At least the coffee at Starbucks is fresh. Now those other drinks they serve I don't care for. Most of the time I don't even know what someone is ordering.” 3:11:07 PM 12/02/05 “I can get a 20oz coffee and danish for under $2 at my local Stewarts Shop.” 3:14:31 PM 12/02/05 “I can do almost do that to if I stop and get a Little Debbie Oatmeal creme cookie for a quarter” 3:22:18 PM 12/02/05 “oh yea, well when i was a kid a coke cost a nickel” 3:25:33 PM 12/02/05 “Although I don't much care for their coffee, I'll buy it over the weak crud they sell at any convenience store I've ever been in if I need a cup on the road. I refuse to use their snooty sizing system though. Medium black coffee, please. For real coffee, you can't go wrong with http://www.cookscorner.net/Coffee.html . Just ask baume.” 3:26:09 PM 12/02/05 “wow, you paid that much...lol” 3:26:26 PM 12/02/05 “#&%!$ starbucks! I hate that #&%!$ing place! I wouldn't go there if it was the last place in the world were you could get coffee!” 3:59:31 PM 12/02/05 “Charbucks! ICK!!! I'll get a bunch of gift cards from work too... I'll just get myself some chocolate covered blueberries and maybe a new coffee cup or two. Some of the teas are okay...” 4:24:54 PM 12/02/05 “I don't think I've ever got a regular Grande sized coffee at Starbucks for over $1.79 + tax. I know theve got their Muchomochafrappacappachino specialty drinks that can be pricey, but even this hillbilly doesn't think the $1.79 for a cup of good strong coffee is all that bad. I do buy more Caribou coffee though. Love their fireside blend!” 5:03:11 PM 12/02/05 “Only time I drink Starbucks is in the airport where the Hamburger place coffee is the same price as Starbucks.” 5:09:52 PM 12/02/05 “They just opened a new Starbucks out by me. It has done so well that Starbucks is looking at opening 2 more stores. When I lived on the other side of Nashville Starbucks had 3 stores all within a mile. One was in Krogers, the other in the mall and the last was right next door to where I lived. All 3 places were always packed” 2:54:35 PM 12/03/05 “A Starbucks opened up across the street from the hospital where I work. The coffee is good and I get it all the time. I don't mind paying less than two bucks for a good cup of coffee. The Egg Nog Latte is good too...it's the holidays ya know. I can get coffee in the hospital cafeteria for a buck...coffee in the office for free...both of them suck. I'll take a Starbucks anyday. I've tried for a few years to make it taste the same at home and just can't seem to get the same flavor. Oh, I only drink decaf now.” 3:15:57 PM 12/03/05 “#&%!$ Starbucks! I could give you directions to my place by using Starbucks. Plus there over zealous defense of their trademark, stomping on any "little guy" that comes near to them just pisses the #&%!$ out of me!” 4:04:37 PM 12/03/05 “BM, they are no worse than anybody else over their name/trademark. BTW, I had a pot of their Sumatra this morning..good stuff last edited: 12/03/05 4:46:49 PM” 4:44:47 PM 12/03/05 “Perhaps. I guess I expected more from Starbucks.......for some reason. I still can not condone there actions and thankfully I have many other choices. Ban Starbucks! ;)” 4:48:31 PM 12/03/05 “Starbucks at work...Gentleman Jack at home...does life get any better ??” 5:49:58 PM 12/03/05 “Oh come on, no ripping on Starbucks, we have TTer's who work there.” 6:01:29 PM 12/03/05 “So I couldn't rip on a fast food chain b/c a TTer might work there?” 6:17:08 PM 12/03/05 “MDSHiker - If the coffee in your office sucks, there must be a reason for it. Why don't you take over the task of making coffee. I'm sure you can make some good coffee. Be a hit in your office. I recommend using "Cadilac coffee," aka Maxwell House. it is now $6 for a can with 34.5 oz. at Dollar General. It was recently raised from $5, so it must have been improved!(?) Maybe your coffee should be made with some Spring water w/o all the chemicals. Before long you might be in business supplying coffee to a few thousand offices in town. You can do it. last edited: 12/03/05 6:29:29 PM” 6:21:39 PM 12/03/05 “I personally don't have an issue with Starbucks...I was a barista for 9 years at an independent shop in an area that had multiple SB's nearby. Still did great business. Yet, before I went off caffiene, if traveling, I ALWAYS stopped at SB's. Why? Because they are like McDonald's! Always the same, whereever you go. From WA DC to Aberdeen, WA it never changes. Also beyond that....they have the cleanest bathrooms around. Rest areas? Hah! Liek I wanna battle thru all the skanky hookers loitering there! I'll just zip into SB's! Heck, I know where EVERY SB's is in WA state ;-) That and I have perfected how to get freebies from them ;-) lol! If I miss caffiene it was that Rainrunner and me always stopped on the way on every hike...sigh! 6:51:27 PM 12/03/05 “Palm Bay Starbucks location delayed "City officials worked for three years to lure the Seattle-based national coffee shop chain.” 7:40:03 PM 12/03/05 “I buy their beans to use at home, they don't really cost anymore than any other good beans at the grocery store. Denver is overloaded with their stores though. Like BM said, I could give directions using them for a landmark pretty much.” 10:55:21 PM 12/03/05 “Pixie, How are you? I LOVE Starbucks. I'll take your gift cards if you don't want them He He! Or you can buy stuff in the store like games or mugs and stuff and have fun with it.” 11:43:36 PM 12/03/05 “I'm not addicted to coffee....any coffee. It is an addiction...you know. I usually have Red Rose tea....not from those coffee shops...big rip-off. I'll have one coffee a week....just for a different taste...and none of those strong stuff.” 2:16:07 AM 12/04/05 “Yeah, my coffee is like my women too --- cold and bitter.” 5:18:43 AM 12/04/05 “Alley Cats coffee in Spooner, Wisconsin rules. Yea Alley Cats! Locals rule! Alley Cats would kick Starbucks bewtox. I have my own reserved seat, they kept up with me on my hike (sending tons of email), invited me over for dinner (including this forthcoming Christmas) and lots of freebee's. Coffee is great and so are the soup and sandwiches. When in Spooner, Wi, stop in Alley Cats, load up and have them send the bill to Nowslimmer. Yea Alley Cats!” 6:14:02 AM 12/04/05 “Ha! You must be one of those Wisconsin LIBBIES that I've been hearing about. Sorry, but I can't pick up the tab while wearing my thick mittens. Wow, with two heaters going the coffee perked without turning on the coffee maker. we really have to suffer to live in paradise!” 6:46:22 AM 12/04/05 “Hi Steppenwolf...hope things are going your way. There are some good "home grown" coffee shops in the town where I live and they have very good coffee products. One of them is near my house and has internet access and is a cool place to hang out...lots of housewives in there...must be nice to have time to "hang out". Noooo...I'm not bitter! I like to grind beans and make coffee at home too...it's very good and I enjoy it as much as Starbucks. The decaf beans I buy taste great. Hey Nowslimmer!! Next time you roll through Huntsville, Alabama, stop and make us some coffee at the office !!” 10:12:56 AM 12/04/05 “I work for Starbucks, (but not in a store), so my perspective is not just as a consumer. As with most big companies, ( or any enitity I guess), there are good things they do and not so good things. As many have noted, they are opening up stores at a rapid rate. In Vancouver BC, there are two stores kitty corner to each other that have a huge amount of traffic and have been there for several years. They wouldn't be able to do that unless there was the demand. Just as many people have a strong dislike for the company and/or their products, there appear to be many others who like the company and the products. Undoubtedly there are things they could do better, but there are some things they do very well. Here in Seattle, there is a sense from the general public (I've picked this up from friends and acquaintances, reading newspapaers etc), that Starbucks' promotion of good coffee has enabled smaller operations to do well. Whether that's from the public learning what good coffee tastes like or wanting to support the little guy rather than the 'behemoth' I don't know - probably some of both. I've also met many people who have expressed an interest in working for Starbucks. One of the funniest questions I was asked regarding this (from a TT-er) was "I don't suppose Starbucks has a need for geologists ?".” 11:04:56 AM 12/04/05 “I went to a Second Cup today instead of a Starbucks....ha ha....stuck it to Starbucks since they were so mean to that lady with the Sambuck's coffee shop. I haven't seen her logo....so maybe she deserved it........” 1:05:35 AM 12/05/05 “You should also only drink Fair Trade Coffee. The workers picking Starbuck beans don't make enough money to buy a cup of your precious coffee. And you ever see pictures of them in the fields spraying? They have pesticide packs on their backs with zero protective gear. Bet their life expectancy is crapolla. Ban Starbucks! Ban Folgers! Ban 'em all!” 1:32:25 AM 12/05/05 “ALLEY CATS sells nothing butt free trade!” 5:54:31 AM 12/05/05 “bm - Did it occur to you that you are trying to get poor people fired?” 5:56:30 AM 12/05/05 “The workers picking Starbuck beans don't make enough money to buy a cup of your precious coffee. And you ever see pictures of them in the fields spraying? here we go again...LOL...i really don't know how some of you on here go grocery shopping...between the evils of capitalism and mistreated employees there must only be like 2 stores in the country where you can go and you must spend out the @ss...LOL” 8:10:26 AM 12/05/05 “So, Alley Cats being one, which is the other?” 8:17:55 AM 12/05/05 “LOL @ thrifty....” 8:18:04 AM 12/05/05 ““You should also only drink Fair Trade Coffee. Can one be sure if their condoms are made from "fair trade" rubber??” 8:30:16 AM 12/05/05 “I don't even think the saran wrap that I use is fair trade. What's a guy to do?” 8:32:25 AM 12/05/05 “dude i ate 2 chocolate-covered coffee beans last week, and i thought i was going to have a heart-attack! LOL! i don't know how you guys can stand caffeine.” 8:34:54 AM 12/05/05 “nothing like eating a handful of chocolate covered coffee beans. I wish Starbucks sold them or do they and I just never noticed” 8:37:37 AM 12/05/05 “I've got a half-liter jug of Starbucks Komodo Dragon right here!!! hahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahha!! Are you still buzzin', lyra??” 8:38:43 AM 12/05/05 “Trader Joe's has chocolate covered coffee beans.” 8:41:43 AM 12/05/05 “Chocolate covered coffee beans at Target for $3.99. That's the best deal. I get um all the time. Starbucks are way too expensive.” 9:00:15 AM 12/05/05 “songbyrd, thanks I didn't know Target had them MarkO, what is Trader Joe's” 9:33:41 AM 12/05/05 “Ha Ha! I bet lyra was a blur after eating those beans!! Did anyone see that program on Bob Costas (I think) about Jackie Robinson's son? He's lived in a poor village Africa for years now and has gotten the local coffee growers together to form a coop to market their coffee in the US. It's really helped the local farmers and the village. He refused to capitalize on the fact that he's Jackie Robinson's son, but he did try to get Major League baseball involved. I forget the name of the brand, but it sounds like a good cause.” 10:09:02 AM 12/05/05 “MarkO, what is Trader Joe's it's a wal mart for tree huggers...just kiddin, don't shoot your hippy daisey gun at me ;)” 10:25:09 AM 12/05/05 “Nimblefoot - I do have a lot of choices. One should always do something, anything, to try and make the World a better place for everyone. I went to the Mall today for xmas shopping. Pentagon City, It's right off a Subway stop. Watched hundreds of people give nothing to the Salvation Army chica. The Subway costs nothing, everyones going xmas shopping, give a frikken buck, dammit!” 3:52:21 PM 12/05/05 Jump to Page << prev
