My Idol: Sean Hannity

I worked with a guy 32 years ago who told me about shooting a Japanese prisoner in the head because he didn't want to baby-sit the guy.

“There used to be a thing in the media to use direct quotes, report the news and not make it, and to check all the facts. Why this doesn't happen anymore is beyond me. 1. I see very little difference between the quote attributed to Hannity and their version of what Kerry said.

2. If you quoted is as a source, it would automatically cause me to suspect it's reliability.

NoProb - so you see no difference about Kerry referring to the specific testimony of 150 witnesses relating to attorcities they themselves carried out, and Hannity changing the quote - yes changing - to imply Kerry was making a slight against all those who served in Vietnam and asking him to prove his words? And that he did all this to politicize the issue and harm the war effort?

This for example

I don’t see any evidence to corroborate his charges here and I haven’t seen Tim Russert ask him any questions about these things. That hurt the war effort. I don't know if Scooby Doo's quote is correct anymore than Hannity's quote. If either quote is accurate, or even close to being accurate, I'd say that a man of conscience would certainly have reported it up the line to authorities at the time, not waited until it served a political purpose to re-tell the story.”

“I'm not so sure Hannity lied - he probably just saw the butchered/misleading version of the Kerry quote and repeated it without looking into it.

Is there anything to suggest that Hannity knew the quote was grossly misleading?”

“Sean Hannity, the talking-point spouting mouthpiece on Fox News' Hannity & Colmes was recently caught by Harry Shearer slamming a Democratic congressman as an "#&%!$" when Hannity didn't realize he was being recorded.

Strangely, Hannity is constantly decrying the lack of civility from Democrats, but in the recording goes on to say "I hate these people".

“Hannity is a hypocrite. He use to talk about how great Col Hackworth was. Hackworth was this, Hackworth was that, Hackworth could do no wrong. Then one day Hannity asked Hackworth a question about the war in Iraq. He didn't get the answer he wanted and turned on him. Now he makes snide remarks about Hackworth. I found it to be rather funny myself. IMO (for what that is worth on here) I like Hackworth. He speaks his mind and doesn't sugar coat it one way or the other.”
