Question: How is it that Pittsburgh is in the Atlantic Division, but Boston is not?

Wow! Ed Snider's outburst sure did shake up the Flutters. They only lost by 4-1 last night.

NHL | Russian club sues to stop MalkinAssociated Press
A Russian hockey club filed an antitrust lawsuit yesterday against the NHL and the Pittsburgh Penguins, saying rookie Evgeni Malkin shouldn't be allowed to play in the league because he remains under contract in his native country.

The Metallurg Magnitogorsk hockey club, which filed the lawsuit in U.S. District Court in Manhattan, also demanded unspecified damages from the NHL and the Penguins over Malkin's deal to jump teams this summer.

NHL spokesman Frank Brown said he hadn't seen a copy of the complaint and couldn't comment. Penguins spokesman Tom McMillan said the team hadn't received the lawsuit and doesn't comment on litigation.

The 20-year-old Malkin left the Russian Super League team during August's training camp in Helsinki, Finland, slipping quietly into the United States to begin his NHL career. In his debut Wednesday night, Malkin scored his team's lone goal in a 2-1 loss to the New Jersey Devils.

Malkin was under contract for another year in Russia. The NHL had previously said the league believes any player should have the right to choose where he wants to play as long as he is legally free to do so.

After Malkin left his Russian team, he cited a Russian labor law that permits an employee to leave a job by giving two weeks' notice.

The lawsuit, filed after a Russian arbitration panel ruled that Malkin is still under contract to Magnitogorsk, said the signing of Malkin to an NHL contract was a "blatant and deliberate tampering and interference" with the Russian team's agreement.

In the lawsuit, the team said the Penguins knew or should have known that Malkin, the No. 2 pick in the 2004 NHL draft, was under contract to a Russian team. The lawsuit said the NHL and the Penguins violated antitrust laws by conspiring in a group boycott and refusing to deal with Russian hockey clubs regarding player transfers.

Malkin and Magnitogorsk signed a one-year deal on Aug. 7, calling for Malkin to receive $3.45 million, according to the lawsuit.

Actually it’s good to see them doing well (unless they’re playing the Devils). Weren’t the Sabers close to folding a few years ago due to poor attendance to games? With the way they played last year and the way they’re playing right now I can’t see them going back into the red anytime soon.

They were owned by Adelphia Cable and the company experienced a bit of a financial scandal that left them ownerless for a bit. the league considered moving them to a larger market and rumors are always floating. But Buffalo fans are as rabidly loyal as Philly fans so attendance was never really a major issue.

Malkin also scored in the first period, beating Dan Cloutier with a wrist shot, to become the first NHL player in 89 years with goals in his first six games. The 20-year-old Russian joined Joe Malone, Newsy Lalonde and Cy Denneny, who each scored in their first six games during the NHL’s inaugural season in 1917-18.

Doing some research on hat tricks...
Mario Lemieux once accomplished what was unofficially referred to as a "Mario Lemieux hat trick" in 1993, by receiving radiation treatment for Hodgkin's lymphoma the day of the game, and then scoring a goal and an assist that night against the Philadelphia Flyers.

He has also recorded a "5-Goal Hat Trick" or the "Ultimate Hat Trick", in which he scored in all five possible game situations in one game. He scored on a Powerplay, shorthanded, even strength, penalty shot and an empty net goal. Lemieux is the only player to have done this in NHL history.

LEMIEUX IS A GOD!!!!
