I see the problem. I need a fat head, you need a fat leg. Maybe if I rubbed bacon on my forehead...
Corporal Nasty

I wish I was going to be around that weekend, but I've got a great idea for Geobeet. If it snows, borrow AmyG's gear sled and haul his stinky self in. I'd probably come home early just to see this sight.

I said MUSH my little pretties!!

Nah
Mapleleaf
9:49:42 AM
10/11/02

Crikey, that could be disasterous. Gore Tex might think Must Hike is "one of those sheilas!"
Geobeet

That was on another thread.

Mapleleaf is trying to ruin this trip even before it begins.
Must Hike
3:46:02 PM
10/11/02

She's just trying to horn in on my sympathy supply.
Geobeet
4:28:50 PM
10/11/02

Zay- If you're out there, I might need your help. Make sure you bring plenty of stitches, and IV's. Noone is going to ruin this trip before it starts, even if it means we have to wrap maple up in mummy bandages and replace all her lost blood with Kool Aid. And Must Hike, I'm counting on you too, don't try to pull any last minute stuff like "My skirt doesn't go with my boots." Okay? :)
Corporal Nasty
4:51:14 PM
10/11/02

This is gonna be a great trip!
Lessee if I got this straight:

Maple is gonna bleed all over the place.

Must Hike's skirt will clash with his boots.

Corporal will be attacked by bears looking for his Kool Aid stash.

Gore Tex is going to have insomnia because I won't be there to provide the sound of ocean waves.

Oh yeah, this trip is goin down!!!
Geobeet
5:59:21 PM
10/11/02

great
i'll bleed so that will attract all the bears for miles around.

that will be a trip never to forget.

4 stitches but they are coming out next friday in the am
Mapleleaf
9:46:37 PM
10/11/02

Wow- That's cutting it kinda close, Maple- Geddit? HA! Oh dear God, I've gone corny. Can't wait for the trip, less than a week to go now!
Corporal Nasty
7:06:06 PM
10/12/02

Watch it guy, she's the one with the Bandaid stash!
Geobeet
10:55:51 PM
10/12/02

uumm I have a little question?

What about Bears?

I don't think they are Hibernating(sp) yet.

I don't have Bear Canister. I guess we will have to hang bags.
Mapleleaf

Please just leave your food lying around the campsite. It makes it easier to get to.

Geobeet

Mapleleaf
1:40:22 PM
10/14/02

If the bear has a chainsaw, it's probably Brian.
Geobeet
1:41:01 PM
10/14/02

geo geo geo,
its ok to make fun now!

hhmm are you going on the trip thats planned for next spring?????
Mapleleaf
1:41:58 PM
10/14/02

Do not run from Mr. Bear. If you run from Mr. Bear, you are putting a big sign on you that says "I AM PREY!!!! EAT ME!!!!!!"

Black bears bluff charge a lot. Scream and shout and wave your arms or hiking poles in the air to make yourself look bigger. They will usually run away.

Or, you could just take Geobeet along, since he will be running the slowest.

just rev'dthis email from someone who is going.
Hi Nora,
I just looked up the weather forcast for Woodstock Oct 19th. Although the
weather may shift, I see you are going to have partly cloudy conditions,
50s during the day, 30s at night, no rain on either side of your target
dates which means it'll be a nice weekend for hiking/camping.

Be sure to pack your woolies, it'll be cold up there. You generally loose
3° for every 1000' meaning your 3100' summit temps may drop to the 40s
day & 20s at night.

Woof at the map and directions!
Geobeet

10/14/02

ok I will get it together soon :)
from "Catskill Region" guide to Catskill trail Book.

Trailhead: Access to the Overlook Mt. trailhead is from Woodstock. Travel 0.6 mi. N. on Co. Rd. 33 from Woodstock to the intersection of Glasco Turnpike. Continue 2.1 mi. stight ahead up steep Meads Mt. Rd. to the DEC trailhead signpost and very large parking area on the Right side of the road. The large building across the road from the trailhead was once Mead's Mt. House, an early hotel.

if you are planning to go on this trip, dress warm!
It may snow.....
Mapleleaf
12:56:44 PM
10/16/02

It's gonna be downright cold out, that's for sure. At least the mid-20s I suspect, maybe as low as the low 20s.

At those temps, water bottles can freeze up. Had a night in the mid-20s on my spring trip and I actually left containers of water out to make ice for my cooler. Didn't make much, but it was interesting to actually make ice at the campsite.

So that leads to the upside: the beer will be cold!

I'm going to miss this trip Mapleleaf, since I was gone for five days and then my husband left and won't be back from his trip until Friday night. We need to spend this weekend as a family! You all have a good time and stay warm! No stupid human popsicle tricks, 'kay?
LyndyS

10/16/02

thanks, I can't wait to try my 0' bag out. I have not gone backpacking in this kind of cold. I need to do some shopping tonight!

ps Lyndy, you asked me what kind of sleeping bag I had, it's a kelty 0' deg mummy bag.
sorry for not knowing it then.
Mapleleaf
2:17:55 PM
10/16/02

That 0-degree Kelty will be good down to the mid-20s. I have a Kelty that is synthetic filled. If it goes below 25 the cold keeps me awake. I actually stuffed that one inside my summer bag when it got cold in my May trip to the Sods. I was toasty warm that night! Mmmmm good!
Geobeet
2:22:35 PM
10/16/02

yes I was thinking that it would be good for about 20' so i may pick up a fleece blanket. something thin, light weight yet warm.
any other suggestions?
