would have practiced more compassion in his public life.

What lies?

I’ll just address one right now because someone on this board has repeated it many times.

Rush: Democrats insure their political survival with anti-poverty programs by keeping a class dependent upon government largess.

Reality: 11 of the 13 wealthiest states voted for Gore. 15 of the poorest 17 states voted for Bush. Examine the flow of federal funds back to the sates (need acrobat reader). As a general rule few exceptions, the states that receive the least back from what they ship to Washington vote Democrat while the states that receive far more back than they send vote Republican.

Just who benefits from a “dependent class”?

America owes talk host Rush Limbaugh a debt of gratitude, Libertarians say

Libertarian Party Press Releases

WASHINGTON, DC -- The entire nation owes radio broadcaster Rush Limbaugh a debt of gratitude, Libertarians say, because his ordeal has exposed every drug warrior in America as a rank hypocrite.

"One thing we don't hear from American politicians very often is silence," said Joe Seehusen, Libertarian Party executive director. "By refusing to criticize Rush Limbaugh, every drug warrior has just been exposed as a shameless, despicable hypocrite.

"And that's good news, because the next time they do speak up, there'll be no reason for anyone to listen."

The revelation that Limbaugh had become addicted to painkillers -- drugs he is accused of procuring illegally from his Palm Beach housekeeper -- has caused a media sensation ever since the megastar's shocking, on-air confession last week.

As the Limbaugh saga continues, here's an important question for Americans to ask, Libertarians say: Why are all the drug warriors suddenly so silent?

"Republican and Democratic politicians have written laws that have condemned more than 400,000 Americans to prison for committing the same 'crime' as Rush Limbaugh," Seehusen pointed out. "If this pill-popping pontificator deserves a get-out-of-jail-free card, these drug warriors had better explain why."

Given their longstanding support for the Drug War, it's fair to ask:

Why haven't President George Bush or his tough-on-crime attorney general, John Ashcroft, uttered a word criticizing Limbaugh's law-breaking?

Why aren't drug czar John P. Walters or his predecessor, Barry McCaffrey, lambasting Limbaugh as a menace to society and a threat to "our children?"

Why aren't federal DEA agents storming Limbaugh's $30 million Florida mansion in a frantic search for criminal evidence?

Why haven't federal, state, and local police agencies seized the celebrity's homes and luxury cars under asset-forfeiture laws?

Finally, why aren't bloviating blabbermouths like William Bennett publicly explaining how America would be better off if Limbaugh were prosecuted, locked in a steel cage and forced to abandon his wife, his friends, and his career?

The answer is obvious, Seehusen said: "America's drug warriors are shameless hypocrites who believe in one standard of justice for ordinary Americans and another for themselves, their families and their political allies.

"That alone should completely discredit them."

But there's an even more disturbing possibility, Seehusen said: that the people who are prosecuting the Drug War don't even believe in its central premise -- which is that public safety requires that drug users be jailed.

"The Bushes and Ashcrofts and McCaffreys of the world may believe, correctly, that individuals fighting a drug addiction deserve medical, not criminal treatment," he said. "That would explain why they're not demanding that Limbaugh be jailed.

"But if that's the case, these politicians have spent decades tearing apart American families for their own political gain. And that's an unforgivable crime."
