They're still my sentimental favourite. My first TV memories are watching the Bruins, on Hockey Night in Canada, on that new fangled colour television. My grandfather was born in Boston, so he and Dad were big Bruins fans, before the Canucks formed up, in 1970.”

“Didn't see the game so I can't say. No, I'm from Fluttersland. I spent a weekend in Montreal back in the mid-70s after the Flyers first cup and was looking for a pennant for my kids. I wanted something uniquely Canadian. The proprietor of the shop proudly pulled out a pennant that proclaimed, "Montreal Canadiens, Stanley Cup Champions" in English and French. I said, "Sorry, but I'm from Philadelphia." The poor guy looked crestfallen.

I generally enjoy Canadians. My favorite troubador is still Gordon Lightfoot, although his voice has gotten tinny with age. I hope he's recovering from his illness. He and I were in the ICU at the same time last fall.

I started watching hockey in the 60s and followed Les Canadiens. Those were great teams back then: the Pocket Rocket, Le Grand Belliveau, Yvon, Gumper, Toe Blake.

Bobby Clark seemed to pattern his style of play after Henri Richard - tenaceous forechecking, fast, skating around the net to stuff the puck on the short side. Once he came to the Flyers they became interesting to watch.

Montreal is an interesting city. I didn't get to spend nearly enough time there, but it was fun while it lasted. The only negative thing about the city is Le Stade Olympique! God, those horns. Shoot 'em! Oh, sorry, ya can't.

And it was infinitely more fun going through Canadian customs than US customs. She smiled and said, "Enjoy your stay in Canada," and I thought, "Wow, I'm sure I will!"

Hopefully I will get back up there one day.”

“I'm never even sure who's playing for the Flutters these days, and some of the guys wearing the uniform sometimes aren't playing either.

My sports editor also writes for the Flutters website. I was telling him the other day I miss the way they played in the old days, when players were with a team for virtually life. There was a flow to the game I rarely have seen since. They worked harder at setting up plays, and sometimes plays where they didn't score were still good plays because they produced scoring chances that brought Ooooh's from the crowd. I hope some of the coaches and players spend their time in hell doing the dump and chase over and over again for all eternity. It would be a fitting punishment for ruining what used to be a great game.”
