Quick, suggest a good beer.
Nothing generic like coors ect. I've had my fill for now of Killians and Guinness too. Want something on the order of Honey Brown or Killians.

Been scoping that blue moon ale. Is it any good?

Have you tried Amber?
I really enjoy the taste of Ambers, not as sweet as Porter.
I am a West Coast Micro Brew devotee so I cannot suggest brand names as most likely the stuff we have around here does not make it that far East.

Beck's Dark. Gooood stuff, if a bit pricey.

Blue Moon is sweet tasting, slightly floral. sorta hefewiesen (sp?). It's good. Very drinkable.

For hoppy, go any IPA. Or Full Sail Amber.

I buy local microbrews, usually amber or brown ales.

Blue Moon is in my top 3 favorite beers. I'm told they make a pumpkin beer, too.

Killians makes a Honey Wheat that is tasty.

And, I'm pretty partial to Sam Adams Cherry Wheat.

Can't Help You Man...Well Maybe
Honey Brown or Killians are both "sweet" beers, on the other side of a well-balanced beer, opposite to bitter/hopy beers, and I can't stand beers on the sweet side. Try a Bock beer, Brown Ale or Lambic. Or go balls out and Belgian Ale or Barley Wine yourself...lots of alcohol in them.

I prefer Pale Ales, Porters and Bitters...give me hops, aroma and tons of flavor.

In your neck of the woods I'd reccomend trying a sampling from The Goose Island brewery in Chicago, Excellent IPA and their brown ale is killer.

Goose Island is good, unless it's been on the shelf too long. It tends to become highly carbonated.

Sam Adams is decent stuff for a reasonable price.

Sammy Smith, ya varmints!

The Nut Brown totally kills as well the India Ale (no 'P'). I've been swilling some of that Beamish Stout, lately. Mighty tasty, and a touch lighter than Guinness.

dm99 - Do you get Bell's in your area? It's brewed in Kalamazoo Mich. Their Oberon (sp?) is excellent. Creamy, smooth. Yum

Frostie!

They changed the bottle design to this cheap piece o' crap, but the stuff inside tastes just like it did in the Bad Ol' Days.

My favorite is Sam Adams summer ale. Availability is a problem. I have a friend that brews a mean ginger ale (not to be confused with the soda). I wonder if I can covince him to throw in some lemon...

I've been wanting to try Samual Adams Summer Ale but can never find it. What's the deal?

The problem is that there aren't many micro brews sold around here. The market in a college town tends to lean towards quantity, not quality. So I ended up settling for some Rolling Rock and some Honey Brown. Maybe I'll start doing some hunting and see if I can find some good stuff.

The best!
Sammi Claus is a Swiss brew, pricey but great malt taste and smooth as a baby's butt. It's about 14 percent alcohol. Makes a fine dinner drink, almost like wine. Well worth the effort to find it.

. . . is a contract brew. Only available in 'contracted'locations. Some of us can enjoy, the rest of you have to suffer! :-}

Whatever you do...stay away from that "beer machine".
I have yet to hear anyone say anything good about it.
If you want to make beer, go ahead and get a real kit.

Fat Tyre, made by New Belgium Brewery in Boulder, CO. The best brown ale in North America, IMO. Not bitter, but lots of body.

Also, Shiner Bock, made in Texas. A great beer!

Last night, Birch and Sass had some German beer w/ a hint of banana. Ludwig something or other... It was quite tasty.

We also sampled the Manitou Amber Ale (Michigan brewed) and a Russian beer that was quite tasty.

Presently enjoying a cold Heiny.

Gotta love a good beer.

Konig Ludwig, weisse was the German stuff that tasted like bannanas.

Fat Tire is very tasty.

The Russian beer is Parnassus Baltika.

For a second there I thought you said 'buggles' <Ha>

A guy I know keeps threatening an attempt at recreating that Czech Pilsner... but he says he needs an el cheapo (but still functional) refrigerator to brew it in. Don't ask me... LOL

A cold Heiny... in September?

Sounds like he's trying to lager it, Tilt. Lagers are bottom-fermenting yeasts that prefer cold temps, preferably about the temp that a fridge would have. I can't remember if Pilsners are lagers. I guess I could go look it up but I'm too lazy, lol!

I stuck mostly to ales myself. Lagering is hard, and so is making a Pilsner. Not much malt in there to cover up your mistakes!

For what it's worth.....
Heineken and Grolsch taste sour to me. I like Beck's Dark as a European beer, but I prefer Newcastle Nut Brown Ale which is on tap at my local pub. Sam Smith's is truly excellent, but I haven't found any for years - they used to have it at the Artist's Café in Lake Placid, NY. Here in Canada Sleeman's brew an amber that is quite good.
