The Ultimate in Light Weight Trekking!! “Astral Projection What is Astral Projection? The Out of Body Experience is important. Lives are fundamentally changed by it. Belief systems are shaken. 10% of people questioned state that they have experienced it. So what is the nature of the experience? Floating, spinning, drifting, flying, are all descriptions which people have given, however, the key message is the same: people claim that for a short time, they experienced being outside of their own body. Sometimes they say they were looking straight at it, other times they say they were more involved in watching the actions of those around them, only from a different, sometimes seemly impossible viewpoint. People write that they were peacefully calm, or dreadfully worried, (not least about the fact that they thought that they were dead). How the subject feels at the time seems not to be a common linking factor. Likewise it can happen at any time. People report slowly drifting out of their bodies while in their beds at night, or in the midst of a car crash, operation, or other life threatening situation. The label 'Out of Body' is self explanatory, however, the name, Astral Projection, is not. It is certainly an older description of the same experience, however it is one which is based on a whole system of belief created to try to explain, order and classify the experience. It is important to note that 'OBEs' have not just been reported for the last hundred years, but in every part of the world and at every time. The experience is commonly linked with the NDE, or Near Death Experience, in which a subject might suddenly float above his corporeal self in an operating theatre, and then experience floating down a tunnel to a light. This is very interesting, however, it should be noted, that most Out of the Body Experiences happen under less dramatic conditions. The question of course is, is the Out of Body Experience what it seems to be? And, at this point I think it is important to realise that the question is not cut and dried, there is plenty of evidence for and against the experience being considered to be somehow 'physically' real. However there is no question as to whether the experience is real in terms of actually being an experience which people can undergo. There are just too many similar reports now. The other reason to prove that the OBE is not an outright fabrication, is that anyone can go try it for themselves. It's not very often, that a supposedly 'paranormal' experience comes with it's own proof of authenticity. Astral Projection can be experienced by anyone who puts in the time and effort to learn how to provoke the experience. It's not easy to control, but it is possible to investigate for yourself. The literature on the subject is therefore surprisingly full of techniques to produce 'projection', with the authors uninterested in answering disbelievers since those that doubt can just go find out for themselves. However, while there are major similarities between projection instructions, there is no one single set. Clearly the search for a reliable and easy to follow set of instructions for the production of the experience is a major search. A search which is sometimes, but definitely not always, obscured with pseudo-religious waffle. (And yet, how can you blame people for trying to understand what has happened to them? Just sitting back and shouting "Rubbish!" does not help someone, who knows that they have existed without their body). It is my opinion that the experience underpins all of the paranormal phenomena and as such, the answer to the question of whether the experience is hallucinatory, in some sense 'real', or, in every sense REAL, should be investigated everyone with an interest in the unexplained.” 1:54:19 PM 9/17/02 “If you find yourself out of your body... If you are ever luckily enough to find yourself outside your body, (and are conscious enough to ever remember reading this web page!). I recommend the following experiments for you to try. * Firstly, it is vital that you attempt to bring back some form of evidence, for without it, you are destined to be disbelieved. You may even find that you yourself cannot believe what has just happened... If you 'project' regularly then place a playing card or other unknown target, where you can't see it normally. Try to view the object in your out of body state. * Remember! Tell your self to remember the experience and also the feeling of the experience, (good for later attempts, see book). Think of an object you will pass, as you get up in the morning and will yourself to remember at that time, (just in case you forget the whole thing!) * Walk through a wall. Accounts vary as to the solidity of the so called astral body that you now inhabit, sometimes it is said to be variable by the same person. Try walking through a wall since those who claim to have succeeded say that it really is an unforgettable experience. * Look at your body. Some people report that they did not see their physical body, others report that what they saw was slightly unlike them in that it was not reversed like when they normally see it in a mirror. Seeing your own body breathing is supposedly a great relief for people! * Look for the 'cord' The astral body is supposedly connected to the physical via a 'silver cord' with infinite elastic properties. If you are 'out' then it should be able to be seen or at least felt, exiting your astral body from the back of the head, and entering the physical on the forehead. * Look at an object, and attempt to change it using only your mind. If it does change, then you are most probably dreaming. Btw, Am I dreaming? is a good question to ask and if there is any doubt about your answer then you probably are dreaming: dreaming about having an OBE! * Speak. Listen, Look. Move, Fly! You should try to do these things, since they will help you to decide afterwards if your experience was actually real or not. *Enjoy. Remember, that you are safe, and that part of you is in complete control of the whole experience. * If you want to terminate the OBE. Should you really want to return to your body try the following: If you cannot see it, then think about it, and being near to it, this should bring you back to within 'range'. Most likely, attempting to 'touch' your own body will bring you in, if the close proximity has not already done it. Finally, if you really want back inside, then attempt to move. Not your whole body, but just one finger.” 2:04:22 PM 9/17/02 “Here is a brief and by no means complete, digest of some of the most popular techniques for attaining the Out of Body Experience. Before attempting any of them, I would recommend reading as many of the books on the subject as you can find. There will be a new type of technique discussed in the 'book' elsewhere on the site. -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- The Projection of the Astral Body. S. Muldoon and H. Carrington. Muldoon's technique was firmly based upon the idea that, each night during sleep we undergo a subconsciously controlled 'projection'. From this premise, he decided that the most effective method of inducing the experience was to 'stress' what he called the passive will, the subconscious. By habitually thinking about the experience, and imagining it actually happening, he believed the subconscious would eventually get the idea. He also recommended the use of imagery as you are falling asleep, such as an elevator or rocket, however staying conscious at that stage of sleep is clearly not the easiest thing to achieve. The book also contains biofeedback techniques by which Muldoon would achieve relaxation and the 'subconscious will' that he believed to be necessary to project. This is the most important work in the literature on the subject. -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Leaving the Body D. Scott Rogo. Rogo, believed that his diet was crucial to his successes in the field. He also stressed the idea of controlling the hypnagogic state, (the period of random imagery just before sleep), and would write down all the images he saw, in the end controlling the experience till he could prolong it. Once again, Rogo found that at this stage his subconscious would present him with ways to initiate an Out of Body state if he wanted. These 'cues' would take the form of more imagery, (but this time recognizable symbols), such as being at the top of a great building with the choice of whether to jump off or not left up to him. Once the conscious (and lucid) decision was made, the proper experience would begin. The book is the best summary of all the various techniques and in my opinion the most accessible/readable. -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- The Art and Practice of Astral Projection. Ophiel. Again, the subconscious is used, this time, in relation to habitual movements. Ophiel suggested that a path should be set out within your home, and that you should periodically progress along it, noting various stages and asking yourself if you are conscious. The path should be followed physically, and mentally in free moments during the day. The idea was that once the subconscious has firmly got the idea, it will follow the path in your dreams and present you with chances to become conscious or, Lucid, within the dream. It is then a simple matter to change the dream into an OBE. (This last fact is my own experience but I am almost certain that others will find the same thing to be true for them too). -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- The Techniques of Astral Projection. Dr Douglas Baker Relaxation = Projection is a reoccurring theme, and the total relaxation which comes with sleep is often the easiest method for attaining the experience. Baker, too, puts forward the suggestion that you should keep a target in mind for your projections and that that visualisation of your target should fill your subconscious mind until you find yourself projecting to it from your dreams. Baker also believes that the breath is an important factor for projection, in the same sense that it is used within yoga. -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Journeys Out of the Body. Robert A. Monroe Monroe relies on a more difficult starting point, in that he believes that the total relaxation of both mind and body required for projection, should be attained from total consciousness, with no help from the natural sleep pattern. This makes his technique quite demanding, but none the less possible for a disciplined mind. Again, like the others, visualisation is the key to his techniques. -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Astral Projection Oliver Fox Fox, started projections from within lucid dreams, (dreams in which the dreamer knows that he is dreaming but is just going along with it). Once Fox realised he was dreaming, he would instantly 'ask' his subconscious for an OBE, which would respond, when in this relaxed state. Like many of the 'projectors' he believed that projections happen every single night to all of us as we sleep. His second method, was a little more dramatic. He would summon all his conscious self to a point between his eyes, imagine a doorway there, and hurl himself at it with all his might! The latter method gave Fox his most vivid experiences but would not seem to be the easiest of techniques to master without the understanding of and feeling for the experience gained by attempts with the other methods. -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- When reading the literature, and deciding which set of techniques might suit you, my advice is to try to strip away the pseudo-religion and conjecture from the actual methods. Sleep is a good starting point for launching the Out of Body experience and is probably the easiest way to get out. The only catch being that you never quite know when it is that you will succeed. Good luck!” 2:28:39 PM 9/17/02 “dude, without some randomly capitalized words, i'm just not too turned on.” 2:35:22 PM 9/17/02 “sounds like lucid dreaming to me.” 2:40:23 PM 9/17/02 “LMAO Lyra!” 2:42:40 PM 9/17/02 “Lucid dreaming is only a half way step. Lyra wants a marvin imitation... yet she fails to understand the code. Marvin did not randomly capitalize!” 2:46:25 PM 9/17/02 “Astral Projection=Mushrooms! 8P” 6:00:13 PM 9/17/02
