“Unfortunately, injuries and age are catching up with John. I expect he'll retire before the season ends. He never gave less than 100 percent, and I can't imagine he would stick around if he can't play to the level he always did.

“Why didn't Recchi shoot the damn puck instead of passing it back to Crosby? Crosby gave him a great feed. He had the angle. A wrist shot in the upper corner would have won the game. Instead he passes it back to Crosby, who by that time had no angle or time to shoot.”

The trick for the Pens is to look to the future. Get that young Sydney kid ready to lead the team they will build around him. He can learn a lot from those veteran players, assuming they start to shoot the puck when they have a shot.

That has to be the dumbest play I've ever seen from Mark Recchi. Sydney had no angle at all, and the announcers didn't even say a word about that play. Yikes ... that could have been the game! Those opportunities don't come along every five seconds. And the winning goal was a desparation shot - more like hammering away. I felt sorry for the goalie because there was nothing he could do.

The Pens' defense sucks. The goalie should take them to Family Court and sue them for non support. He should be awarded back support too.”

Tellqvist was outstanding in the net for the Leafs last night. He's the backup for Bellfour, and that could change if he keeps playing like he did last night.

Great Acting Alert: Donald Brashear got called for two last night after Darcy Tucker went down and was crying for his mama on the ice. Replay showed barely any contact at all. Brashear was heading to the bench and Tucker was coming on the ice. I'm not sure they even touched.

After Brashear was ensconced in the box, he sat there shaking his head while Tucker continued his act. They helped the stricken player to the bench, where towels sopped up the tears and pats on the back helped assuage the pain. I almost expected Quinn to kiss the booboo.

But miracles do happen. Tucker recovered from his life threatening injuries in time for his next shift, and before the period ended somehow managed to fight off the intense pain and score a goal.

I'd like to see if Kerry Fraser would like to purchase a nice bridge. I bet he would.”
