It's Hockey Season!!

“It was a good game. The Pens got away with one there. They were outplayed the entire game but the Sabres just couldn't find the back of the net.”

“Really? I think the Pens killed them in the first period, but fell in the 2nd and 3rd.”

“I thought the first period was pretty even. Pens had two more shots on goal and spent some time on the power play but they really never got moving. It may have seemed lopsided because the Pens scored so quickly.

Either way the Sabres have got to start winning those games. Can't let teams hang around when you've got your heel on their throats like that.”

“I'm gonna go to the Redwings game on Thursday. I've never been to an away game before, should be fun! Go Wild!”

“I went to my first hockey game a couple weekends ago! It was sort of scary the first time they slammed each other into the side...LOL! I didn't realize how loud and violent it would be. And then the refs let them fight...I couldn't believe it!! I guess they only make them stop once someone falls on the ground. It was pretty cool though, and after awhile you kind of get used to the violence. Fun times!”

The Flyers are all abuzz about the hit Laraque made on Downie last night. Seems a bit strange to me considering we've had three players suspended this season already for virtually the same kind of hit.

In last night's hit, Laraque took Downie into the boards while Downie was bent down, so his head crashed into the boards hard. He went down in a heap and for moments seemed to be in trouble, but he eventually got up and went off the ice. Later in the game he was back and dropped his gloves in another altercation, and this time Downie was sent off the ice because his jersey wasn't fastened down properly.

I don't think the hit was intented to hurt Downie. The Flyers called it a good hit when their players were caught, so they can't very well gripe over this one, but they did.

It's the old saw. When it's their guy, he's a goon. When it's your guy, he's just playing aggressively.
