The Flames' Been Snuffed...
Sad day for most Canadians...I actually knew a few people that wanted TB to win...the Calgary Flames have losted 2 to 1.

Flames played terribly for 2 and a 1/2 periods. As I mentioned on the Lord Stanley thread....they only woke up after a powerplay goal...a penalty to the Bolts that wasn't warranted in my opinion.

They played frantic hockey for a couple of shifts, got a penalty for highsticking....and then time ran out.

Congrats to the TB team and their fans.

Hope there's still hockey next season!!!!

Gosh, darn it! missed the game last night!!

I even made a special trip into town to my girl-friend's apartment to see it cuz I can't get tv reception where I'm at (don't have cable or satellite cuz I'm cheap!)
Guess I was distracted by my supper partner...

Both the Tampon Bay-Flutters series and the Tampon Bay-Killgory series were great hockey of a type I have not seen in years.

The Flams came on like gangbusters late in the game and made a go of it, but it was too little too late and the Lightning were up for it and not to be denied. Hats off to a great team that beat two other great teams in fantastic series.

Yes, let's hope somebody comes to their senses and realizes that they need to ride the crest of the wave those two series created.

Hall of Fame (2 Penguins?)
When the Hockey Hall of Fame announces its 2004 inductees today, two notable former Penguins defensemen could be among the names called.
Paul Coffey is as close as it gets to a guaranteed selection, while Larry Murphy's name will also draw serious consideration. The most conspicuous of those players eligible for nomination for the first time this year is Boston Bruins legend Ray Bourque. Players eligible this year are those who retired following the 2000-01 season.

A maximum of four players can be inducted per year.

Coffey was a member of the Penguins' 1991 Stanley Cup winning team and totaled 108 goals and 332 assists for 440 points in 331 regular-season games as well as four goals and 22 assists in 23 playoff games from 1987-92. He finished his career with 396 goals and 1,135 assists for 1,531 points in 1,409 regular-season games.

Murphy was a member of not only the 1991 Cup team but also the 1992 team, totaling 78 goals and 223 assists for 301 points in 336 career regular-season games with the Penguins from 1990-1995. He added another 15 goals and 57 assists in 74 playoff games. Over the span of his 21-year career, he totaled 287 goals and 929 assists for 1,216 points in 1,615 regular season games.

Bourque and Coffey should get in easily. Not sure about Murphy, but he was no slouch.

Here they are!!!
The Hockey Hall of Fame Selection Committee announced on Wednesday their four new selections who will be inducted into the Hockey Hall of Fame this November in Toronto. The three players -- Ray Bourque, Paul Coffey and Larry Murphy -- will take their place alongside the game's greats after making a name for themselves on defense in the NHL during their storied careers.

No they're still not playing. That's over (boo hoo). The draft is Saturday (like the NFL draft). Then everything is done till late September. With training camps starting.
Tango

6/22/04

Uh...No. The Pens are probably going to get cleaned up, again. Even with 12 draft picks most of them will be skating with Wilkes-Barre/Scranton. Of course, they could move the entire baby Pens team up the the NHL and they might have a shot.
Silent J

6/22/04

If there is a season--Watch out, those Pens will kick butt! Now that they have some real NHL experience. They were much better than the record indicates. Believe me I watched most every game! It seemed to me they didn't have puck sense (that's what I call it, anyway). Meaning they always didn't know where the puck was on the ice. And of course our goaltending was not up to par. But Mario will be back and with Ryan Malone, Rico, Kostantine WATCH OUT BABY!!!
Tango

6/22/04

As a pens fan I can't help but feel Mario should bow out and let somebody step up to fill his shoes. I admired the guy but the injuries are just going to get worse and I hate to watch a legend flounder in his final years. I do think Fleury did good his first year though and has the potential that pittsburgh needs. He was a step up from Hedberg if you ask me.

I just heard that the talk is either Kovalev, Zhamnov and Recchi for the Penguins. I am kinda mad a Kovy trying to get the moola! Don't really know anything about Zhamnov. So I want Recchi (of course) And it will be the Pens 2nd time getting him back, if they do!
Tango

6/30/04

Zhamnov came in with glowing press, but I got the impression he was more of a journeyman player than a star. I was less than ecstatic. Recchi, on the other hand, is a sparkplug, and he really stepped it up for the playoffs.

Sorry G-babe
The signature isn't on the dotted line yet, but general manager Craig Patrick got the ball rolling Thursday in his attempt to bring unrestricted free agent Mark Recchi back to the Penguins.

Recchi and Mario Lemieux are close, and spend time together during the offseason.

"It's not uncommon to see them all in the gym together or on the golf course together," Curran said. "It's not a surprise to recognize that it has the potential to be a good fit."

RECCHI RETURNS TO PENGUINS
Even sorrier for ya G-babe

The Penguins have agreed to terms with free agent right wing Mark Recchi on a multi-year contract, it was announced today by General Manager Craig Patrick. In accordance with club policy terms of the contract were not released.

Yeah, I heard all about it. Sad news for us; good news for Mark and Waddles fans. Clarkie didn't want to sign him because of the potential lock-out, or so his story goes.

Mark was just the leading scorer last season and overall for the past two or three seasons. Du-uh!

Tango is on the road, but I will catch up with her at Ithaca.

Tango, your old/new guy:
Recchi the specialist

New Pittsburgh Penguin and classy ex-Flyer Mark Recchi was a surprise attendee at the 5th annual Gene Hart Memorial Golf Outing on Monday at historic Philadelphia Cricket Club, especially since he recently underwent arthroscopic elbow surgery. Unable to make full swings, Recchi was

reduced to putting/chipping specialist in the outing, which became an unofficial goodbye to many

Flyers friends and fans.

"It's a strange feeling, knowing I might not see some of these friends for a while," Recchi said. "I wanted to do this for Lauren [Hart], and knowing Gene very well, I wanted to be here."

He said it has been a hectic time for him since signing with buddy Mario Lemieux's Penguins. "It was a lot harder [changing teams] this time," he said. "I love it here."

Chelios a bad boy
The Las Vegas Review-Journal reported that Red Wings defenseman Chris Chelios was kicked out of a popular restaurant Saturday.

The paper said Chelios was escorted out of FIX after a plate-smashing binge while dining with Hollywood producer Jerry Bruckheimer, tennis star Jennifer Capriati, actors Cuba Gooding Jr. and Alan Thicke and NHL players Sergei Fedorov, Luc Robitaille and Marty McSorley.

A FIX publicist said Chelios "explained to management that it was OK because he was Greek, but it didn't fly." Chelios was referring to a Greek tradition of plate breaking.

After cooler heads prevailed, Chelios was allowed to rejoin his pals, who were in town for Bruckheimer's annual Bad Boys of Hockey weekend outing.

the ECHL is pretty cool too and is growing. My hometown, Reading, PA has a new hockey team, the Royals and they are playing some pretty exciting hockey and it was only their third season. Got pretty far n the playoffs. They have a nice arena there in center city Reading on Penn Street.
