Fantasy Hockey”

“OK, I'll try to explain and walk you all through the process. The purpose of Fantasy Hockey is to draft a team of NHL players to "play" on your team at specific positions. Depending on how well those players and your managing skills are will determine your placement in the league standings each week.

First go to the link Tango posted above and sign up. When queried what kind of league to join click the private league button. You will then prompted to enter the League ID# and password. Now you're in. Make up a team name for your team. You can change the team name at any time so don't think to much about it.

Exact Draft Time: Friday, September 27 at 6:20 pm PDT - This is date and time we will all enter a "draft room" to pick our players for the season. The draft starts exactly at this time whether you're there or not. If you can not make the draft Yahoo will draft players from your pre-ranked list of players as they are available. It is best to be there!

Draft Type: Live - This means a LIVE draft. Managers should present in the java enabled draft room. We can chat with each other and pick our players when our turn arrives. I think you are allowed 1:00 to make a decision on which player you want or Yahoo will automatically select player according to your pre-ranked list.

Maximum Number of Teams: 12 - This league will have 12 managers. For instance, you will be a manager, I will be a manager, ect...

Maximum Players on a Team: 16 - At the end of the draft you will have drafted 16 players to fill your roster comprised of various positions.

Maximum Moves: No maximum - You may adjust your daily lineup, pick up free agents, trade, as much as your heart desires.

Scoring Type: Head-to-Head League - There are two types of scoring. Rotissiere and Head to Head. This league is H2H and means each week you play against another manager/team. In Rotissiere leagues, you play against each team on a weekly basis. H2H is more competitve.

Waiver Time: 2 days - Waiver time is the amount of time a player is on waivers. For instance, say somebody drops a player from their roster. This player is then on waivers and anyone can pick him up. The manager with the favorable waiver priority number will acquire him. After two days and this player has not been picked up he goes on the free agency list.

Last Trade Date: Wednesday, March 12 - This is the date by which trades are no longer allowed between managers. The date is here to prevent last place managers from trading their better players to their friends who may be in contention for a title.

Trade Reject Time: 2 days - If you offer a trade to another manager and it goes unanswered for two days that trade is null and void.

Minimum Games: 3 - This relates to your goalies. Your goalies must make an appearance in three games during the week. If your goalies do not make 3 appearances you will lose all points posted by your goalies. Don't let this happen. EVER!

Roster Changes: Daily - You may change your roster on daily basis. Lets say you think your center is going to have a tough day against a certain goalie, you place a different center in his roster spot.

Starting Positions: C, C, LW, LW, RW, RW, D, D, D, D, G, G, IR - These are the starting positions in your lineup. C=center, LW-left wing, RW=right wing, D=defenseman, G=goalie, IR= Injure reserve (does not play)”

“Statistical Categories (Forwards/Defenseman): - These are the categories by which your team garners points. At the end of the playing week your categories will be compared to your opponents categories to decipher a winner. Ties do occur.

Goals: 1 point for each goal a player on your active roster scores.

Assists: 1 points for each assist a player on your active roster assists.

Plus/Minus - Players are awarded +/- points for being on the ice when a goal is made for their HHL team or against them.

Penalty Minutes - You are awarded for a players misconduct. If you have a couple of enforcers on your team who always fighting and sitting in the penalty box you acquire their penalty minutes. It's a good thing but don't go to overboard with it.

Game-Winning Goals - If a player on your active roster shoots the game-winning game in real life, you are awarded a point.

Shooting Percentage - Tallied percentage of all your active players for the week whom took a shot on goal and either made a goal or missed.

Face off Won and Loss - Forget this. I'm going to delete this category. Just too much chance involved.

Statistical Categories (Goalies): Wins - Your team will be awarded a point if your fantasy goalie's real team wins the game. Goalie must be in goal during the real game.

Losses - Same as above.

Goals Against Average - This some whacked out mathematical equation but it's important. Basically, if your goalie has a low GAA he's good.

Save Percentage - The percentage of shots saved/shots made.

Shutouts - If your active fantasy goalie doesn't allow any goals during the game resulting in shutout you get a point. One of the rarer stats to get but if it happens you will also score well in GAA, Save percentage, and wins. Not as rare as a no hitter but still a great stat.

However, when I went to sign up, the terms kept referring to the yahoo premium services and the need to have a yahoo wallet. What is the cost for the premium service? I wasn't able to find that anywhere.”

“sunshine, go to your team page and click on "edit rankings". From there you just move players from the default rankings list into yours. Once you get the players you want to your box you can move them up or down in the order you want to select them. Hope that helps a little.”
