ok time for a new trip to plan
I would love to get together and do a hike to the cats. I know alot of you guys are going to Maine in Oct, and might not be able to make this trip. I think it would be a good time to see some very nice colors for fall.
So what about this weekend?(Oct 19th) we can meet Friday or Sat.
make it a 2 nighter or just 1
if anyone needs gear or a ride please just ask!!
ok who wants to go?
I know some of us couldnt make the last trip in Sept so here is your chance to redeam(sp) yourself

Sounds like a nice plan.
I think we may head to the Daks for foliage season this year.

I found this interesting link on fall foliage watching in NY...

I would go, but it's just a little to far for me.

I'm not going to Maine and I missed the September hike, but I'm going on this one.

Oh boy! Time to go home and check out the Catskill maps.

I'm already going to the Cats this weekend, Maple. Me and a couple of friends will be doing the Wittenburg/Cornell/Slide trail, or part of it at least. We'll be leaving Sat morning- These two guys have never gone backpacking before, so we'll most definitely be hiking our own hike, most likely very slow. I don't want to make it a group hike because of that (don't want to ruin anyone's trip) but if we run into each other on the trail, that'd be cool too. Besides, if I did bump into you, you could finally get your hands on that mattress pad...

Corp, this hike is for October.

Are you going this weekend?

I'm a moron.
Yes, I'm going this weekend. Ignore my other post here, I'm recovering from a lobotomy apparently. In the meantime, sure, I'll go on this trip.

Like the Corporal, I'll be hitting the 'Skills this weekend also, but a different part. That really means nothing, but I just thought I'd mention it.

I would go on the Oct. 19th trip, but I'll just have gotten back from Maine a few days before then, and will likely use that weekend to move all my dookie upstairs to my place.

What part of the 'Skills y'all thinking of doing? You'll be going at a primo time for foilage, so long as the drought dosen't affect the colors too much.. it'll still be beautiful though.

Who else is, or may be, going on your trip? Inquiring nasties want to know.

Senior Nasty - Pennsy Hiker is a very distant possibilty, he'll probably have to work on Saturday. I haven't heard from Prowler, don't think he'll be able to make it. I'll probably do the trip solo.. you and you're buds are welcome to do this route with me instead, but I have no problem at all doing it with me, myself, and I.

as far as the colors go,
they say because of the lack of water the reds will be very strong this year.....

Hmm. One little piggy just #&%!$ed out of my trip- How's this route you're talking about? I wouldn't consider taking anyone this inexperienced on a real rough trail when other people are involved- If this other little piggy also goes wee wee wee all the way home, I think we definitely should join forces- Perhaps if this trail you're doing is similar or less demanding that the one I was planning, we should plan a merger anyway. I have an atlas type book that has some info on the Cats, but nothing about the route you mentioned.

Wow- I typed the word that means female dog, and I was automatically censored- Am I just noticing this, or is this a new feature?

Mapleleaf

Corporal, the trail I'll be doing dosen't sound to be as grueling as the Wittenburg-Cornell-Slide trail, but it's still a bit of a buttkicker. If the other little piggy turns into bacon, you're more than welcome to join me. Or if the piggy's life is spared, bring him along as well. Lemme know!

Because of the dry weather, the tree's are also going to start going dormant earlier. The wekend you have picked may be a week or two past their peak.

Im going to take my maps and my Guide to catskill trail book to work with me and find a good trial. something that has water on it. Do you all want to go on Fri. or Sat?

as for the colors, I guess they will be past there peak (but then again arent we all? lol) I wish i could figure out when the perfect time will be but I can't. so even if its past the best time, there will still be some nice colors left!

Sounds great Miss Leaf, but I'll still be in Maine.

Yo Artex - check the ridiculous time of this post (19 hr work day!), but so far I'm still working Saturday. Yuck! However, if it gets cancelled, I'll know tomorrow afternoon. If you know the details of your hike Sat/Sun, time, trails etc, let me know, okee?

ok I have a couple of ideas,

1.Balsam Mountain Lake Wild forest
on the Mill Brook Ridge Trail
there is a source for water and a lean to. Also Alder Lake.
Ive never been here so if you have please tell us about it.

2.Indian Head Wilderness Area
on the Overlook Spur Trail
there is alot of areas to get water
about 3 places on your way to the leanto. also the lean to is right next to Echo lake.
also there are Ruins and a Tower (im leaning toward this one)
if this is the one let's think about maybe making this a 2 nighter.

if you have any other ideas please let us all know. I for one would like to save Slide Mt. for maybe next spring. But thats how I feel

OK let's hike!

yeah im leaning towards #2 also.
its about a 4hr drive from NYC. corp you want to share the driving?
I was thinking of leaving friday after work and drive to a half way point then stay the night at some camp ground or even in the car (hay gear slut told you I was cheap)then get going early the next morning. and hook up with everyone else.

Sure, I'll share the driving. Leaving on a Fri night sounds cool too, of course we'll have to see how everything unfolds. This sounds like it'll be a great trip!

That has to be one of the funniest typos! I thought stick #&%!$s were banned by the EPA-
Nope, last time I drove anything with a stick was the LAST time I drove anything with a stick. I cost the army a lot of money, replacing clutches and whatnot. We could just take my car, I'm trying to drive it into the ground anyway, and I don't mind doing all the driving, especially if we're splitting the trip up like that.

hay do we know which trail we want to take?

I think cop and myself were thing of the 2nd trail. It has view, leanto, water, fire tower that is still open and i think you can go into. also I know corp and myself are heading up on Fri night in his car (note to self, write goodbye letter to family and tell them how much I love them :))
so lets plan to meet at 10:00am at the trail head.
Must hike, im having a brain fart right now and cant remeber where you are from. If your near us do you want to drive up with us on Friday night? sorry corp ive added another sucker uumm I mean a passenger in your car. LOL

I kind of want to do this hike but don't want to commit because I will just be back from Maine and don't know if my family will hate me for going out again. So I will decide last minute if it is okay with you all. But I guess I can wear a skirt if you all are going to, but over tights because it may be really coollddd!!

Lyndy, I would love to have you join us on this trip!!
it would be nice to have another female along.
But I have to be honest. I kinda would rather see Must Hike in a skirt!

hay wait, does that mean if he shaves his legs then i have too?

Huh? (me too)

I will try but it depends on how my family feels about it. I have to look at the thread and see what all the details are as to where I have to drive etc.
