Swedish Alcohol StoveView MessagesViewing posts 1 to 25 of 25 messages posted.
camping / backpacking stove “There is a new quantity of the little brass Swedish alcohol stoves on E-Bay. They are going from 10-$15.00 each. I have two of these little gems and they are well worth the investment. Extremely light and work far better than Sterno. They work very well with the little folding Sterno stove kit from Wal Mart. If for nothing else, it makes a good backup to your regular stove ensamble. Just thought you might like to know.” 6:41:47 PM 9/09/02 “you have a link??” 6:42:42 PM 9/09/02 “www.ebay.com and put in "alcohol stove" in the search button. There are several. Some include the mess kit that was the original issue. This is kinda like our Army Surplus. Remember, this is BRASS and not some flimsy tin thingy.” 6:50:22 PM 9/09/02 “I bet the chef from the Muppets uses one when he backpacks. Bork! Bork! Bork!” 6:58:48 PM 9/09/02 Hubba Hubba “Does a hot Swedish blonde come with every stove?” 7:43:25 PM 9/09/02 10:38:29 PM 9/09/02 good stove / pot combo “You can do better than e-bay at your local surplus stores, they sell the complete kit for less than $10 www.sportsmansguide.com has it for that,I got mine beginning of the summer for $8, it has 2 pots, one 3 cup, the other 7, windscreen/stand, burner with sealable lid, and fuel bottle. The burner alone is 5 oz, and the whole kit with fuel is just over 2 lbs. The kit has markings that say it was made by svea, so you know it isn't just a piece of crap, the burner is made like a pepsi stove made bombproof, it's tough enough you can stand on it. I've been using it off and on through the summer, so far I like it, just have to see how it works in cold weather though, boiling from 70 degree water is easy, I want to see how it melts snow.” 2:51:34 AM 9/10/02 “I bought one of those kits a year or so ago. Built like a tank (It IS Mil surplus) and a good buy IF you don't care about weight. This thing is HEAVY. Made from steel, not aluminun. Gave it to my car camping nephew. He loved it.” 11:13:14 AM 9/10/02 “The Trangia burner kick ass! I used it last weekend in 30-degree temps. It wouldn't light but it comes with a screw cap. I filled it up with dn alcohol, popped it in my pocket for two minutes to warm the alcohol and the sucker lit right up. Never fails.” 11:47:47 AM 9/10/02 Here is the e-bay link for the best photo “http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=1857190137&rd=1 I talked with this guy and he bought over a thousand of these little kits at a surplus auction. So, if you like e-bay, you will see several from different folks and maybe even get one for less than 5 bucks. Just keep looking and bid your bottom dollar. If that gets outbid, just wait on the next one to pop up. He says they are brass or brass plated steel. He is not sure.” 1:33:13 PM 9/10/02 “Yes. That is the trangia. That pot holder looks way too heavy for my tastes tho. Make one out of builder's mesh.” 1:35:59 PM 9/10/02 “Gonna stick with my trusty Pepsi can stove. It rules. Geobeet” 2:37:06 PM 9/10/02 That is not a"trangia" “Those stove burners are not trangia brand like MSR sold a while back. The brass burner is constructed like a trangia BUT the brand name on the set I bought was "trancia" rather than "trangia". It's a knockoff. Here's the one I got” 2:48:52 PM 9/10/02 “Ahhhhhh... Que interesante, Senior StoveStomper.” 3:03:56 PM 9/10/02 “I almost ordered one until I saw the shipping charge.” 3:14:42 PM 9/10/02 “Gimp, you're a limping contradiction!” 3:28:00 PM 9/10/02 “They look like Trangia and probably are made by Trangia but I believe the burner is a bit larger.” 4:19:41 PM 9/10/02 Rosey, GS “It might be the military version made by trangia, who knows. The set I got was made for the Swedish military. The cookpot and stand are HEAVY steel and the burner is brass. I have a mini-trangia (model 28-5) set also and the trangia burner that came with it is a little smaller (weight with lid 3.2 oz) than the one that came with the swedish set. The fit and finish is better on the "real" trangia. I outsmarted myself when I bought the surplus set. I really only wanted a trangia burner. I saw the "trancia" set on the net and it was marked down to like $3. I said to myself "These bozos don't know what they have! They can't spell! What a bargain! A trangia burner for $3!" I ordered it and when I got it, the ad was correct. The burner had "trancia" stamped into the bottom. I was so ticked off with myself I picked up the phone and called REI and ordered myself a "real" mini-trangia set for $30+.” 5:44:18 PM 9/10/02 Pepsi Can Stove “Well, just for fun yesterday, I made the above mentioned stove. I am pretty impressed with it as a novelity item...... BUT, I can see where it would really fill the bill if the main stove failed. I perked a 6 cup coffee pot in less than 10 minutes and that sold me right there. I can see how this can be easily adapted to larger versions, windscreens, etc. But, I like this little Swedish thingy much gooder !!! Just my dos centavos . .. . ..” 6:01:37 PM 9/10/02 “how much does the Sweedish set up weigh?” 7:02:33 PM 9/10/02 different models? “As reported earlier, mine is the swedish surplus stove, the burner is pure brass, 6 1/2 oz., the windscreen/stand is 7 1/4 oz., the bigger pot is 11 3/4 oz., the smaller pot is 6 1/4 oz., and the supplied fuel bottle is 1/2 oz., empty. the pots and windscreen are made of aluminum, with steel wires for the bails and folding supports for the pot, but definately aluminum, not steel. My burner doesn't look like a trangia either, and everything is stamped with the imperial crown and svea, so I don't know if those ones marked trancia are really just cheap knock-offs?” 7:28:42 PM 9/10/02 eBay Stoves “ I saw the post about the Swedish Stoves I sell on eBay, here's a link Swedish Alcohol Stove: http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=1857190137 To clarify a couple of things, the stoves are all brass (except for the rubber gasket in the lid) most are are marked "svea", some have "trangia" and some "HP". The one mark they all have in common on the bottom is the stamp of three crowns. I do have the aluminum cook sets / wind screens that comes with the stoves but they are on the heavy side so I have just been selling the stoves & fuel bottle. These are Swiss army surplus with little or no sign of the stove have being been used. |
