Does the Buffalo even run in late summer? It's not spring-fed like Missouri streams, is it. That's one river I'd like to float some day - but in March or April.

got a good tip for ya. go by walmart and buy a chunk of dry ice. put it in the bottom of your cooler wrapped up in 4 or 5 walmart bags, ,then load the cooler like normal, including regular ice. me and stikmon took this trip a few weeks ago & i still had wet ice after 3 days in the hot sun. stikmon moved his beers to my cooler(where they mysteriously dissappeared)

it's a great trip! if yer into fishing, you can get some keepers(2 smallmouth per day/over 14 inches) but i was enjoying the scenery so much i didn't even bother. lots of long pools & paddlin. i reccomend going downstream to ships ferry when you get to the white river. when we got there they were running all 8 generators & its was pretty much impossible to paddle upstream. if we hadn't gotten towed up the buffalo city, ,we'd have been screwed!

you can only float the lower section this time of year. we did a little dragging but not much. then again, we were each soloing a canoe , so gonzo will prolly drag a little more. plus, it's dropped some since then. they'll get their feet wet a few times, but it's such a killer place, it doesn't seem to matter. it's mostly long deep pools and lots of paddling. many people take motors on that section.

gonzo, look for the gigantic alligator gar when you first come into a long black pool....big as yer leg!

I've not been down south yet, but next year I will for sure. When your in Zion check out Angels Landing not too steep, but some really cool views. Theres also a place called "The Black Hole" somewhere near Lake Powell which I heard is pretty cool. I've heard Coyote Gulch is awesome as well. Make sure you can take some pictures and give us a trip report. I'm sure you will have a great time.
