Regulations
We're looking to hike into the Presidentials in a couple weekends. Does any one have any info on back country camping up there, shelters, fees, and regulations. Maybe a link to the regulations....

Try http://www.fs.fed.us/r9/white/recreation/land_above/backcountry_rules.html" target="_blank"> back country rules in WMNF/ for the rules.

Do you know where in the Presidentials you want to hike? If you need some suggestions, go to the following site for information.

Are you going to hike around Kancamagus or the Presidentials?

There is no camping above tree line along the Presidential traverse. Huts are expensive and there are a few huts near the traverse which charge around 8 bucks. In the Presidentials, heading towards Mt. Isolation or the dry river wilderness will bring you away from crowds and into areas where it is easier to camp freely and legally.

For shelter info: follow the links/

If you park in the WMNF you need a parking sticker. They are 3 dollars a day (most lots have self pay stations), but there are also weekly, monthly and annual options.

Pedxing speaks the truth. I did a four-day trip this summer that included the Davis Path and from route 302 to Boott Spur I didn't run into a single person. Along Davis Path you have several options of where to camp. There is the Resolution shelter, a legal campsite by Stairs Mountain, and a nice legal campsite just north of Mt Isolation.

I found the view of Washington from Isolation to be one of the best in the Presidentials. The Davis Path is a nice trail; I would highly recommend it to anyone doing the Presidentials.

There is a question forum, section for trail conditions and lots of pictures and stuff from the area. But you must already know of this site??????

Pete and Mad River gave you the best two discussion boards for the WMNF (Pete's is great for the Cats and the Adirondaks too).

Two other great web resources are:

http://www.cs.dartmouth.edu/whites/index.html" target="_blank"> White Mountain Server

and

http://home.earthlink.net/~ellozy/index.html" target="_blank"> peak bagger’s site which gives trails and route suggestions for all of New Hampshire's 4000 footers and which has a small "peak bagger's forum" which isn't very active, but in which the webmaster is very helpful in addressing people's questions.

People will also answer your questions at
http://www.alpinezone.com="_blank"> alpinezone.com
- a nice board which just doesn't get the traffic that the other two (Pete's and Mad's links) get.
