You all are a generous bunch! “I just met laqtis at REI in Troy, and thanks to him, I now own a Texsport 2 person tent, some cookware, a pocket knife, a fork, and a set of rain gear, oh and a insulated mug! Thanks to Pathman, I have a Ridge Rest sleeping mat! You all can't imagine how touched this makes me feel! Here I am, a total stranger that entered your world, without so as much as a first aid kit, and I've been welcomed in with open arms. Then to top of the welcoming, the wonderful generosity that you give ..... it's incredible! The advice, the gear, the offers for rides and help, ...... none of this has gone unnoticed. A sincere thank you to all of you for everything. I hope that in time, I get to meet everyone. I'm still in the planning stages of the Oct. 11-13th trip with the Walkingdude group, but so far, it's been a green light.....! Keep your fingers crossed for me! :-)” 2:18:03 PM 9/13/02 “We're either really nice, or total sucker losers... Glad you feel so at home coyote! It's what we, uh, strive for, yah, that's it, that's the ticket!” 2:20:28 PM 9/13/02 “Thanks bit....! LOL! If things go according to plan, will I have the dubious honor of meeting you in Oct.??” 2:23:13 PM 9/13/02 “Laqtis and Pathman are two righteous dudes.. their generousity is very commendable and TT-esque. Welcome to the wonderful world of backpacking! :-)” 2:25:16 PM 9/13/02 “No, sorry, I'm not gonna be coming for that trip. I have one planned for later that month on the AT in Georgia, so I can't make the one you're gonna be on. But there'll be plenty of other opportunities.” 2:25:37 PM 9/13/02 “Thank you Artex! And you're right: they are incredible guys... (oooo......don't let that get out! LOL!!!) Aww....well.....like you said bit, there will be other trips. ;-)” 2:27:48 PM 9/13/02 “You are welcome. I know I did nothing to help you, but you're welcome anyway!” 2:30:26 PM 9/13/02 Now it's coyote & Artex? “;-}” 2:34:04 PM 9/13/02 “Yep, they's a gen-r-os bunch Coyote. I'm just about fully outfitted thanks to them. TTers rule!” 3:23:40 PM 9/13/02 “Hope you can make the Michigan trip Coyote. Should be a great turnout! Look foward to meeting you!” 6:01:19 PM 9/13/02 Thanks WD! “I have a few loose ends to tie up and all should be a GO for that weekend! Hey Artex.....are you coming too? I'd like to meet the person I'm being paired up with here....LOL! Stumprider seems to think we'd be good together.....HMMMMM.... You ain't lyin' there, newgirl....TT'ers rule in a major way! Oh, and Phaedrus, just being here, adding to the ambiance of the place is help enough! :) I can't wait to try all this stuff out! ” 7:48:59 PM 9/13/02 “I have some cheese curds on reserve for you, coyote. There is no end to the bounty TTers are prepared to share -- as you'll see when you hike (and chow down) with the Michigan contingent.” 7:50:09 PM 9/13/02 OH! ........My..........K! “LOL! Cheese curds....huh? (checking list.....) Ahhhh.....I think I'm allergic to those? Ummm......yeah.....that's it...allergic. So uh........ I'll have to pass on those. Anyone have some AMISH beefjerky?” 7:53:42 PM 9/13/02 “Don't be so quick to refuse a free bag of curds, coyote, though tarabull and smiley girl will be happy to claim your share. If there is one thing they aren't allergic to, it's cheese curds...right ladies?” 7:56:44 PM 9/13/02 “K......I'm probably going to hear it from all sides here.... But .....just what are cheese curds? And just how DO they taste? 7:58:41 PM 9/13/02 “ta da dump - they taste like cheese” 8:02:12 PM 9/13/02 “It's that "curd" part that has me worried.....LOL! (groan)....but I've been known to try a little bit of everything at least once.....just to say I tried it. (Did I just say that?......Ooohhh..!)” 8:04:47 PM 9/13/02 cheese curds “yummy!” 8:10:03 PM 9/13/02 Cheese Cruds? “Why would you want to give someone cheese cruds? Coyote, welcome to TT- I recently received some of the same hospitality from crazy mike, who sent me a real cool pack for a friend who wants to get into hiking. Maple Leaf will be getting a sleeping pad from me. It's contagious, kinda like the cheese cruds.” 8:14:02 PM 9/13/02 “OK, coyote, the cheeseheads aren't going to give you a break on this one, so I'll spill the beans. Cheese curds are what gets compressed into blocks of cheese. Just what cheese is before they make it square.” 8:17:48 PM 9/13/02 “cheese curds are squeaky...” 8:20:35 PM 9/13/02 Oh for god sakes..... “I had a feeling about that...but I wasn't sure. I remember something about that process in science class way back when.... Thanks for the welcome Corp. Nasty..... And I'll be sure to be on the look out for those cruds/curds on the trip Bitpusher! LOL! But I'm still looking for some AMISH beefjerky...! ;-)” 8:22:13 PM 9/13/02 “I understand they're really tasty. And they do squeak, or at least that's what a cheesehead I used to work with told me...” 8:26:31 PM 9/13/02 Mmmmmm, the power of cheese... “Nice fresh cheese curds squeak when they're chewed.” 8:35:14 PM 9/13/02 “Generousity seems to be the hallmark of the TT gang. Wonder how that came about? I can say that I have benefitted from some of that good old TT hospitality.” 8:36:57 PM 9/13/02 “Yeah me too. My first couple of trips I borrowed gear from my brother (WalkinDude) and absorbed all I could learn from other more experienced hikers until I got to where I am now. Thanx to all that assisted.” 8:45:11 PM 9/13/02 Cheese Curds “Yes, they do squeak when you sink your teeth into them. Best ones I've found are in central Wisconsin....a couple of 'secret' places!” 9:13:48 PM 9/13/02 One More Time... for the North Coast “Little Miss Muffet Sat on a tuffet Eating her curds and whey... Is it coming back to you now? <G> And I think you can fold up that ridge rest into the modern day equivalent of a tuffet. I don't know how this 'board developed such an unsavory reputation. Our PR sux. We need new Advance People, LOL (and watch out for spiders)” 9:42:13 PM 9/13/02 “So Q, did you fnd out if she has an axe? ;)” 10:42:12 PM 9/13/02 “Uh......an axe Sassafras? I feel like I'm missing something here.... Care to share? 'Cause in answer to that question... no I don't.... Hmmmm! Maybe I need to look into one??? 10:48:58 PM 9/13/02 “Oh,......and no thanks to the squeeky teeth! LOL! I'll stick to the block of cheese I get from the grocery store...thanks! LOL!” 10:50:54 PM 9/13/02 Hmmmmmm “Maybe you would be better off taking them some Jewish cornbread instead of an axe, Coyote...just a thought...its much heavier.” 12:30:09 AM 9/14/02 Now there's an idea...! “Know what? I'll do even one better...... Forget the cornbread...... I'll just bring the JEW! LOLOL! Any volunteers??? LOL!” 12:37:00 AM 9/14/02 “ooooooooooooooooooooooooooooookay!” 7:01:30 AM 9/14/02 “I have an axe. Cheese curds are slaphappy people who live in Northern Iraq and are currently being persecuted by the Hussain Regime. Sass and Birch shared peanut butter cookies with me, they were very very very good. TT's are truely generous.” 8:10:19 AM 9/14/02 “coyote, sorry I wasn't available to answer the inquiry about the nature of cheese curds last night, but bitpusher did a nice job of answering. And stumprider is right about the central Wisconsin sourcing...after all that's where the real Colby is located. Here in northern Wisconsin, we have to import them from a couple counties away. Unfortunately I won't be able to make a curd delivery during the October MM outing in honor of Walkindude. But if I could, I'd surely bestow some of the lil squeekers on ya!” 12:00:59 AM 9/15/02 “coyote13, don't say no to the squeaky curds until you've tried them. pekka, pack those babies in some dry ice and send 'em on over! oh heck, RL's got a friend coming from Appleton, maybe she can bring some to us! :)” 10:07:49 AM 9/15/02 You are all just too dang funny! LOL! “Squeeky curds........LOL.....you all ain't right! O.K. I'll try one! Only if I have about 5 others doing the same thing at the SAME TIME! lololol! Hey Sassafras, at this point in time, I'm thinking that I'm going to be able to go. If that offer for a ride there still stands, I'd like to take you up on it. Oh and like I said at the beginning of this thread: THANK YOU.” 12:12:50 PM 9/15/02 “Hey 13 I hope you can go! 8)” 5:54:11 PM 9/15/02 “Coyote, curds are the same cheese you eat, but before its pressed into blocks. Same taste, different shape. That's all. Unless, Pekka, I'm wrong. Its been known to happen once in a while.” 7:21:50 AM 9/16/02 “Curds are the gold nuggets of Wisconsin, Smiley girl! You got it right. And cranberries are the rubies. Though I haven't experienced it yet, I'm sure someone in these parts has found a way to combine the two into one dish. Probably deep-fried.” 8:04:49 AM 9/16/02 “I was pretty impressed with that lingonberry jam too...but that doesn't really come from Wisconsin. Cheese curds all around!!!! Coyote13, you wouldn't have to ask twice for us all to eat one with you, (they really are good). Great news about your schedule getting arranged!!!! I'll email you details about where and when we depart.” 8:44:15 AM 9/16/02 “LOL Sass! I'll take your word on those curds! Got your email and thanks for the details. I'll be contacting you as time gets closer. By the way.....I'll be packing some of that AMISH beefjerkey if anyone wants to give that a try! It really is good....they have spicy too, but I only eat the mild. If anyone wants to try the spicy kind, let me know and when I go to pick mine up, I'll get some for you too. If I'm not mistaken, (and if this guy hasn't raised his price lately......he usually doesn't) the price per pound is around $14.00 and worth every penny. He sells a bag of it (I think it's a 5 pound bag...I'll have to check) and I KNOW that that sells for $30.00 I can get the 411 on all of it if anyone wants it. Before anyone goes off in the WRONG direction with this note.....YES I'm referring to AMISH BEEFJERKY and nothing else! LOL!” 9:41:25 AM 9/16/02 “sass, it is too bad that one can't gather lingonberries here in northern Wisconsin -- but I'm trying to get to Finland next year where a direct encounter is more likely (cloudberries, too! Reino brought back a bottle of cloudberry liquer from her Finland trip). Glad the jam was a hit, even though it is Swedish made, as I recall, lol.” 10:47:40 AM 9/16/02
