“On this day, thirty two years ago Jimi Hendrix died.” 12:50:30 PM 9/18/02 “The day I left Vietnam. I don't miss being "In Country", but I do miss Jimi. All these years later and he's still the best.” 1:07:27 PM 9/18/02 SORRY “Just so lying about my military record doesn't come back to haunt me should I ever run for office, my ETS year was '69, not '70. I thought I remembered more about his death then I should have had I still been in the delta.” 1:18:54 PM 9/18/02 Dang! “Wow, has it been that long?” 7:56:10 PM 9/18/02 “My uncle (the one who took the brown acid) saw him play the Star Spangled Banner at Woodstock. It was apparently really early in the morning, and only a handful of people saw it.” 7:59:09 PM 9/18/02 “A friend who was there told me that he, "...woke us up Sunday morning with the Star Spangled Banner..." I visited his grave in Renton, Washington in July. My 16 year old son and his buddies are huge fans.” 7:54:25 AM 9/19/02 didn't know he died... “the music is all that matters...he lives on as long as we listen to the music...as far as I'm concerned...he's still alive and jamming well. Rock on!!!” 8:22:35 PM 9/19/02 And We Were Singing Bye Bye Miss American Pie “I heard my moma cry... I heard her pray the night Chicago died. (AP Photo/Mark McQueen) The Associated Press ATLANTA Feb 25, 2005 — Edward Patten, a member of the Grammy-winning Gladys Knight & The Pips, died early Friday at a suburban Detroit hospital, said his cousin, another member of the group. He was 65. Patten, an Atlanta native who lived in Detroit, died at a hospital in Michigan from a stroke he suffered a few days before, said William Guest. Gladys Knight & the Pips comprised of Knight; her brother, Merald "Bubba" Knight; and their cousins Guest and Patten recorded for Motown from 1966-1973 and for Buddah Records from 1973-77. They later recorded for CBS until breaking up in 1989. The group, whose hits included "I Heard It Through the Grapevine" and "Midnight Train to Georgia," won four Grammys and was inducted to the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 1996. Patten, known for his high tenor voice, joined the group in 1959, Guest said. Patten's father was a bandleader and he, along with the rest of the family, grew up around music. Patten was one of the founders of Crew Records, based in Detroit and Atlanta, and sang backup for the label's recording artists, Crew spokeswoman Denise Fussell said. http://abcnews.go.com/Entertainment/wireStory?id=531428 last edited: 2/25/05 2:27:47 PM” 2:27:03 PM 2/25/05 “Midnight train to GA is one of my all time favorites.
