Of course it isn't. Perhaps the smartest guy I've ever met in my life, and one of my closest friends in the world is a hard-core conservative. We have disagreements that we debate and sometimes come to just disagree on. Other times, we come to mutual understandings.

As a young broadcaster in the 1970s, Limbaugh once told a black caller: "Take that bone out of your nose and call me back." A decade ago, after becoming nationally syndicated, he mused on the air: "Have you ever noticed how all composite pictures of wanted criminals resemble Jesse Jackson?"

In 1992, on his now-defunct TV show, Limbaugh expressed his ire when Spike Lee urged that black schoolchildren get off from school to see his film Malcolm X: "Spike, if you're going to do that, let's complete the education experience. You should tell them that they should loot the theater, and then blow it up on their way out."

In a similar vein, here is Limbaugh's mocking take on the NAACP, a group with a ninety-year commitment to nonviolence: "The NAACP should have riot rehearsal. They should get a liquor store and practice robberies."

When Carol Moseley-Braun (D-IL) was in the U.S. Senate, the first black woman ever elected to that body, Limbaugh would play the "Movin' On Up" theme song from TV's "Jeffersons" when he mentioned her. Limbaugh sometimes still uses mock dialect -- substituting "ax" for "ask"-- when discussing black leaders.

Come on, people. Limbaugh is an entertainer. He's in a business. Libs take him WAY too serious. They fear him. That's nonsense. Rush does things to keep ratings high, which means he gets more advertising $$. He makes no bones about that. He's a flippin' radio talk show host. He doesn't mold minds of mush like he says... Rush didn't create his audience, his audience liked what he says and so they tune in while nodding their head in agreement with much of what he says. That's it. Libs get pissed off because they can't find enough people in a given market to have a screaming liberal do the same thing. Some local dude in S.F., that's about it for them. Enjoy your NPR while listening, and your CNN and major networks while watching. It's cool. You fear Rush too much. And you fear FOX News too much. Eat, drink, and be merry... for tomorrow we hike. YAAA!

Everytime Rush screws up, I hear from the right: "Rush is an entertainer".

Whenever some leftie politician screws up, it's rush's rhetoric spewed almost verbatim from those same people.

Whatever. the guy annoys me with his small-mindedness. He can't hold a job as a sports commentator, but he's supposed to have some special insight into American politics?!

Please. He's a dope-fiend greedy rightie with a loud mouth, and that's about it.

"Everytime Rush screws up, I hear from the right: "Rush is an entertainer"."

Of course he's an entertainer. What, is he in a political office? If Rush does drugs, well, then say his mind is whacked on drugs and enjoy the thought! :^D

"Whenever some leftie politician screws up, it's rush's rhetoric spewed almost verbatim from those same people."

First of all, that's "Rush" with a capital "R", MISTER! Second, leftie politicians are in a constant state of screwing up. HA HA! Okay, I jest, sort of. Really, mostly. And if Rush rhetoric is spewed, that's because Rush is confirming what his audience thinks, and not the other way around. I don't listen to Rush, but I have heard him once or twice, and he hasn't made me do or think anything I wouldn't have already done so. Does Bernie Ward make people think certain ways, against their normal thinking behavoir? No, liberals listen to Bernie Ward not to be brainwashed, but to listen to a guy that says things they believe in and share the same values and have their own thoughts confirmed, not created. I have spoken.

"Whatever. the guy annoys me with his small-mindedness."

HEY NOW! I thought one of the shining lights of liberalism was "understanding" and "tolerance" of various peoples, religions, thoughts, etc.! Here you are trying to conveniently box up Rush and call him small minded. That's not very open-minded of you. I thought that was a trademark of Conservatives®. Ha!

"Please. He's a dope-fiend greedy rightie with a loud mouth, and that's about it."

That's cool that you think he's a dope-fiend greedy rightie with a loud mouth, it's fine and dandy, but you thinking that about him doesn't change the fact that he has the largest audience and most popular radio program in existence in the solar system, and perhaps the entire Milky Way. We're still awaiting ratings from other galaxies. Maybe Rush even likes guys like you disliking him so much... it's controversial and good for his ratings. Ka-ching!

"There's nothing good about drug use, We know it. It destroys individuals. It destroys families. Drug use destroys societies. Drug use, some might say, is destroying this country. And we have laws against selling drugs, pushing drugs, using drugs, importing drugs. And the laws are good because we know what happens to people in societies and neighborhoods which become consumed by them. And so if people are violating the law by doing drugs, they ought to be accused and they ought to be convicted and they ought to be sent up."

NEW YORK — Radio talk show host and political commentator Rush Limbaugh stunned listeners Friday when he admitted that he is addicted to painkillers.

"You know I have always tried to be honest with you and open about my life," Limbaugh said on his program. "So I need to tell you today that part of what you have heard and read is correct. I am addicted to prescription pain medication."

Limbaugh said he began taking the medication "some years ago" when his doctor prescribed it after spinal surgery, to treat post-operation pain.

His back pain stemming from the surgery persisted, so Limbaugh said he started taking pills and became hooked.

He said he's tried to break his dependence on the drugs and twice checked himself into medical facilities for treatment.

He promised listeners he would once again enter rehab for the next 30 days, immediately following Friday's broadcast, "to once and for all break the hold this highly addictive medication has on me."

Limbaugh didn't mention what specific painkiller he was hooked on.

The radio host had already been cited as a possible target of a criminal probe into the sale and use of illegal drugs.

Limbaugh, who quit his job as a football analyst for ESPN Oct.1, had multiple sources from whom he could obtain the prescription drugs, namely OxyContin and other painkillers, law enforcement sources said last week.

Reports in the New York Daily News and the National Enquirer alleged Limbaugh got the drugs from his housekeeper, Wilma Cline.

Sources close to the investigation told Fox News that Limbaugh had other drug suppliers and said the popular conservative personality could face a criminal inquiry by the Palm Beach County state attorney's office.

Limbaugh acknowledged the drug probe on Friday.

"At the present time, the authorities are conducting an investigation, and I have been asked to limit my public comments until this investigation is complete," Limbaugh said on his program.

Fox News' Catherine Donaldson-Evans and The Associated Press contributed to this report.

It takes two and both should be held responsable for their actions.

VIRGINIA BEACH, Virginia (AP) -- Religious broadcaster Pat Robertson urged his nationwide audience Monday to pray for God to remove three justices from the Supreme Court so they could be replaced by conservatives.

"We ask for miracles in regard to the Supreme Court," Robertson said on the Christian Broadcasting Network's "The 700 Club."

For a guy who made a living off moral witchhunts and preaching at others on how to live the high moral life he deserves nothing but scorn for his hypocracy.
I dont see how anybody who's been a fan and agrees with his anti-social,right wing propaganda could make an exception and forgive him for this most immoral behavior. To do so would be...Oh,so 'liberal'.

Maybe one moral of this story is to take people who are so black and white in their judgement, people who will constantly tell you that their side is 100% beyond reproach and the sole source of morality, people who tell you without a shadow of a doubt that those who disagree with their viewpoint are ignorant, evil, and stupid, well if you hear people like this, you have an obligation to take what they say with a very small grain of salt. That is just one aspect of this story.
Read about McCarthy and his moralistic witch hunts. The loudmouths do fall hard, don't they?

For the most part, ped, I agree with that. My beef with the guy has been his influence on gullible types who seem to believe his (now proven to be hypocritical) rhetoric down to the word. By pointing out his OWN stance on drug use and the fact he couldn't live up to it, I'm hoping that somewhere along the line these otherwise good people will realize that Rush can't do all the thinking for them.

In fact, considering his opinions have been formed under the influence of drugs for the last several years, I can't see how anyone could take him seriously as a political analyst at ALL.
