The libs say Bush lie, but never really back that up. They need to learn they ARE being lied to, but not by who they think.” 8:03:24 PM 10/01/07 “Actually I do listen to Rush sometimes on my car radio. I appreciate his skill and mastery and it is interesting to see how he thinks and spins and sometimes he has good points. I listen to O'Reilly and Jay Severin (who I think is local) for similar reasons. Anyhow I think its hugely disingenuous of Rush to say he was only talking about the one non-soldier. At the very least he was trying to tar all soldiers who speak out against the war or complain with the same brush. He definitely corrects/qualifies the callers discussion of WMD's, so his unqualified agreement with the caller on phony soldier[u]s means something. Personally, it ain't such a big deal, and it has been overblown. The Dems are trying to make it mirror the "betray us" ad, which while overblown was a calculated, thought out (albeit poorly) advertisement whereas Rush's statement was spontaneous and in conversation. The Move-on ad amounts to more than Rushs statement.” 8:19:32 PM 10/01/07 “Ah, but Ped, in all matters to do with Rush, you have to take his "body of work" into account. This is just the latest in a long line of commentary that will be his own judge and jury. I fail to see this "mastery" you speak of. He is a one-man show who will never debate anyone of substance. Period.” 9:48:51 PM 10/01/07 “The licans may lose their Evenjellyangels to a third potty- Oh my, that'll bring some Ocrats over the fence, but not enough to stop eight more Clintonic years of bliss.” 9:58:07 PM 10/01/07 “Clintonic and gin, please.” 10:06:48 PM 10/01/07 “Rudy's SOL --- Which way will capibara like Limbaugh jump? Somehow he doesn't strike me as a churchgoer. The craven rightwing will be on the outside looking in until after the Rapture.” 10:42:24 PM 10/01/07 “I think Rush is going to be on The Factor tonight. I recommend all Liberals watch this show. That much right wing ideology in one place should make their heads explode.” 3:20:36 AM 10/02/07 “Actually I do listen to Rush sometimes on my car radio. I appreciate his skill and mastery and it is interesting to see how he thinks and spins and sometimes he has good points. Before I was saved from the talk radio prisons by XM Radio I would flip back and forth between Rush and another show. Rush spends more energy trying to spin things that just admitting one from his team screwed up. I think the only thing I've heard him complain about the republicans doing is not fighting back hard enough against the smear campaigns from the left. I much prefer Glenn Beck for talk radio and even though I have XM now I still tune in to him.” 3:33:54 AM 10/02/07 “I bought Sirius Radio just for the talk.” 3:36:44 AM 10/02/07 “meanwhile, a number of phony soldiers continue to serve in iraq, despite misgivings, and carry on the duty of other phony soldiers who evidently were phony heroes and now rest in phony graves...” 6:14:22 AM 10/02/07 “I'm not a Rush defender. I think he's extremely boring to listen to, and is crude (for a conservative). But, you do have to take his show for what it is, a running commentary. It's not a day to day or minute to minute soundbite type of show. He was referring to exactly what had been discussed many times on the show, people who claim to be soldiers, but are not. As the caller brought up, and Rush picked right up on b/c it was his ongoing talking point, he was talking about the fake soldiers - not actually enlisted. Spin it by ignoring that basic fact, but you're ignoring the reality. PS - One thing that made me stop listening to him was his incessant crying about Republicans during the port authority thing and the border thing (even though I agree with him, it was his tone), so somebody who says he doesn't do that is wrong.” 6:19:13 AM 10/02/07 “"he was talking about the fake soldiers - not actually enlisted." Sarge 6:19:13 AM 10/02/07 thats why i cant listen to him. he is constantly talkiing about himself” 6:35:56 AM 10/02/07 “Did you sharpen that nail? LOL” 8:02:20 AM 10/02/07 “I fail to see this "mastery" you speak of. He is a one-man show who will never debate anyone of substance. Period.” Dunadan 9:48:51 PM 10/01/07 Nigal: I haven't heard Beck much. Probably because I scan FM when I drive, unless there is a game on AM I want to hear. Beck is only on AM in my area. I'll have to give him more of a listen. Dunadan: I don't see how the second statement supports the first. I think the second (one-man show....) is pretty close to truth. Would he have such an impact and generate such a following if he was without talent? Would he have recovered so well from his doctor shopping pill addiction scandal if he was without charisma and other talents? Sarge: We're going around in circles. My point is that he was going along with the caller in extending the "phony" taint to everyone who says they are a soldier and speaks out against the war. He was quick to step in and make clarifications on the WMD. Last word is yours if you want it.” 8:03:12 AM 10/02/07 “Thank you Your Honor. By Joe Strupp Published: October 03, 2007 1:30 PM ET NEW YORK Did The Press of Atlantic City, N.J., help drive Mayor Bob Levy into hiding? The mayor, whose falsified claim that he was a Green Beret in Vietnam was exposed by the paper last year, has been essentially missing since Friday. Some wonder if that story, which has not been disputed, sent him on the road to troubled times. Levy's office reported Friday that he had taken a medical leave, his third this year, but did not disclose why or where he went. Many in the casino capital of the east point to his odd behavior ever since the Press revealed that he had lied on campaign literature about being in the special forces unit during his Army career. Now in this city known for its share of political corruption, including a recent city council bribery scandal, a politician lying on his resume might not be considered the spark for a political meltdown. But ever since the paper revealed Levy's lie, reporters say he has slowly withdrawn from political life and remained unreachable by journalists. "The mayor has been unable to get a hold of for most of the last year," said Press Editor Paul Merkoski. "He would show up at some public functions and dash out." Since the paper disclosed his falsified military claim, a recall campaign has started and an investigation launched by the Department of Veterans Affairs to see if Levy improperly used the claim to gain benefits. "Since he was elected, the city has essentially been run by the business administrator and that hasn't changed," said reporter Derek Harper, a six-year Press veteran who broke the original story. "He's a nice guy who just got in over his head." Harper's part in Levy's downfall began two years ago when Levy, a former emergency management coordinator for the city, ran for mayor and won. Harper covered his campaign in which Levy claimed in literature that he had served as a Green Beret in Vietnam. In 2006, months after his election, a veterans group in nearby Egg Harbor contacted Levy in an attempt to have him speak to the group that included other special forces veterans, Harper said. When Levy repeatedly declined, the group's leader said he became suspicious and approached Harper, whom he knew from earlier stories. "He asked around in this group for people who were in special forces and they had no member who knew," Harper recalled, noting he tried to set up a meeting with Levy to discuss it for weeks. "From there, it was a kind of a weird situation," Harper said. "He would not call me back." Finally, during a September 2006 meeting, Harper asked Levy directly about his Green Beret service and he said the mayor declined to answer. "He said 'let all of the detectives waste their time'," Harper recalls. That sent Harper on a document search through online resources and, eventually, a request to the Department of Veterans Affairs that resulted in no record of Levy having been in the special forces unit. When Harper called the mayor for comment, he says his office faxed a letter threatening a lawsuit if such a story were published. Finally, in November, Levy met with the paper and admitted that he had lied about his Green Beret service. The paper, most appropriately, published a lengthy story on Veteran's Day, Nov. 11, 2006. "We held off until we talked to him, maybe two weeks," Editor Merkoski recalls. "He would not talk about it. We finally got him and he admitted it." Both Merkoski and Harper said the initial reaction was tepid, given Atlantic City's corrupt history and the mild severity of the lie. But, as time went on, both said Levy's behavior became more withdrawn. "He took a medical leave in December, then in June, but his office gave reasons for both," Harper said. "Then in January, the federal investigation started and they called asking me for records. I didn’t have anything to give." Several months later, a recall petition was approved and began circulating, but has yet to be submitted. But the final twist came last Friday when the mayor's office reported he was on another medical leave, but did not disclose his whereabouts or the reasons. Council members are trying to find a way to have Levy removed or replaced, Merkoski said. Numerous news outlets, such as the Philadelphia Inquirer and The Star-Ledger of Newark, have cited the Press revelation in stories this week on Levy's disappearance. For the newspaper, coverage has been walking a tightrope, Merkoski said. The paper is aggressively reporting, but realizing the impact its coverage has had. "There might be a point now where you have to be a little sensitive," Merkoski said. "We have cartoons we have held back, like him on a milk carton missing, because we don't know where he is or what his condition is." The editor adds that the paper realized early on it would affect the mayor's future with the revelation, but deemed it important. "We wrestled with it, but we kept going after it because there was a possible story," he said. "It is an unsettling feeling having a reporter pursue something in which [the mayor] lied about his military career." As for Harper, he approaches it like a reporter needing to reveal the truth: "I felt that I've done my job and this is something that was going to get exposed one way or another."” 11:49:35 AM 10/03/07 “Dood, I read that whole boring article and never saw one reference to Rush Limbaugh on crack. You guys who believe Limbaugh are suckers.” 1:53:43 PM 10/03/07 “Radio’s Rush Limbaugh, at war with Democrats over his remark about "phony soldiers," today offered a bold new description for the wounded Iraq veteran whom anti-war veterans have placed in cable TV and radio ads criticizing Limbaugh for his controversial commentary. Suicide bomber. “This is such a blatant use of a valiant combat veteran, lying to him about what I said and then strapping those lies to his belt, sending him out via the media and a TV ad to walk into as many people as he can walk into,’’ Limbaugh said today. Veteran Brian McGough, who appears in the commercial, wrote today: “I stood in the sand, snow, dirt, mud and dust of both Afghanistan and Iraq. I spent over a week on a side of a mountain in Afghanistan during Operation Anaconda. I received The Bronze Star medal for my actions during that battle. I crossed the border into Iraq with the first wave of the 101st Airborne. “I sustained an open head injury on the streets of Mosul after a vehicle borne IED exploded next to the vehicle I was riding in. I have seen the aftermath of a real suicide bomber. I had loved ones who died in the 9/11 attacks. I have friends and colleagues who returned from the war in body bags. “How dare you call someone like me a phony soldier and a suicide bomber? In the commercial I just taped, I told you unless you had the guts to say something to my face, stop telling lies about my service. Well you haven't had the guts to say it to my face, but I am waiting and the offer is still on the table."” 2:15:43 PM 10/03/07 “Source moveon? LOL Why is the cowardy trolll hiding the source.
