“I had one of those on the throat of a pet bunny once. Being from Wisconsin Dairy country we have lots of bot fly stories. One of my favorites is a farmer who used to bite his cows on the side if he ever got swatted in the face by their tail. Well on cows the bot flies almost always show up high on the sides and back. When the farmer bit the cow he bit over a bot fly and it popped out in his mouth.”

It may not work but for horses they have botfly scrapers. Would it work to get to the eggs before they hatch? Usually on a horse, you look for the little yellow pods on their legs.
