Damn
Okay, I just got off the phone with a friend whose father works for Empire Blue Cross in manhattan. Turns out someone walked into the office today and started shooting- Shot two employees, then himself. He's dead, so's one of the people he shot, maybe the other one too. I'm not sure if this guy was an employee or someone the company pissed off- This particular office was for investigating insurance fraud. I'm sure it'll be on the news by tonight. It sucks either way, but coming so soon after Sep 11, makes you wonder if that had anything to do with it- Empire had offices there last year, and the same friend's father narrowly missed getting killed, but hundreds of people he knew were not so lucky. He had to deal with that loss last year, and now another one of his close friends has been killed senselessly. (One of the two that were shot, he's known for years now.) After the 11th last year, he started smoking. After this, who knows.

It does suck when people are pushed to the limit. I heard it was a love triangle thing.

When I wondered if the 11th had anything to do with it, I meant maybe the guy was depressed and suicidal or something. Love triangle? Seriously? What a stupid reason to lose your head.

I couple of years ago I went to my local blue cross office and was surprised to see some sections where people were working behind bulletproof glass. A security guard was also there. I guess they've had some problems before or just trying to avoid them.

I'm skeert
There's no glass at my post office. No protection from the employees, or the anthrax!

(And their spraying in Chicago for West Nile skeeters the next two nights!)

Guess I'm doomed!

I guess that now instead of the phrase "going Postal" we can use the phrase "going Blue Cross" or "going Xerox" or "going Fujitsu." All of those companies have had shootings in the workplace in recent years. The U.S. Postal Service gets a bad rap for shootings that occurred long ago. I guess when they've got over 800,000 employees, not including contractors, anything is bound to happen.

So the term is no longer "Going Postal".
Now it's "Going Empire".

Actually, the post office still holds the record in my books. I'll have to find a link to it, but nowhere else has someone come to work dressed in an ape suit minus the head as if nothing was wrong. When this little postal worker was sent home, he left, and then came back in the same suit with the head, a strap on, and a gun. Thankfully, he didn't shoot anyone (Or attempt to use the strap on.) The postal service sets the bar high, I think they should get to keep the term.
I know I really shouldn't make light of the shooting today, especially since I know someone who lost a friend- Sorry if I offended anyone.
