Nice try, Jaromir
Jagr got called for trying to play the puck while he was still on the bench. Doh!

Then he got nailed for too many men on the ice when he failed to get off on a shift change.

Both penalties gave the Flyers a two-man advantage, but they chose those precise minutes to put on an awesome display of their passing prowess. Awesome as it was, you have to shoot the friggin puck in rder to score.

Darius is behaving himself. Does he have the flu or what?

Da Wings have already chased Lalime and are up 5-1.....still in da second period.

Brodeur was spectacular, just totally amazing. Pens lost 5-1. Thibault looks like a fish on ice. I'm not kidding. OMG!

Well crap. The Flyers took the third period off. Rangers came from behind to win it 5-3 and Jagr woke up and scored two of those goals.

Evidently their demonstration of superior passing techniques mesmerized their defense and Esche.

Weekes played a very solid game in net for the Broadway Blues. He was not rattled during those two-man advantages.

Tango, I wish you had been at the game yelling "Flyers suck!" The fans were dead. They didn't even boo when the team was flatter than the logo painted on the ice. Forsberg looked like an old man out there. Not the way to start the season.

So Sidney got his first NHL goal. How many more will follow?

Wish I could have seen that game. I ended up having to watch the Flyers Rangers game. I didn't care who won as long as it wasn't the Rangers. Of course the Rangers ended up having to win.

Surprise?
Rangers top the Flyers 5-3. Folks, these ain't yo' daddy's Rangers, and only 6 of their players were on the roster 2 years ago, and their work ethic is the best it has been in like the last decade (as the Flyers just found out the hard way...)

Btw, I'm glad I got Jagr on my fantasy team...

Rangers did indeed work their butts off, and they did not lay down when the chips were down.

Wings look like the Wings of old.....5-1 score, 5 different scorers....Shanny was a big presence---they need that from him for a change.

Blues again tomorrow night!

Tango, did you watch the opening festivities for the Hurricanes/Lightning game? The Stanley Cup was on the ice and the Bolts hoisted their '04 Stanley Cup Championship banner. Great stuff!!!!!!

I saw an excerpt of it. Yeah, it looked like a great game.

I like the new hockey! It will be great when the players settle with the new rules. I think it will be a great wide open end to end play. And there were mucho mucho shots on goal. LOVE IT!!!

Somebody tell the Flutters. In a one-minute two-man advantage, they took not one shot on goal. But they sure can pass the puck nice.

JUST SHOOT THE PUCK! Even a "dirty" goal is better than no goal.

Really. If they get on goal the score is 4-1 and maybe the Rangers don't come back. Instead, the door is open and the Rangers pull to 3-2 before the period ends. The Flyers don't show up for the third and the rest is history. You have to play the whole game! And when you have a two-man advantage, you have to find a way to get the puck in.

I don't get it either. From a conditioning standpoint I could understand Forsberg, but everyone else should be good to go. Also Obstruction penalties are not call if you use your stick to lift an opponent's stick. Had Pitkanen done that, the one goal wouldn't have occured. Hopefully Hatcher can help
Ox

Pitkanen is a work in progress. Phantoms fans last season got on him because he didn't seem to want to hit or mix it up. They thought he was a bonus baby saving it for the show. He also has a tendency to want to skate with the puck - not pass or shoot. Whenever he does that, somebody with a different color jersey takes it off him as easily as snatching candy out of the hands of a little kid.

So you have a defenseman who doesn't hit, who hands the puck over because he can't get it through his thick head that he's supposed to pass it or shoot.

And with all that, he's still a plus player. He does get assists, and sometimes he comes up with the puck in the other team's zone. He's a bit enigmatic. About the time I get done cussing him he does something good, and before the praise dies out he screws something up. Unless he shows improvement this season, I'm gussing Clarkie will likely move him out west.

Another win over the Blues tonight! Four different scorers, Lang gets his second of the year.

That was the idea last year, Ox. He was better by the end of the year than at the beginning and a plus player. Still, on opening night, we find him ragging the puck when they needed to score goals. They probably have to hang onto him at least until Hatcher finishes serving his suspension.

I wouldn't doubt they send him to Nashville. Seems like Nashville loves Philly's "not good enough" players. In the years I spent there, it always seemed like Nashville got the lesser Philly players (Delmore, Eaton, and most recently Markov)
Ox

The problem seems to be mental mistakes, and even with that he's still a plus player. So I would not be so quick to send him off on the one hand, but the question needs to be answered whether he ever will learn.

Thanks lz, I was curious because I hadn't heard. Never really liked the guy (he was a thorn in the Wings' side when he was with the Blues) but he was a good player and a tough SOB. He's no Chelios though: 44 year old and still out there!

Flyers are now up by 2.

Check that---they're now up by 3!

The Flyers played like the Flyers. Even Joni Pitkanen played better. Niittykmaki was solid in goal, wearing his Phantoms mask from last season. He's now 4-0 in the NHL.

Brashear waited till late in the game to lower the boom on Marshall. And did he ever. I think Gomez spent more time in the bin than he did on the ice. Somebody needs to tell him he's not a big guy. Nothing like losing the fight and getting two on top of it.

The game should have been 6-2. The goal they disallowed was in before the whistle blew.

Oh yeah Tango, Recchi and LeClair are going to really help the Waddles!
