When I used to drink coffee, I never was particulary fond of their house blend. They did make good lattes though. I opt for a V8 now instead.

My sister in law works for Starbucks in WA. She is having a baby in three weeks and they decided to eliminate her department. I never much liked the coffee but the artwork was pretty cool.

I'm not one for coffee, but if I don't have a choice, mine has to be sweetened A LOT!

Personally, I'd rather have a Mountain Dew. Same amount of caffine basically. But better tasting.

Advice from Dr. Prowler?
Prowler: Now you've got me feeling guilty. My girl friend drinks Starbucks a lot. I try to stop her. I make coffee for her, take her to other places... but she still drinks their foul Yuppie brews.

What should I do?

Should I take her wallet and car keys from her until her Starbucks craving subsides?

tell her you're going to have to stop seeing her and only go out with her twin!
;-P

have you ever seen that Jamie Kennedy where he's supposed to be a white rapper from the "ghetto" of Malibu, and his rough life consisted of waiting in long lines for "Starbizzucks" and "Barnes & Nizzoble"?? talk about peeing in my pants!! toooo funny.

About a year ago, my wife and I started grinding our own beans and now we're hopelessly addicted to coffee in the mornings. The past ten days we used up a whole bag of Blue Mtn coffee and it was expensive ... fresh ground coffee is great.

Before we started grinding our beans at home I hated coffee.

Help!

LOL Lyra!

that Jamie Kennedy routine reminds me of an old old Martin Mull song (Suburban White Blues?). I couldn't find the lyrics on line... but I remember:

"I woke up this morning,
and noticed both cars were gone,
I felt so blue, I felt so bad,
I threw my drink, I say I threw my drink, yeah I threw my drink
across the lawn."

We have Starbucks in the building. If I don't bring my thermos from home, I can't help myself. At least I get the refill price. I have a stainless steel Starbucks travel mug that will outlast me.

Am I bad or just misled?

Dear Dr. Prowler,

I drink coffee almost every day. Backpack coffee boiled in a pot; hotel room coffee from the little packets (which I pilfer on occassion to take on the afore mentioned backpacking excursions); at home (automatic timer on the Black & Decker coffee maker); at work (and depending on who makes it, you could float horseshoe nails in it); and yes,,,,sometimes from Starbucks.....

a nice Cafe' Au Lait does wonders for the soul....

Is there any help for recovery?? Or am I destined to be a coffee junkie forever?

Any corporation that has the nerve to call itself Stardollars or Starprofits or Starbucks should be forced into Chapter 11 and never allowed to plauge us with its vile name again.

i'm with chili36, i'll drink any kind that is on hand, and have been known to lift a couple of packets from hotel rooms. i do enjoy starbucks along with many others. my sister-in-law brought us some ethiopian yirgacheffe from denver once(the company was called ink!). we have ordered it from numerous places since, ocracoke coffee company, ink!, cook's corner (thank you violin). i think that and tanzanian peaberry are my favorite beans.

something to ponder...
I will NEVER drink Starbucks again (I drink coffee almost daily)

go to www.snopes2.com and look for Starbucks...

On 9/11/01 at a Starbucks near the WTC when people came in looking for water for survivors Starbucks charged them... they did return the money, but only after the story got out...

I watched the news report that trashed Starbucks for charging ambulance workers for their water to use for victims and I haven't spent another dime there since.

I'm a Starbucks captive! The only coffee we have is Starbucks and Hardees. The "food" court is in a newly built section of the hospital. We don't make it in our office because the water in the ancient section where we are is gawdawful. Tastes like rust.

One of the best and least expensive beans is the old A&P Eight O'clock brand. You can still find it at some grocery stores. For top dollar coffee, Blue Mountain is the absolute best!

I like coffee but not that much$$$$. I heard the same thing about that Starbucks. Screw 'em!!! Support your local coffee shop or take the time to brew it at home. 5 minutes here or there, what's the big deal!! All that stoppin' and startin' of the car, the 'to go' cups, the congestion of people and cars, cap off by having to speeding into work because you got caught behind a bunch of people that don't have to work right a way.

You can be that freakin' lazy. Drop the cash and get a nice 'maker'.

I gotta get a french press! Tried one of those awhile back. Way more 'flav-of-flav' then that bleached filter crap so many make.

I agree with Erehwon. Just boycott that local store in NYC, not Starbucks worldwide. Unless of course you prefer a better tasting cup of coffee.

I've got a one-cup maker on my desk at work. I buy Folger's or Maxwell House's 100% Colombian, and the coffee one cup at a time. Tastes great, and the only things I throw away are the grounds and the bag the coffee comes in.

I don't even think there's a Starbuck's here in town...

Another perspective....
My daughter has worked at Starbucks for several years. There are drawbacks to the company without a doubt, but there are very positive things to say about it, also.
They are one of the big reasons that the coffee shop came into being in this country in the first place. I have seen them coexist with local coffee houses for years and not undermine the local business. They pay their employees well and offer good benefits. I patronize the locals exclusively when I'm at home, but I'm not averse to spending some dough at Starbucks.

Just FUK $tarbuck$

Sept. 19, 2002 (AP) SEATTLE --

STARDOLLARS FILES FOR CHAPTER 11.

Starbucks, born of greed and filth, has admitted it's not so profitable anymore after its creditors forced it into Chapter 11 bankruptcy. "If the freeloaders in New York City had paid for their water during the 3d quarter of 2001 we wouldn't be in this mess," a $enior executive was quoted yesterday.

I understand the urge to hate Starbucks but it is true that they brought quality coffee to every backroad town in America so when I visit I don't have to drink Denny's coffee. Personally I prefer Peet's coffee but they aren't quite so ubiquitious (yet).

LONG LIVE THE ADDICTS!
You can always find BETTER coffee than at Starbucks!

Most cities have a local coffe shop thats much better, cheaper, and ifin you go enough you can meet friendly's noy some yuppie that sits behind a counter laughing at what your paying for a Latte!

Best of ALL support your LOCAL Cafe, a smaller business will treat you better than a larger one!

And for all you addicts out there
that drink it up!!!! DRINK ON!!!!

You dot have a problem only the ones that dont drink do!

whole latte love....
2mph....

i am gonna have to disagree with you on this one....many, many, many local coffee houses make better (ie fresher and choicer beans, more attention to detail, baristas that actually give a shlt about what they are doing, etc, etc...)coffee than starbucks....

what sells starbucks is brand name recognition, the same way that most successful products (of inferior quality) are marketed....

imagine you are driving down the highway in a strange city and have developed a craving for a cup o' joe....you stop at a traffic light and starbucks is on one corner and ernie's coffee shop is on the other corner....nine out of ten caffeine lovers will probably choose starbucks because he knows what to expect....

ernie's might be far superior in quality, but as a stranger in the area you might not be willing to take that chance....

Or . . . if it's the first Starbuck's you've ever seen in your life and you think that the name Ernie is creepy, you might not go to either place. In fact, you might feel a little overwhelmed and wonder if it's Starbuck's or Ernie's that is causing all the traffic congestion and high-strung drivers. You might feel like you just want to go back to your bud's apartment and rest a little, but the freakin' freeway is scary and you aren't looking forward to the drive. In the end, you might feel like you couldn't care less how popular Starbuck's is or how trendy Ernie's is, you might just want to go back to Montana . . . where people don't know about Starbuck's and rarely debate coffee. Besides, what's w/ the ocean. It smells bad.

There used to be a wonderful little coffee joint here called the Grotto that roasted their own blend as well as carrying others. One of the employees there took a regional microbrewers award for adding a few espresso beans to his brew for body and a hint of flavor. Surprisingly subtle, with a wonderful aroma.
Of course the owner of the joint got sick of the coffee house thing right when it was most popular, and specializes in wines. Though I think there's quite a bit of cheese and baloney to be had there as well.

My older brother is totally into coffee- He grinds his own beans and everything, has a cappacino machine- He also happens to be a huge trekkie, and he gave me some of this Klingon blend to try. It tasted a lot like dirt that had been soaked in diesel and then passed through a dead warthog. I've been cutting back on coffee, but my favorite actually has to be Dunkin Donuts. Screw starbucks.

My favorite coffee shop in the whole state is in Bozeman. It's the one Glen Close owns. It's over-priced and trendy and sometimes the people behind the counter are jerks (maybe they have big-heads 'cause they work for Glen Close), but the coffee is good and they treats they make are so good (maybe 'cause they are 100% butter and sugar). Actually, though, I don't know if that is the best coffee shop in the whole state. We don't debate coffee much.

LOL! I'm cracking myself up.
