Advice please “I would like everyone’s opinion on a good 4-season, lightweight, one-man, backpacking tent. I do most of my wood walking during the colder parts of the year, and often go alone. All right, let me have it.” 1:52:30 PM 9/23/02 one more thing “I'm a big guy to 6'2" 220 and about 24" across at the shoulders” 1:55:02 PM 9/23/02 “What's your price range??” 2:01:21 PM 9/23/02 “up to 400.00” 2:45:56 PM 9/23/02 2:50:50 PM 9/23/02 “The listed weight is for two tents, right?” 2:52:21 PM 9/23/02 “I lust after an Integral Designs Unishelter bivy sack, or the Outdoor Research Deluxe bivy sack. I use a bivy sack once the flies are gone.” 2:57:02 PM 9/23/02 “Hey, ya want 4 seasons, you're gonna carry some weight...” 2:57:24 PM 9/23/02 “The 1 man Hilleberg Akto is in your price range. I don't have that one, but I do have their other model the Nallo 2 that I use solo. It's $425 I think, but you'll have more room in it and the weight and stuff size is still good for solo use.” 3:13:57 PM 9/23/02 “Stephenson Warmlite 2R is a great solo tent. 4 season, 2-3 person, 2 lbs 13 oz, not free standing, easy to set up, dries quickly. I use it a lot (120+ days since I got it last spring) and used it on a 30 day trip for 2 and it was not a space problem. I've had condensation a few times in the Sierras, but other people on the same trip/different tents have it too.” 3:29:10 PM 9/23/02 “....but its more than $400.” 3:30:47 PM 9/23/02 “That tent that Snow Nymph uses is a great tent you should look into that! 8)” 4:44:10 PM 9/23/02 “i have a hilleberg akto and like it. i would like to have a nallo so i could fit my son in with me in the winter. will sell my akto for $290 (i will ship for free). it is in new condition. i am your exact same size. the akto will hold me and all my winter gear with plenty of space left over. i have used it in extreme cold, snow and summer. i used it on a week long trip at mount rogers last winter and a couple of other times this summer without the inner tent. it is a good tent but my needs have changed and i can't afford two. light, versatile and 100% quality. akto my email is mccracdb_1@msn.com this is available for anyone to purchase.” 4:48:08 PM 9/23/02 “That sounds like a good deal! 8)” 5:05:41 PM 9/23/02 “Tha Akto is a great tent, IMHO. I have one. I lusted after it since the first time I saw it on the net. If, after your research you decide to get one, buy the one from baume 66. 290 bones is a real good price(bought mine for 360 something, with footprint).” 5:07:55 PM 9/23/02 “Ya it is! 8)” 5:09:15 PM 9/23/02 “I've been eyeing this tent. I presently have a Eureka, and am very happy with it, but need a 4-season and this one looks great. Campmor has a cheap price on it also.” 6:06:48 PM 9/23/02 “I just got done playing with my new Eureka 3.5-4 season Timberlight xt tent in my front yard very PIMP tent!!!! 8)” 6:49:21 PM 9/23/02 “I have the Kelty Jetsream 2. Great tent if ya can find a good deal on it. Its a two man tent but I find it the perfect size for me solo.” 7:08:03 PM 9/23/02 “I read a lot of good things about that Eureka Alpenlite XT and the price is right too. I came really close to buying one in 2001 when I was looking for a new 4 season tent.” 7:23:46 PM 9/23/02 Prolly Will Never Be Replaced “I have a 3-4 season SD Omega convertible in which the mesh panels can be zipped to completely shut out the harshest weather. I've had it for about 5 years now and it isn't as nice as the newer ones but the thing is bombproof and I'll most likely have it forever.” 7:33:42 PM 9/23/02 artex “i had the 3 person version of that tent. it wasn't put out by eureka though. it was sold under redhead(outdoor world's brandname) it had eureka symbols small down at the bottom. that thing was pretty bombproof when set up tight. freestanding too. the 3person was a little heavy but i bet the 2 is a damn nice piece of tent. oh yea, great ventilation, too. that roof vent helps out more than you would think.” 10:58:48 PM 9/23/02 “Very cool ductape, thanks for the info. I have a feeling Santa will give it to me for Christmas, if I don't buy it sooner!” 11:05:37 PM 9/23/02 “Eureka are my favorite tents they are built good and don't cost alot and they look cool. 8)” 6:28:11 AM 9/24/02 “Integral Designs MK1, but over $450. I have a MK1 Lite and really like it, but the Lite model only works if you're 6' or shorter.” 7:48:59 AM 9/24/02 “Moss Outland (2001) MSR Sentinel (2002)is my double wall choice. I have just gotten a Outland. My second one. Single wall #1 choice would be a AKTO. If withstanding heavy snows might be what your'e in, I'd go with the Outland/Sentinel.” 7:13:22 PM 9/24/02
