He says the coaching will not be as big a factor with the new rules because the game will be faster. The defense will be hard pressed not to make a mistake because it will result in a breakaway. Also, smaller, more agile goalies will have an advantage with the smaller equipment.” 2:07:19 PM 8/27/05 Hockey GOONS going at it..... “"I'm in. Prepare for a beat down. LOL"-Pantscandy Talk about beat-down. The goons started their boxing matches in full hockey gear, yesterday in B.C. Hockey have really went downhill.....” 1:48:01 AM 8/28/05 “Only 10 days until the draft. Let's fill up this league!!!” 1:04:15 PM 9/05/05 “Yeah, let's fill it up -- 15 spots still remain. Also, if you're playing, you should take some time to pre-rank your player selections in case you can't make the actual draft, so that players can be assigned to you based on your rankings and availability.” 5:35:47 PM 9/05/05 “you guys need to start a thread for the league” 6:00:54 PM 9/05/05 “Go Flyers!” 6:09:08 PM 9/05/05 “Yeah, I'm with ENS. A new thread is needed for the Hockey League. Get it on it PS! :)” 6:48:59 PM 9/05/05 10:39:55 PM 9/05/05 Oh NO! “This should make for an interesting season for the Devils. Devils' Defenseman Scott Stevens Retires Holds NHL Record for Most Games Played by a Defenseman East Rutherford, NJ – Defenseman Scott Stevens, who captained the Devils to three Stanley Cup Championships over the last 11 seasons, announced his retirement today as an active player. He will remain with the organization in a yet to be determined role. “Scott Stevens is one of the most respected players to ever play in the National Hockey League,” said Devils' CEO/President/General Manager Lou Lamoriello. “Scott gave 100-percent in every practice and every game, and epitomized professionalism both on and off the ice. He gave the New Jersey Devils 13 great seasons, and the National Hockey League 22 great years. We look forward to having him remain within the organization.” Stevens' career spanned 22 seasons with Washington, St. Louis, and New Jersey. He posted 196 goals and 712 assists for 908 points and 2,785 penalty minutes in 1,635 career games, including 93 goals and 337 assists for 430 points and 1,007 penalty minutes in 956 games with the Devils. Stevens is one of just three players in history to appear in 600 games with two separate teams. He passed his former Capitals' teammate Larry Murphy (1,615) for most appearances by a defenseman in NHL history on November 26, 2003 . Stevens' games played total is fourth all-time, trailing only Gordie Howe, Mark Messier, and Ron Francis among all players. He holds the NHL record for most career playoff games by a defenseman (233), while his 20 years in the playoffs are tied for second all-time. In leading the Devils to the 2003 Stanley Cup, Stevens participated in his NHL record-tying 13th career game seven. He has appeared in 879 regular-season games in which his team has been victorious, the most in NHL history. Stevens ranks second on the Devils' all-time games played list, third all-time in assists, and tied for sixth in points. He posted a career-high 78 points and league-leading plus-53 mark in 1993-94, becoming the only defenseman ever to lead New Jersey in scoring. Stevens' 18 goals that season are the most by a defenseman in team history, while his 60 assists still stand as the club's single-season record. In 2000, he became just the seventh defenseman to receive the Conn Smythe Trophy as playoff MVP, leading the team to its second of three championships. Stevens was named to the NHL's First All-Star Team following the 1987-88 and 1993-94 seasons, the league's Second All-Star Team three times, while appearing in 13 mid-season All-Star Games, serving as captain in 2003. He was also named to the NHL All-Rookie Team in 1982-83. Stevens was acquired by New Jersey from St Louis on September 3, 1991 as compensation for the Blues' signing of free agent forward Brendan Shanahan. He appeared in 78 games with St. Louis in 1990-91, while serving as the team captain. Stevens began his NHL career in 1982 with Washington, and remained with the team for eight seasons through 1989-90. He was Washington's first choice, and fifth overall selection in the 1982 Entry Draft. Stevens also played for the Memorial Cup-winning Kitchener Rangers in 1981-82. His international experience included the 1998 Olympic Winter Games, the 1996 World Cup, the 1991 Canada Cup, and four World Championship tournaments. NHL All-Rookie Team (1983). NHL First AlL-Star Team (1988, 1994). NHL Second All-Star Team (1992, 1997, 2001). Won Alka-Seltzer Plus Award (1994). Played in NHL All-Star Game (1985, 1989, 1991 to 1994, 1996 to 2001, 2003). Won Conn Smythe Trophy (MVP in Playoffs) (2000). Signed as a free agent by St. Louis, July 12, 1990. Acquired by DEVILS from St. Louis as compensation for Brendan Shanahan, September 3, 1991.” 3:27:34 PM 9/07/05 “lumberzac, are you signed up for the TT league?
